I’d sooner take my 1993 EB Fairmont Ghia on any road trip. Live life on the edge & go airbag less.
ОтветитьI wonder if the Ford (Australia/Oceania) Fairlane NC is built with the same parts, and upon the same type of body frame, as the Ford (USA/Canada/Mexico) Crown Victoria and Lincoln Town Car of the same time? The front of this car looks a lot like the front of the latter car.
ОтветитьThat Fairlane has an LTD front end put on it.
ОтветитьI presume that has coil springs at the rear. The wagons had leaf springs.
ОтветитьI dont think any modern car is as good at eating up the miles on inland Australian roads. I remember driving around in an LTD in central Queensland. The comfort has never been repeated.
ОтветитьHi Sean, there is still a lot of love for Australian made Ford cars. Last Sunday, Sydney Motorsport Park held its All Ford Car day and the turn out was massive. It is sad that we don’t have a local car industry and hope that we could start a campaign to rectify the situation. With the happenings of the last 3 years there is certainly a case for having a manufacturing industry in the Southern Hemisphere.
ОтветитьWhat size were the wire wheels mate 15x7? Were you running 205/65 tyres?
ОтветитьWow. I’m a ‘72 model and I’ve owned an XB- first car, XF, EA, EF, FG, and FGX (Also not admitting my ownership of a VL, VT, VX, WH, WL among many others) - that was such an awesome video. So well done thank you!
ОтветитьAs an apprentice at a Ford dealership. I had many brand new ones of these sideways.
ОтветитьThe Statesman/ Caprice look so much better
ОтветитьAll I drive are Crown Victoria's. Love them!
ОтветитьI was told by a relative working for Ford back then that there was a great deal of influence from the Aston Martin Lagonda as even before the buyout they shared, or used, Astons designers and as you can see the similarities are obvious.
ОтветитьI'm picking one up tomorrow its an 93 eb2 fairlane 302 Windsor
Ответитьbecause queenland is a state of cheaparses...thats why we have shit roads....
Ответитьpity the thing was so gutless, i had one.....
Ответитьcaprieces were driven by decetivies in the states, all the rest drove crown victorias....
ОтветитьAs a magazine article stated in 1993 - "Fairlane and LTD easily shrug off the cheaper Falcon counterparts, but the Statesman/Caprice of this era will always be a Commodore with extra glass"
ОтветитьI just bought a 2003 Toyota Avalon with 80k on the clock and It's amazing. 145kw front driven 3.0L it's not the safest car out (or fastest) there but so comfy with some luxuries.
ОтветитьI’m 21 this year and I absolutely love old cars and just stuff from those generations in general. I just feel like everything that happened pre 2010 just felt better than what’s happened since. I dunno, I’d call it nostalgia but I was less than five years old when all of the things I love the most about Australia happened. I just think we’ve settled into mediocrity I guess. Not as much striving for better experiences, etc.
ОтветитьI love that model Fairlane, and yes you're correct regarding safety items in newer cars but I find the newer cars are making the driving experience less real and artificial, and requiring less human input into the driving experience, which means one thing, us humans are getting dumber, less focused, lazy or have other things on our mind (which is dangerous)and relying more on AI. A vehicle without reversing cameras, lane assist and blind spot indication, self parking and remote key start is my vehicle of choice. I've got this thing called a neck and I have the ability to turn my head past 90° in all directions. I'll drive my AU Fortura wagon anytime. It has all the mod cons I need........at the moment.
ОтветитьNot even close to a Crown Vic
ОтветитьI managed to blow up one of those straight 6 engines in one of my old mans fairlanes street racing it back in the day🤣
My 77 monaro is powerful and loud but i love it and would never sell it because it was one of the only things ( other then my 3 dogs ) that brought me joy, gave me hope and purpose during 4 years of dark hell that i went through due to a complete break down after the sudden loss of my old man and experiencing DV and abuse at the hands of my gf. Only time i really left the house during those years was to go cruising in my 77monaro with my 3 dogs.
Whatever happened to the word custom now it’s bespoke lol
ОтветитьWhat a great video. Just discovered your channel in the last couple of days. Your car is awesome
Ответитьthat was a smooth transition from postcard to video
ОтветитьBrilliant narration…….kudos
ОтветитьHere’s what’s cool about the Ford Taurus;
Robocop drove it.
Here’s why the Australian Falcon that looked almost exactly like the Taurus is better and why the Taurus suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucked;
It was front wheel drive.
(What we called in Australia at the time a “front wheel drive pus box”)🤓
Lovely cars terrible motors...
ОтветитьI had one for 16k in 2004. Done 58,000kms when i got it and 150k when i sold it for 2800...
ОтветитьI bought a 1994 NC in 2013 with 60,000km on it for $2500aud. Best car I ever had regret selling it every time I see one
ОтветитьMy dad had a 1991 ford nc fairlane ghia with the sunroof and the v8 had mustang v8 parts on the engine
ОтветитьIt looks like a Falcon and a Mercedes had a baby
ОтветитьTransmission power or economy mode. In power mode shift is standard. Economy mode gets into 4th at 50kmh upshifts earlier to give little better economy.
ОтветитьI bought a mint white NC Ghia V8 for $16500 in 1999. It was a nice car but I do not miss it.
ОтветитьNice run down. Don’t stress about air bag thing. We were fine without them for a long time
ОтветитьThe velour material in the ghia's in the EA-ED era was the best material ford ever used in an interior... I remember writing my name in it and then wiping it the other way as a kid... excellent stuff.
ОтветитьI wish you had reviewed a DC2 LTD with pepper pot wheels... great video on one of my favourite cars though
ОтветитьBeing a Land Rover man hey just run in my blood got my first when I was 17 I'm now cracking on close to my 50s and I still wouldn't change a thing. I've owned a heap of other makes but it's still the green oval for me
ОтветитьGrew up in Australia loving these cars. I am in the US and I have a 1997 Thunderbird LX with the 4.6. Despite the fact that it’s a 2 door, I would argue it is the closest thing to a Fairlane in the US at the time. It’s on the MN12 platform, and has IRS. The Fairlane didn’t have that, but the ride characteristics are similar. Soft grey velour seats. Just floats, soaks up the bumps. Mine only has 205hp (151kw). I wish it had the 260hp that came out later. Could always put a Coyote or a Godzilla in it. There’s some charm about keeping it original though, and it’s certainly cheaper not to do anything to it.
ОтветитьWhat? No analogue mobile phone cradle mounted next to the console?
ОтветитьIt looks in very good condition.
ОтветитьMy mother has two of these NC fairlanes left to her from dad. My first memory was a ZC, then a ZJ and then the NCs. He bought the the second NC for very little and it sits at their second property. Every year from the earliest memories we were packed into the current fairlane and driven from Gippsland to as far as the sunshine coast for road trip holidays. One trip out near Broken Hill NSW dad said we better try out the new ZJ and took it up to 160 km/h before pop said that's enough. They bought a territory in the early 2000's and never did up date the NC's. I did all my learner driving in the ZJ and went on to own several XD's. If the chance comes up one day to get one of dads NC's I will as you said nostalgia has a lot to do with choice. My first paddock bomb was a Hillman Imp, now I have 4 of them. Good video
ОтветитьThe VN Commie looks better
ОтветитьBa/bf fairlane is the Australian crown victoria.
ОтветитьMy dad had a 1990 EA Fairmont Ghia that was 3 years old when we bought it. This was the car that took us to QLD, NSW, all over Victoria as well.
I have very fond memories as a 1990s teen, and also learning to drive in it, as well as sharing the driving on long trips. The Fairlane, Fairlane Ghia and LTD shares the same doors, dashboard and seats. I loved it for its handling, smoothness of the 3.9i 6 cylinder. Did get on those long trips and 9L/100 even.
Sadly it was written off in 2008 when a reckless Tarago driver pulled out across 2 lanes, and the rest is history. We also had a almost new Ford Falcon EL with 2K kms, which served us till 2015! The memories are deep with Fords, as my dad worked at the Broadmeadows plant when he retired in 2008. I will always miss these great, value for money Aussie built cars.
I hope we see something Aussie made in the future again, maybe electric cars.
Cool video bud... I'm doing up a EF Fairmont... Just wanted to say that bikers were leather so. If they come. Off there bike the leather takes the injurie of road rash.... It's. Not ment to be a dress up thing it's for safer crashing... Ha ha ha....
Ответить
