Jackie Gleason was fantastic in anything he did! One of his best "forgotten" films is "Soldier in the Rain" with Steve McQueen. A truly funny and heart-warming picture

I was about 6 years old and riding my "banana seat" bike around the block (1975) in my safe neighborhood in Bismarck, North Dakota, when I paused at Mr. Wachter's home as he was outside watering his lawn. I said, "Mr. Wachter, you remind me of a movie star" he said, well , thank you darlin, who is that? I said Jackie Gleason. He said, oh, thanks, I needed that! I said, you're welcome and happily went on my way! Such an innocent compliment, that made my Mom and Dad laugh when I told them what I said to Mr. Wachter. Some childhood moments are funny years later. Rest in Peace Jackie Gleason and Mr. Wachter.

Lucky if he didn't annoy Carson by talking to Ed McMahon more than to Johnny! Not that it would matter to the Great One....

Him casually smoking during the show, but I guess that was normal in the 80s

"The Business" was smaller back in the day of Jackie. With all the name dropping you get the real impression that everyone knew everyone else. Such interviews with Jerry Lewis is another example, if not an extreme case. I've got to look up "Toots" Shore.

I dunno, I think that picture show would be pretty funny.

Half the fun was listening to Ed McMahons' contagious laugh. Ed was a great side kick to Mr. Carson. I fell in love with the tonight show when i was a teenager in the 80's. The Honeymooners was one of my favorites, too. Mr. Gleason was just incredible. Today, the tonight show is trash. No class.

Why did Johnny say he was on “You’re in the picture” with Jackie? Because he wasn’t in it

He is still my favorite performer of all time. All of the variety show material and even the later 80's bad sequels. Gleason was boisterous, loud, and off the rails at times. He was also a genuinely humble and receptive person underneath his demons. Love The Great One.

That was great! Love Gleason and never saw it! They don't make comedians like Gleason anymore! Class act!

I still watch the honeymooners and laugh just as hard as I always have. I'm only 67 but those great shows and good comedy never get old with me. Gleason and Carney, Joyce Randolph and Audrey Meadows were classic! 😅

Sadly , The Great One died 18 months later :(

I know I'm getting old because this really hits with me. That and I know we'll never get that back!

Gleason smoked FOUR PACKS A DAY. Where did he find time to do anything else?

Jackie Gleason was truly a great actor as well as comedian. His acting with Paul Newman in "Minnesota Fats" was incredible.

It's hardly shocking Jackie was turned off by modern tv even back in those days of the 1980s. He was from a different era where it was always expected to be done one way, one way only. Yes he did movies, but his niche in TV was in it's infancy. Who knows had Jackie lived another 15-20 years if he would of adjusted to all the changes in the entertainment industry. Jackie died less than 2 years after this aired, and Johnny would retire 5 years after Gleasons passing marking the end of a wonderful era never to be duplicated again.

I wonder why they didnt care to much for each other you can tell the chemistry just isnt there.
