The thing is England need to defend as a team. Of course the back 4 is the last line of defence but if it’s being run at left, right and centre then of course it’s going to leak goals.

Foden is not a left winger, no way better than Eze or Gordon, so just doesn’t cut for me. Best no.10 by far is Cole Palmer.

Just play a 4-2-3-1 Bellingham and Rice as the 2. Foden with Saka and Eze wide Kane up front. Why does Bellingham have to play 10 when we have Foden. Bellingham can still go forward so long as Rice stay deep as cover.

England center back might be their biggest weakness. John Stones did not even play as CB in ManC in the last two seasons, when he did play as CB for ManC he was usually exposed.

I love football and I desperately want to see us do well in this tournament. However, England will sit back play defensive and show no real flair on the pitch. The defense is shaky at best and the overloaded midfield glory boys will forget they are in a team and fluff it. Foden rarely plays on the left for City. They have Doku or Grealish there. Foden plays centrally or on the right for City.

The best midfield imo is bellingham rice and trent.

Gotta get them scoring. Both Bellingham and Foden, who score a goal every 2-3 games for their club, score about a goal every 9-10 games for England. That comparison makes for a shocking stat. Only Saka and Kane have good goal ratios for England.

I don’t get why England don’t try a diamond in the midfield. Have rice as the 6, Bellingham and Trent 2 cm and foden as the 10. Play Watkins alongside Kane up top Watkins likes to drift out wide and foden playing a free role lets him drift out wide. Big call to leave out saka yes but England have to think of what’s gonna work best rather than trying to just keep every1 happy.

Poor commentary. Feeding into the media's opinion on Trent. Trent has been playing at the top level for years. His performance against Barcelona in the semi-finals of the Champions League is one of the best performances from a right back in the last few years. Should be Wharton alongside Rice and Bellingham. If Foden plays it should only be on the right so he can cut onto his left to shoot or make intricate passes. Or he should play as the 10. He definitely shouldn't be playing on the left where he can't cut inside onto his left foot as he isn't quick enough to be going on the outside and whipping balls into the box. Gordon or Eze should be playing on the left as otherwise the balance of the team isn't right.

Honestly, the amount of shit Trent gets when he has defended really well against some of the best players in the world. It's honestly embarassing at this point.

Trent has rarely/never played competitively in midfield. Throwing him in there for the tournament is a sexy but unnecessary risk.

It's so interesting to see all these pundits talking about a right back defender who play at the highest club level and have won everything.
He is a defender but now he cannot even play in the midfield with an entire backline behind him because he cannot defend ?
So even midfield players defend much better than him now.
I have one question to these pundits, what have England ever won ?
And since that is is nothing, why not change it up and go with our best players to get a 2-0 lead or something and then take off all the guys that cannot defend after that !!
