This is your first review ever I have to disagree with. It boggles my mind why no one seems to care about the lackluster gameplay and horrible, heavy scripted mission-structure.
Over half of your mission time will be spent following a dude. Many AAA games received heavy criticism for that over the last decade and yet no one seems to mind it here.

Perfect game my only advice is they should’ve done co-op like the division or ghost recon

The user interface is one of the worst in any game and sometimes your movement is slowed down randomly to a turtle's crawl speed. Characters are fairly bland and the story is average to non existent. Visuals are great. First RDR is better for me.

I know I'm late for this, but the black scout jacket bugs out in cut scenes and some free roam moments(on Xbox One), so if you look to make an outfit with it, be warned.

I'm not here to bash this game or something but Rockstar's formula is old and the controls feel clunky. Itt gives your the impression that you're trying to move an obese person from A to B and not like a bad ass cowboy.
The narrative starts slow but is strong which isn't surprising as it's from Rockstar. The details are just a gimmick to me, sure they are impressive but the "gameplay" otherwise doesn't bring anything new to the table. It's a good game but not a *masterpiece*. 6/10 imo

“Masterpiece”, the most overused adjective in video games. As pointed out here, the game has a lot of issues. Its not the clunkiness so much as there almost seems to be a latency when controlling Arthur at times. Camp life and doing chores were miserable because of this, which is a shame.

I loved this game. The feeling of trotting around the world with subtle music playing and trees rustling in the wind, gunshots off in the distance, as you come across a camp site you decide to investigate, only to be cursed at and threatened. SO MUCH is done so well here, its just that the gameplay and missions never live up to the standards that Rockstar set in other departments. It is a gorgeous open world, and 6pm looks like 6pm. I just got worn down by the painfully restrictive and linear mission designs, that afford zero improvisation or flexibility to the player. They force you a certain direction, holding your hand from A to B. Try to flank some enemies and you risk getting a FAIL for leaving the mission area. Rockstar needs to look at this because it was a serious disappointment that I had to do every mission the way that Rockstar wanted me to do it.

I still love it. I still go back and spend some time hanging out because its very relaxing. There are plenty of things to improve upon though, and calling it a “masterpiece” is silly. The game really dragged in the last two chapters for me. “Hey, wadya know? Another shootout!” I always thought Rockstar would improve looting and skinning animations in a patch, but no such luck. In todays world, OL play is also part of the game, and the OL is just flat out boring and full of people headshotting one another to no end. The OL is a huge disappointment.

No GTA VI in sight, as GTAV OL is still raking hundreds of millions of dollars per quarter. Rockstar usually drops a trailer 18-24 months before game release, and we haven’t seen a thing. GTAV is now getting pretty old, but we’re still 3-4 years out at a minimum. They won’t do story DLC for RDR2, despite what people ask for, because OL play is their bread and butter.

Absolutely love RDR2, but Masterpiece? Naw.

I have one major issue with this title.and it has taken my ability to play through a second or third time. Story missions changing my equipment. I feel like rockstar couldn't trust me to be able to dress and equip myself for the task at hand. I can't change my loadout without horse but rockstar can. This needs to be patched right out. I doubt that the story is going to see any attention because at the time in typing this the "live service" is active

What would be cool is if they ever decide to make a Red Dead Redemption 3 is if they went back farther like go back to win Arthur was a younger man like in his thirties even his twenties.

Or if they skip ahead in time and just do a game with Jack Marston maybe he eventually straightens out and has a family of his own maybe he ends up following his dad's path

Btw. that 'Mafia 3 effect' is something else here. I encountered it on my PC version, and I run it around the lowest possible settings. Thing is you can fiddle with it on PC, and fix it.
In Mafia, the sudden lighting changes are simply because the engine changes zone related weather system too quickly. Here it only happens during sunset and sunrise. It's poor resolution of far shadows. It computes lighting of the scene based on how much the sun (and possibly nearby sky) is blocked by the hills. And since it's done with low resolution (on lowest settings on PC, and I presume, on consoles), it leads to sudden changes in intensity and especially color of the overall scene lighting. Bumping 'far shadows' to medium on PC makes it mostly disappear, and it's easy to test on PC, as you can do it just when it's happening.

After finishing red dead redemption 2, I feel like I just finished an amazing lego set. Let me explain. Playing through the games story is like building the lego set. We see our protagonists, john and Arthur slowly build up, like how the set does. But once we finish the story, we are left with a fully developed john marston, like the fully finished set. We now have this big lego set to play around in, representing the open world of rdr2. But, as we all know, building the set is the most fun part, but you dont see that when you're actually doing it. This is because you're too busy trying to rush the story in order to unlock st Austin. For lego, this is where you put your lego set on the shelf, never to be used again. sure, you'll still play it from time to time, but it wont have the same charm it once had. Furthermore, this outstanding set is so good, you cant imagine a better set/game. This is the problem with rdr2. It makes even the highest tier games look weird.

I'm late to the party here but I just finished this on PC, after 250 hours of doing as much as I possibly could, and this is by far one of the greatest games ever made in my opinion. I agree with Karak it's not without it's caveats hes right when he says Arthur controls kinda like shit but you do get used to it and meandering around like an idiot trying to find things to pick up, etc, but that pales in comparison to the story being told and just how awesome and fun the game is to play. I highly recommend it, and if I were grading it on a scale for what is offered here and the world it takes place in compared to what other games offer this is easily a 10 out of 10 for me. Not on a scale I would give it a 9 out of 10 because there are problems. There is just SO MUCH HERE to love, the characters, the stories, the missions that are unique and fun to do, the horses, the beautiful environment, the towns, everything is so awesome. And like the reviewer said it has its faults but the positives way outweigh them and it is a solid buy even if I paid 20 extra dollars for this it was worth it considering out much time I got out of it before completing it. I can't speak for the console versions, and I know PC players have had their issues which I hardly had except for a crash here and there, but for me this game was amazing I was really sad when the final credits rolled and I can't say that about very many games. It was like I no longer knew what to do with myself when a game this awesome ended.
