best way to read lovecraft? in order. almost every story links to eachother. in either reoccuring characters, locations or mythos. even seemingly unrelated stories like. the transition of juan romero sets up characteristics for nyarlothep
ОтветитьThere is a new baranger
ОтветитьQuinn, you gotta take a look to Breccia's adaptation, as others have also suggested here!!
ОтветитьDunwich Horror, At the Mountains of Madness, Call of Cthulhu, the Color Out of Space, Dagon, i love them all
ОтветитьLovecraft changed the way i write. Now i want to write about hideous, insanity inducing, eldritch horrors.
ОтветитьReally icky writer!!!!
ОтветитьReally liked this video. Had no idea how to begin with love craft. Still looking for like a suggestion of which stories to start with. But this was great.
ОтветитьI would suggest that you mention the publishers of your different books. I recognize the Barnes and Noble edition, along with the Wordcloud edition, however, I would like to know who the publisher of the annotated edition is. I recently purchased a B&N edition of H. P. Lovecraft - The Complete Fiction, which is why I am watching your video. I think it would benefit me to get the annotated version, as well, though I’ll read a few stories first, to see if it’s necessary. Thanks for your video!
Edit, I meant the first B&N edition you showed, as I see you showed and mentioned the volume I have. Also, the Baranger editions do look awesome! OK, I just ordered it.
With a shot of absinth.
ОтветитьI was introduced to cosmic horror and Lovecraft through Junji Itous work🙂 It’s fascinating
ОтветитьRinse your mouth before you do a video, PLEASE!
I can hear every spit sound you make and it’s disgusting! I have severe misophonia/sensory issues!
your passion about Lovecraft - in this age when it's "cool" to hatem him - is what caused me to subscribe to your channel.
ОтветитьI like to turn the deep sea imagery on its head. Imagine that WE are intelligent deep sea creatures and the only evidence we have of surface existence are weird sounds and shapes. And out of place artifacts like plastic bags. We will never see the surface and If we are pulled out of the water by trawlers we would die due to depressurization. We have no idea what the surface dwellers are or if they exist. Or what motivation they have. They're presumably predators. That's kind of echoes the position of humanity in Lovecraft's world to me.
Ответитьcreepyyyyy love it!
ОтветитьIt's not a criticism really; I understand and appreciate anyone's passion for Lovecraft's work, and glad for it across so many generations. I discovered Lovecraft at around 10 y/o and that was almost 50 years ago now. My problem I suppose has more to do with personal evolution than anything, and while so many adaptations and referential works have kept his name alive, on the other hand disappointed that Lovecraft has essentially become the filler of a cultural void we all tend fall back on in the absence of anything truly unique to a genre, particularly these days - how I found this video in the first place, proof that Lovecraft withstands the test of time against almost any modern media enterprise; when all else fails, H.P. Lovecraft delivers. Yet increasingly it seems Lovecraft, has more and more become a consumer product whether praised or cursed, a source of radical entertainment for modern audiences bored with the vapid schlock of contemporary horror, sci-fi and fantasy to the point of being touched by 'woke' virtue signalling and even anime, that noone regards the ideological, philosophical or even real scientific relevance of his work in a world of AI, UFOs, superstrings, quantum physics and multi-dimensional mathematics, as far ahead of his time as Nikola Tesla and Carl Jung, Charles Fort or John A. Keel. So we remain blissfully oblivious to the stranger truths in Lovecraft's fiction lurking at the threshold, whispering in the darkness at the dawn of the very new dark age we are immersed in.
Ответить"His coming was foretold by the h.p lovecraft. But i suppose H.P lovecraft was a racist too"
ОтветитьIs that spelled “Barringer”?
ОтветитьCollecting book that look good on the shelf but you don’t like to read? I kinda get it
ОтветитьHis stories dont scare me. And i dont like that 95% of the stories is through Narrations. Hardly and dialog between multiple characters.
ОтветитьTHE BEST.
Ответить@Hyrr Oswald Noon Hello. 😮
Ответитьin the 70's at school the teachers scolded us if we moved the pages from the bottom of the book -
only allowed to turn page from top corners
Click bait video. You just flexing on your book collection. Nothing about how to read Lovecraft. Shame on you! :(
Ответить👀👀👀
ОтветитьI read Tolkien when i was really young but as i got older i questioned the depiction of the Easterlings. But i came to a conclusion that, in the end, great stories and JRR was just a product of his time, still.
ОтветитьIn the new it movies they made him a water demon which is kind of lame instead of what you were describing
ОтветитьI’ve noticed a lot of books not just on your channel in general being called lovecraftian horror when it doesn’t use any of His creations and they are their own independent sci-fi stories it is confusing to me
ОтветитьBefore the video starts, imma say, from top left to bottom right
ОтветитьI’m sure I’m not the only one to say this. The universe is neutral and indifferent. If not then Lovecraftian horrors cannot be allowed to exist.
Now that is scary!!
The Barenger books are a thing of beauty.
You need to check out the comic book The Nameless.
You also need to check out all of the Lovecraft comics from Avatar. Especially some of Alan Moore's books. All adult in nature and not for kids.
HP Lovecraft was favorite fiction of mine .I could not compare him with any one better. He scared me one night into leaving my light on in my bedroom for fear of demonic creatures crawling through my window while sleeping when I was quite naive about the nature of the devil's swamp creatures abilities to swallow you whole.I had not sold my property or camped about the wood under the influence of a witch ever again
ОтветитьHonestly thanks for this! I have had Call of Cthulhu for about a year and a half and had a hard time reading it at all
ОтветитьLove Lovecraft
ОтветитьI've read a lot of Lovecraft, but if I'm being honest I vastly prefer it being read to me via audio book or something similar, there's something that I can't catch while I'm reading it. But hearing it is something else
Ответитьthanks
ОтветитьThank you for the recommended editions and the reference book.
Ответитьyou pick up the book, open it, job done✔️
ОтветитьI love just watching you sharing your love for your books. Lovecraft is hard, he takes a certain dedication and mindset to read, but they haunt you and will draw you back. My favorite is Shadow over Innsmouth, the Cthulhu Mythos is deep and fascinating. I have always appreciated that he kept voluminous correspondence with his readers and fans, so many who wished to be writers and he encouraged them to astounding success (Robert Bloch being one of his 'pen pals') he was generous with this suggestions and encouraged others to add to his established pantheon of creatures, Elder Things and to support the town of Arkham and its strange university. And, too. He was a product of his time and his very odd upbringing. Yeah, he can range from cringey to absolutely offensive, but we can learn from that too. It is another type of horror. He will remain the master of the dark places and the Elder Things and depths of Dark R'leyh. Books are beautiful treasures, I own hundreds, the comfort the give me and the pride I have looking at them will always be my most lasting legacy.
ОтветитьBeing alone in the universe is scary..
Not being alone in the universe is also scary.
The world of Bloodborne inspired me to seek Lovecraft's works. Just started the Dunwich Horror.
ОтветитьHeck, I'm happy with just my Lovecraft Penguin Classics paperbacks. The editions with all the ST Joshi footnotes.
ОтветитьThe best story to begin with is Dagon, IMO. It perfectly captures so much of what makes Lovecraft's writing great in a short, succinct, powerful story.
Ответитьwell done
ОтветитьQuinn, you would be such a great teacher/professor, I would have loved my English classes so much more if the teachers explained things like you
ОтветитьThe first emotion was wonder, into fear.
ОтветитьGreat videography and book collection. I'll need to update my wishlist now!
ОтветитьI got a massive Lovecraft boner from those last two books, I didn't even know they existed! I'm absolutely getting those.
ОтветитьCold rainy day! Best time to read Lovecraft!
ОтветитьI think peter watts is the true master of modern eldritch horror especially when incorporating post singularity and transhuman elements plus hard scifi
ОтветитьThat book set looks delicious
