Personally I 100% think that hiding the extra quest behind a command line was a better move than cutting them; Making them in the first place was stupid though.
ОтветитьI think that Hellfire is a bloated crap that doesn't fit Diablo universe at all. Diablo is a perfect, relatively simple, game, and I would also be upset with Hellfire if I was the main developer.
ОтветитьI used to dupe the teddy bear and keep one in my inventory 😂
ОтветитьCreator of Blizzard Entertainment -
ОтветитьHellfire was and always will be, hot garbage.
ОтветитьDiablo 1 had most of it's cut content left in the game (thank goodness). Thanks to the Beelzebub mod, they incorporated all the cut content back into the game. I am so thankful.
ОтветитьDidn't bits of Hellfire turn up in Diablo 2?
Ответитьmore like Diablo: Fever Dream
ОтветитьPersonally, as someone pretty aware of both sides of the conflict in regards to Hellfire, it really just feels like a case of Blizzard North being a Caillou and not wanting to share their toys with the kid their mom brought over.
Like I won't lie, I feel for them having their vision tampered with and needing to work with the Sierra team, but it isn't like they could have just let Hellfire's team have free reign while discounting it for the sequel, I mean Half-Life did that with Opposing Force and Sonic 2 was developed alongside Sonic CD as a follow-up to 1...
It isn't like two concurrent follow-ups to the same property hadn't ever happened before at that point, it reallt just feels like the North guys just hated what the Hellfire guys did because they weren't the ones behind the wheel, especially given how many things in 2 feel like retreads or outright do-overs of concepts explored in Hellfire.
it was a shit expansion
ОтветитьI loved Hellfire. David Brevik's argument against it is based on a teddybear? Really? He looks so unstable. I think he's just pissed it wasn't made by his team.
ОтветитьHellfire added the cornerstone of the world. Anyone who likes stash tabs need to stfu and appreciate the good that came out of this meme xpac.
ОтветитьHellfire was quirky but I rather enjoyed it. I can totally understand their frustration though.
Best way I personally could identify with it would be as a songwriter: If I had written most of a song, had notes and a vision for what I would be if I finished it but had moved on to another project, and then someone gets contracted to finish my creation for a quick buck and they completely bastardize it in a direction it never should have gone. Any creators could understand the frustration, like its a violation of human decency.
hellfire was cool. of course Brevik has his vision, but ppl in sierra had a good vision too
ОтветитьIf I were a warrior I would gladly retrieve a teddy bear just to make a little girl happy.
Ответитьhellfire isnt cannon
ОтветитьBlizzard being up their own ass??? Guess things haven’t changed as much as we thought
ОтветитьThe Condor/Blizzard North team didn't like Hellfire, didn't approve of Hellfire. Fair enough.
But let's be fair both ways. A lot of their nitpicky complaints seemed like bitchy sour grapes to me.
Criticize Hellfire's dungeons ... which were just new skins overlaid onto Diablo's dungeons.
Criticize Hellfire's music ... which had a couple good tracks, a couple bad tracks, just like Diablo's music.
Criticize Hellfire's Monk ... which Blizzard unashamedly copied wholesale on their next Diablo release.
Criticize Hellfire's Cow Quest ... which is a lot less ridiculous than Diablo II's Secret Cow Level.
Criticize Hellfire's Teddy Bear Quest ... which breaks the dark Gothic/Lovecraft/Horror immersion a lot less than the teddybears and unicorns and rainbows in Whimsyshire.
In short, half of their complaints were based on their own work while the other half of their complaints were ideas that they stole and implemented into their later Diablo titles as soon as they could work them in.
Dude looks like an older "Notice me, Senpai" guy.
ОтветитьI bet it was better than D3
ОтветитьWhat i really loved was the Japanese Diablo 2 Clone by sierra
ОтветитьI love how pissed he was about a "teddy bear quest" but Diablo 3 had freakin' rainbows.
ОтветитьI found the whole thing super childish. The Sierra guys where doing their job, and was not at fault. Due to the limitations set by the Diablo guys, they went a new route and gave a new experience. If the Diablo guys had worked with them instead of against them they could have made something amazing.
ОтветитьI personally think that the theo quest is extremely well scripted. The girl excactly behaves (in) and describes this situation like a real one would. She does not feel a difference between a human friend or a toy friend. The twist might be funny (for some maybe infuriating) when you find theo, but at the same time it is so relatable.
ОтветитьI actually adore that they tried to go for lovecraftian horror. If better devs, or just blizz north themselves, tackled it, it couldve been amazing I think.
ОтветитьI just want to know why BLizzard hates the Amazon Class , they never made a Amazon class for diablo 3 and 4
ОтветитьHellfire Expansion was instead created by Relic Entertainment who have had nothing to do with Blizzard North at the time.
ОтветитьHonestly i like Hellfire, yes it seemed a bit odd but it was neat to have at the time, and with he monk it felt like a real D&D party.
ОтветитьFunny hearing some of the comments about their vision and direction in a post-Diablo Immortal world.
ОтветитьYeee, hearing a word wierdo is oddaf in typa game
Ответитьi actually got my hands on it physically still own it box is gone i think tho
Ответитьthe fact that Bragg is still salty about this two decades later really shows how petty and pathetic he really is lmfao gotta love Sierra for just slapping him in the face when he tried to cut content
ОтветитьNot really sure (only knowledge is from this video) but, as a WoW player, I wonder if those "alien bug things" were the inspiration for the Silithid in WoW and possibly if the same designer(s) from Sierra worked on WoW development given the more cartoony/goofy vibe of those cut quests.
ОтветитьAs I understand it, they hated the fact that they were expected to do an expansion and were given such a tiny window to complete it by. The. Great three had said that that was impossible and so it was outsourced to another team, which was Sierra Games. This was done because they were working on diablo 2 and couldn't give up the resources.
ОтветитьSierra, The first troll company
ОтветитьI didn't like Hellfire either BUT making the items glitter was a HUGE quality of life improvement.
It's impossible to overstate how difficult it was to spot items in the dark.
As a kid I liked the expansion. Anything to play more Diablo.
ОтветитьHellfire was bit of a fun expansion to D1, though I never played the secret quests. Although, I cannot describe the pain of playing it with a Monk or Warrior chasing endless FAST enemies around ☠️
Ответитьif they took issue with it maybe they shouldnt have abandoned diablo 1 in the first place i thought blizzard didnt give a shit about diablo 1
ОтветитьBlizzard approves of the hellfire expansion tho….. that’s why it comes with Diablo 1 game download when you buy it now online. Also idk if it was brought up but Diablo 1 online is still up and running if anyone wants to merk some demons with me.
ОтветитьI personally enjoyed Hellfire, yes it always felt different to the base game and some of the stuff added wasn't great. However it also added a lot of QoL and some good content as well, so overall I much prefer playing with Hellfire to playing without it.
ОтветитьWhile some aspects of Hellfire were great, overall I also like to pretend it never existed. I also like to pretend all the Diablo 2 hacks to make it "better" didn't exist either (I never played them beyond just looking how they looked). Why we still to this day never got a Bard class though is beyond me. The original team doesn't design Diablo anymore so I do wonder.
ОтветитьI think it's hillarious how non-randomly generated levels were ostracized 25 years ago but in Diablo 3 the devs just didn't care. Same thing happening in d4. The series' most unique feature is gone forever.
ОтветитьIts a fun curiosity but really, i prefere the vanilla diablo.
ОтветитьHellfire was good for more or less 3 reasons : all difficulties are playable in singleplayer, the monk class, and the jog feature. But thank god we have Diablo 1 HD mod now.
ОтветитьInteresting video, thank you.
ОтветитьOh gods, I'm glad I never played Hellfire!
ОтветитьBlizzard should do, nay MUST do a proper remastered of the first game as they did with diablo 2, and put in everything they imagined originally with the expansion, i would buy the shit out of that game!
ОтветитьLets be honest, if Hellfire wasent made. The expansion for diablo 2, wouldnt even be a thing. They would make diablo 3 with a diablo 2 graphic.
Ответить
