For anyone who's planning on putting it in a USB/thunderbolt enclosure - Do NOT.
It's a DRAM-less SSD which uses HMB (host memory buffer) meaning it's using your PC's system memory for write cache and the lookup table. HMB does not work over USB and thunderbolt unless it has direct PCIe lanes assigned to the drive, and even then that's not a guarantee. Without HMB its nominal "1000TBW" (1TB model) endurance will get closer to half of that, or even worse.
Mine runs 50 °C idle, and 59 °C under full load. Is that ok?
Ответить"samsung is better for a terabyte video project" a 1tb?!! damm xd
Ответить4TB variant seems much more reasonably priced compared to 4TB 990 Pro :)
ОтветитьHave an m2 studio max with the acasis enclosure tbu405pro m1 Speeds are 2380 write & 2808 read.
ОтветитьCan you please review Lexar ARES 2tb version
Ответитьi just got one yesturday. 真香呀~
Lexar NM790 2TB:2149 TWD (67.2 USD) @Taiwan
I am looking for a 4tb drive to use as an os drive in a thuderbolt enclosure for an older imac, what drive would you recommend for that?
Ответитьso would this be a goodssd drive for gaming on i know nothing about tis sorta stuff
ОтветитьI just bought 4 of them for my gaming rig. They are going in a raid 0
Ответитьthanks for the review, another set of information would be greatly apreciated such as: idle temp/max temp, idle mixed and max power draw in laptop/desktop and the latency of the drive, pcie4/pcie3 speeds❤
a very nice to have info (wich nobody seems to do) is measurements from the m.2 pins to the top of the ssd for clearance reasons(especially with HS versions) . most of the data regarding size is the overall thickness of it but not the actual "height"
OS drives are a cheat because its likely testing the drive almost empty, difference between high end drives and low end is they retain performance as they fill up.
ОтветитьAny idea about using it in ps5?
ОтветитьI just purchased the Lexar NM790 4TB to replace my small 500gb WD Blue.
ОтветитьIs it normal that this ssd idle on 50°C and it goes 70-72°C on stress test?
ОтветитьMore intensive files..? Sounds funny. Thanks for the review.
ОтветитьToday I found a banging deal on the Dutch Amazon for the new NM790 4TB drive, I was looking for something very high capacity and TLC. 217 euros for that, the WD SN850x 4TB is about 330 and the 990 Pro 4TB doesn't ship yet and will be expensive, the 980 pro doesn't have a 4TB option and the other drives in it's price range are either QLC or from brands that I've never heard off like Emtec. And the fact that it is also blazing fast is a great plus. Just will have to wait for about 10 days when it's in stock and shipping. It will be replacing a 6TB Toshiba P300 SMR drive which I use as a game drive, however is painfully slow at updating games.
Ответитьhi bro the Lexar NM790 SSD 4TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe M.2 2280 is single sided or double sided?
Ответитьi never used samsung or other Nvme yet , my first was and still is a lexar 610 not knowing other brands cant tell if its better or worse than them BUT what i know is i never ever had any issue with it so far after almost 3 years or so , its only a 500GB one which is very low and its a while im thinking to upgrade it to a 2TB and with the exp i had with the first one im going with lexar again
ОтветитьSamsung is still the best choice for nvme ssd ..
ОтветитьAlso in terms of usable drive space, Lexar has over 20GB more than Samsung!
My two Samsung SSDs: a 1TB M.2 990 Pro (which is at 81% health after only 3 months; research the drama around this f*kup) and 2.5" Samsung 860 QVO shows up as 930GB on Disk Management/Win Explorer; 😂
vs Lexar 1TB 2.5" SSD and M.2 NS100 SSD at 953 GB
(or in OneCommander: my Samsung SSDs at 1,000GB capacity vs Lexar SSDs at 1,024GB).
Ditch Samsung! They think you don't have a choice! 😂
Got a couple for 95$ each for a new PC build :D Can't wait to finally try NVME SSDs, it's been such a long time since I've wanted to say goodbye to SATA cables, 2.5" SSDs and 3.5" HDDs >:) Thanks for the vid !
ОтветитьCould you do a power consumption test, seeing which lasts longer as an OS drive on a laptop?
ОтветитьYep nevermind, I decided to skip the Lexar NM790 to NM800 Pro M.2 NVMe Solid State Drive for this time in my opinion, so guess what, sn850x was on the first place when I just bought it on Amazon for the past month, sn850x is on the third place, Adata Legend 960 is on the second place in my opinion, at this point, nm800 pro is a sn850x beater, 990 pro killer or 980 pro killer, lag eliminator and stutter dominator, so that's why nm800 pro is on the first place for now for this time to be honest.
ОтветитьIs it good to partition ssd like hdd? Will partition decrease the life and reliability of ssd?
ОтветитьHey, i like your channel overall but if you make ssd review temps, throttling, and performance under heavy load\temperature is crucial in anything you mark with "review" words. Just a tip.
ОтветитьI dream of a 12TB NVMe and an aluminium enclosure for it.
Ответитьi also bought a LEXAR 1 TB SSD
ОтветитьWhat's the difference between this drive and the NM800?
ОтветитьThe WD_Black SN850X has better read / write (7343 Read / 6674 Write CrystalDiskMark) performance vs. the 980 Pro and 1200TBW for 2TB. Prices ($139.99 USD for 2TB) are similar as well and 5 yr warranty. Personally I'd pay $20 more for a product with a proven track record. Highly doubt I'd ever have to use the "warranty" nor come close to reaching the 1200TBW before an "upgrade" would be well worth it by the time. Is the 990 Pro still having issues with burning through its life cycle (some were recording they were down to like 80% after just 2 weeks, etc..) at absurd rates? Perhaps this is why it seems to be widely disregarded / considered a failed product. Being fast doesn't matter so much without reliability to go along with it.
ОтветитьWhat is your recommendation on storing virtual machines for a home lab. Few windows virtual machines without any I/O intensive workloads.
ОтветитьLexar is no longer a Micron company, it's sold to a Chinese company , and of course, poor quality
ОтветитьNono no fastest and cheapest nemix.nemesis
ОтветитьSSD SEAGATE ZP2000GM3A013 FIRECUDA 530 2TB NVME PCIE GEN 4.0 X 4 M.2 2280

M.2 2280-S2
Read : 7,300 MB/s max
Write: 6,900 MB/s max

Guarranty : 5 Years
This is the fastest NVMe Gen 4 with the highest retudancy 2.55 Petabyte written!!!!
why are these people trying to disguise a dramless SSD as a proper dram ssd?
I'm impressed about that dramless SSD can reach up to 7GB/s, but lack of important fact that what happens after SLC cache capacity ... i'm concerning about the people will going to trust this video and going to buy a dramless SSD without a proper understanding.
Laugh in PNY.
ОтветитьHMB ? Then it is useless for PS5.
ОтветитьGreat review, i will definitely check out any deals on this Lexar brand next time i'm looking.
ОтветитьWhen you get a chance. Can you compare the Lexie to the Firecuda 530.
ОтветитьLex looks better than Sam. And with the warranty, and the price Lex looks to be the best.
Ответить🤔 The Lexar is an interesting drive spec but how come you didn't compare it to a Samsung 990 pro ?
ОтветитьHow about Samsung 990 pro?
Ответитьits not a bout raw speed with me its about lifespan ignoring everything else this looks like a solid buy.
Ответитьim sorry but pls tell me (for dummies) is this drive a good drive to store and play games from? because 2TB with 1000TB warranty, for that price, sounds realy good tbh. thx for the in depth investigation ^^
ОтветитьI recently built a computer and upgraded my computer with Samsung SSD drives. Thanks for information on the Lexar NM790. My next upgrades or computer builds should have the Laxar NM790.
ОтветитьLexar NM790 only available in the UK
Ответитьaigo P7000Z M.2 SSD 2TB for $81.55 USD
