The last and final.......?
ОтветитьAberfeldy 12 is one of my favorite budget friendly single malt scotch whiskies. Very smooth and it’s right around $42-$60
ОтветитьF'ing Redbreast! I knew it was coming and the 15 is amazing!
ОтветитьRed Breast 27 at 450 bucks!? Its 700 dollars now
ОтветитьTeeling is great stuff, but I like the Redbreast offerings.
ОтветитьWhat’s the single grain they use?
Ответитьfinally on the Irish train. got Resbreast 12 at rhe DFS in Niagara falls ontario. they are having supply chain issues, so they didn't have what i wanted. oh, but what a consolation prize!! delicious.
ОтветитьMy favorite is Writers tears. You HAVE to try it. I believe it is only been distributed to the US for only a few years now. I had it in Ireland and has been my favorite for its price point ever since.
ОтветитьWriters Tears single pot. Had enough of all of those to sink a battle ship. Writers Tears.
ОтветитьHe's hammered lol
ОтветитьKurt need your help. I am new to whiskey and love your channel. I do like bourbon and have figured that out. However I just don’t like Scotch and I think it’s the malted barley flavor but not certain. I just tried Kilbrin Irish from Total wines and love the mild grain notes and fresh crisp fruit but the fruit is weak. Can you try this whiskey and then tell me one that is similar on the grain and ABV but has more fruit or sweet flavor?
ОтветитьI enjoyed your show on Scotches! When I traveled the world I always drank Scotch as most Europeans that were my clients and friends were scotch drinkers. Personally, I'd stay with the Glenmorangie as I prefer the vanilla note over the pear note the Glenfiddich offers but these whiskeys are perfectly interchangeable. Now, since I moved to Texas for retirement I moved over to Bourbons and have sampled just about all that have been on your show as a result of your recommendations. I also bought my first Cowboy Hat and Boots. Yet they still call me Cali-Dave so that reminds them I am halve Texan. Trent I 'm proud of you for enduring!
ОтветитьDid we skip a category? What are your favorite grain Irish whiskeys?!
ОтветитьMy go to Irish Whisky is 16 YO Bushmills which I was fortunate to try at the distillery. It’s not cheap, so I don’t bring it out except for special occasions. It’s worth every penny!
ОтветитьAny thing by Bushmills, especially Black Bush and the 400th Anniversary bottling will be smooth, sweet, and reasonable…. Easy to find…☘️☘️
ОтветитьJust bought a bottle of Powers Three Swallows because of this video.....looking forward to having a dram this wonderful St. Patrick's Day!
Slainte!
Great line up!!!
ОтветитьMy favorite and smooth high proof is Old Forester 100.
ОтветитьHave to aggree on the Powers Three Swallow. I think it is better than the +$20 Powers John's Lane. And it does not get much better than Redbreast.
ОтветитьMy favorite red breast is the one that starts with L.
A really good budget one is Slane
Only had Jamison and Green Spot so far....Picked up a bottle of Red Breast 12, but have not opened it yet. Recently been drinking Jamison Black Barrell when I need a break from bourbon/Rye.
ОтветитьI'm retired from an Irish company (huge here in the states). Irish whiskeys have a special place in my liquor cabinet. Among my Irish colleagues, the decision was: Bushmills? or Redbreast? And if you chose Bushmills, you were fired.
My favorites - Redbreast 15 and Green Spot. I hope to sample the Redbreast 27, based on your reviews of it - we'll see. My Irish colleagues were partial to the Redbreast 12 over the 15 ... but it's not even close for me - the 15! It's the smoothest single pot still whiskey I've yet tried, with all of the notes you described.
Green Spot? Of my three go-to every day drinkers - this one is king. So clean, yet not sacrificing flavor. The beautiful light golden color reminds me that it's not gonna be a bourbon sugar bomb. But it's close to my heart as one evening my wife and I were chatting with the bartender in our hotel bar in Dublin regarding the best Irish Whiskey to give to an Irishman for a good deed he'd done for me. After a lot of chatting about a variety of whiskeys, the guy across the bar spoke up and said "Green Spot ... get him Green Spot, any Irishman would appreciate that" and the bartender quickly added his support. So that was that. After the guy across the bar had left, the bartender asked me if I knew who had recommended the Green Spot. "No. Should I have?" That was Dave ... you know ... The Edge. I hadn't recognized him - this was in 2008, and I was used to the long-haired pony-tailed Edge. The guy across from me was clean cut, shorthaired Edge. Anyhoo ... that was my introduction to Green Spot. The guy I gave it to? Didn't like it ... Probably a Bushmill's guy.
At first i thought nothing beats Scotch boy was i wrong i tried Irish whiskey it was much smoother and had a good nose on it.
ОтветитьOne of my favorites is Tulamore Dew cider cask. Absolutely delicious for about $30 but I got it at the steal price of $16.
ОтветитьIsn’t the Bushmills 21 too expensive for having only 40% ABV? I thought that with the 16.
ОтветитьYellow Spot is very good too !
ОтветитьInteresting that the Bushmills' label says it's made in County Antrim IRELAND. However, County Antrim is in Northern Ireland. Perhaps the owners haven't been told.
ОтветитьHi. I'm going back and catching up on some older videos since before I subscribed to the channel. I'm loving Irish Whiskey. I was glad to see the Redbreast on your list! I'm a huge fan of the RB 12 and RB 12 CS especially. Maybe next time instead of restocking the 12 CS I'll grab a 15 year. About the same price. The Powers Three Swallows sounds intriguing. I'll have to grab a bottle when I see one. Oh, Green Spot finished in Chateau Montelena Zinfandel casks is also another favorite of mine. Cheers!
ОтветитьI love Powers! Such a solid bottle! I'm curious, what is the music being played underneath the main video?
ОтветитьI love the Red Breast but my " go to " is the Bushmills 21 -- liquid heaven
ОтветитьSuggest Greenore single grain
ОтветитьHow can you leave off Middleton Very Rare (any version)?
ОтветитьAhh, Irish Whiskey, now you're in my lane. I like that you have gold label on here. In Ireland, every bar I was in had Powers. Nothing special, just a staple like Bushmills, but always scratches that itch. I love Redbreast as well. I always use the 12yr in some of my specialty cocktails. If you like the single pot still route and ever come cross Green Spot or Yellow Spot, give those a try for sure. I'm really surprised you didn't have Tullamore Dew on here. I would put it up against Powers, Jameson and Bushmills all day. It really doesn't get the credit it deserves.
I know you said there isn't a large selection in your area, but if you have a good relationship with your liquor store, they can order you anything that their distributers offer (probably Southern Glazer's or Republic). That being said, if you want some of the best Ireland has to offer, Midleton is a powerhouse. Also I saw the recent Rye episode, and heard Trent talk about how much he loved that "dusty" note. I have the cream of the crop for you. I was in Seattle about 8 years ago at the Canon Whiskey and Bitters Emporium (Largest Whiskey Selection in the US) and I tried the best Irish Whiskey I have ever had. Talk about "Dusty"! It was like an old rickety wooden room with sheets over the furniture! It was the 17yr by Knappogue Castle. HARD to find, but hands down a grail bottle for any Irish Whiskey fan.
A little tidbit: Most Irish Whiskey is unmalted and malted barley because the British taxed malted barley, so by using unmalted, they dodged the tax (crafty bastards) so technically, your single malt Irish is more along the lines of the original Irish Whiskeys. But you gotta give those Irish Monks credit because If it weren't for them, you wouldn't have Poitin, without Poitin, you wouldn't have Moonshine, without Moonshine, you wouldn't have Bourbon. Sorry for the novel, but I love Irish Whiskey. If you've read this far, I appreciate it, haha. 🥃
Just picked up a bottle of Jameson black barrell....what ate your thoughts?
Also are you a fan of the "spots" Green Spot, Yellow Spot, etc. Which Jameson is your favorite?
They're all nice, would like to see Powers 12 in there !
ОтветитьI am so glad you didn't mention Jameson's. So many customers equate that Brand with their heritage
Only Irish Americans were like that. I had a handful of real Irishmen, and as usual they wouldn't touch the stuff🤣 American marketing is a machine and it really knows what buttons to push and keep pushing to make those sales volume quotas. Jameson and Johnnie walker were good for mouthwash, believe it or not😁
Redbreast 12 is always a must
ОтветитьYou never know how your tastes will line up with an expert... but knowing that Redbreast 15 is your favorite tells me everything I need to know - I can trust everything you say! :D Thank you for pointing out some others. We recently had a Bushmills 16 and it was also very nice.
ОтветитьBush mills Black is really hard to beat and it’s priced nice for the experience.
ОтветитьI spend some serious money on a bottle of whisky, but I don’t agree that you should not expect much for a $25 blended whisky. There are many whisky’s at or below which are VERY good
ОтветитьHave you ever tried Kilbrin 10 yr irish whiskey Ororoso cast? If so was wondering your thoughts. My fav overall irish whiskey is green spot this kilbrin 10 yr is my 2nd overall favorite. Love your show
ОтветитьLove the review of Irish Whiskey. Actually have a couple of them and will be looking to pick up a few others.
ОтветитьMy all time favorite Irish whiskey is Midelton Very Rare. Not inexpensive at around $300 it is amazing and worth every penny. I can also recommend Yellow Spot and Green Spot with some serious “brûlée” flavors. Like you I also enjoy Red Breast. A bit surprised you didn’t pick Jamison’s 18 year old it is really very good and not terribly expensive. One more to consider Tullamore Dew 14 year old - super smooth and flavorful. Slainte
ОтветитьI'm not a big whiskey fan and have very little experience with Irish whiskeys. That being said, I was very impressed with Slane for the price. Should also be noted that I hate Jameson.
ОтветитьThree Swallow is usually on sale in Ireland for €30. It's my first choice daily sipper perfect in a hot toddy when you're under the weather
ОтветитьFor Irish Single Grain, take a look at Teeling 13 year Single Grain, JJ Corry The Hanson, or WD O’Connell 10 year Irish Single Grain. All 3 are excellent examples of Single Grain Irish Whiskey
There’s also a few bottles of Whiskey that are just considered “Irish Whiskey”, they don’t fall into a specific category due to their mashbill. Kilbeggan Small Batch Rye, Method and Madness Oats & Malt are both examples.
My favourite Irish whiskey is the Tullamore Dew Cider Cask: it's smooth, fruity, just very tasty and it only costs about 20,- (for 0.5l)
ОтветитьIve bought a few bottles of Paddy’s lately and each of them had a different taste. The first bottle I had was definitely much smoother than the second. Guess this can be common?
ОтветитьI just found that Powers Good label and man it’s is so smooth. Great recommendation. I’ve been a bourbon guy for years and want to tap into something different so I figured I’d try some Irish whiskey instead. Glad I did! Thanks!
ОтветитьHave you tried Bardstown Bourbon Distillery Collection? Right now it's a 21-year Irish Whiskey blend. I know you're a huge fan of BB. You can only purchase this from the gift shop though.
