I remember seeing Jurassic Park re-released in 3D a few years ago on its anniversary and the movie worked so well with 3D despite having never been filmed in 3D that it truly felt like seeing it again for the first time which was such an amazingly strange and awe-inspiring feeling. Things like that rarely happen in film, I just can't even comprehend how in the hell they did it, but hats off to those who worked on the 3D cut. Bless you Steven Spielberg for working so carefully on the 3D cut to ensure it still remained intact for fans even after 20 years.
ОтветитьThe Day the Earth Stood Still - early 1950's. The effects were obvious and cheap, but they were 'suggestive', effectively leaving 80% to your extended imagination, which ran away with it... (same for THEM!)...
ОтветитьThe 5th element
ОтветитьMetropolis will be as visually stunning in 2027 as it was in 1927.
I hope to God it has a cinema re-release in 4 years time.
I think that CGI can take away from movies especially in prequels. For example in the Star Wars prequel trilogy the spaceships looked more modern than the ones in the original trilogy which was set years later according to the plot timeline. I prefer it when CGI is used when it is the ONLY way that an effect can be created. In other words having an actor play multiple characters on the screen at the same time. Personally, even though they might be more expensive to make, I loved the way that the original Star Wars Trilogy and Back To The Future trilogy used actual physical effects eg miniature models for spaceships and lifesized Deloreons and more computerised methods for the light sabres and the Deloreon time travelling.
ОтветитьThe tornado in the Wizard of Oz has aged well. Among other things, it's properly dusty and dirty.
ОтветитьDon't forget irobot 2004, The visual effects looks as good as it does nowadays in my opinion, Even on how the robots were CGI effects
ОтветитьI'm still hate family guy ok?
ОтветитьHeck yeah! Jurassic Park completely deserves the number one spot, WatchMojo this is the first time I actually agree with you
ОтветитьOh please! The greatest special effects of all time was Moses parting the Red Sea in The Ten Commandments.
ОтветитьNo the dark crystal?
ОтветитьHere are just a few honourable mentions of mine that weren’t mentioned in this video: The Matrix (1999), Independence Day (1996), Armageddon (1998), King Kong (1933), Forbidden Planet (1956), Alien (1979), Aliens (1986), The Abyss (1988), Twister (1996)
Ответить#10: Starship Troopers (1997)
#9: Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979)
#8: Metropolis (1927)
#7: A Trip to the Moon [aka Le Voyage dans la Lune] (1902)
#6: Star Wars original trilogy (1977-83)
#5: Back to the Future Part II (1989)
#4: Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)
#3: Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)
#2: 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
#1: Jurassic Park (1993)
Honorable Mentions:
- Blade Runner (1982)
- The Thing (1982)
- An American Werewolf in London (1981)
- The Fly (1986)
Worst list you guys ever created. The honorable mentions are WAY better than the list itself. The Fly, American Werewolf and The Thing should be top 3
ОтветитьI'd say another missed honorable mention was Christopher Reeve's 'Superman' from 1978. Granted, not every effect is equally impressive, but there are still quite a few wow moments some 44 years later.
ОтветитьWhen I was in college, I had taken a film study class. One of the films shown during class was a film serial starring Gene Autry called The Phantom Empire. The Phantom Empire referred to the underground "Scientific City Of Muritania" Considering the year in which this serial was made-1935-the special effects look pretty amazing!
ОтветитьI must say that the special editions of "Star Wars" are not too special. It essentially was adding a bunch of pointless, fake looking CGI that are anything but seamless.
ОтветитьAlien - the first one!
ОтветитьThe original King Kong should have been here.
ОтветитьHands down, 2001 a space odyssey. Masterpiece on all levels.
ОтветитьI think the whole premise behind this here video is flawed Is it really fair to compare a movie from the Silent era when a budget was pretty much nonexistent for effects? Jurassic Park should not get first place: Spielberg threw millions on expensive state of the art effects from studio artists that spent their lives perfecting their craft. How does that fairly compare to an early film like Metropolis? Ranking videos are for idiots who do not understand the value of art... In art (in movies) its not which movie is better than the other...its why a movie is better than the other. Lang has no chance to beat Spielberg or Cameron because of the money power the latter have. A separate list should be created that does not rank but explains why they are noteworthy. And this list could then, on a more leveled plane field , include creativity, innovation and meaningfulness. I find I do not always enjoy a movie full of CGI and image matting...The simpler, the better.... I think that is why the original Blade Runner, with its beautiful, dream like simplicity is one of the most effective set of special effects that did not look like a cartoon (the Troopers movie) and exudes poetic imagery, hypnotic sound track and haunting cinematography. Please revise your list.
ОтветитьIndependence Day - the original and Twister came out about the same time and extremely impressive with special effects.
ОтветитьBatman 1989 and Batman Returns had the best special effects!
ОтветитьOHH... so even though Who Framed Roger Rabbit is part of the opening, it's not on the actual list or even an HM? DISRESPECTFUL!!!
ОтветитьGodzilla 1954
ОтветитьJp1 t Rex tops all modern effects
ОтветитьStarship troopers looks better then the star wars prequels
ОтветитьWhen I saw the 1990s Lost In Space movie, I was wowed by the animation of Major West's combat armor, and I was super psyched about what CGI could do with the powered armor of the Mobile Infantry for Starship Troopers. Instead, I got cool-ish bugs and that's all. Instead of showing the evolution of infantry, which the book does an amazing job of, we have unarmored humans dying in over-the-top gory detail in a half testosterone, half political commentary, nearly all stupid-dialogue movie ("I'm dying... It's all right because I got to have you" Oh jeez...) that is best off forgotten.
ОтветитьNo avatar?thank god it sucked ass!ps I love Cameron, t1,t2,the abyss, true lies.robp
ОтветитьTroopers, is a fukin classic!even with denise richards,her acting was not that good,thank god for wild things.robp
ОтветитьJurassic Park rules
ОтветитьIndependence Day? 😳
ОтветитьNot only is Terminator 2 on this list for its effects, but also because it's even better than the original. 2001 came out a year before man went to the moon, and it still looks good. Also Roger Rabbit has some of the most convincing animation in a live action movie.
ОтветитьStarship Troopers should have been number one. Sometimes, I can't even tell that's CGI.
ОтветитьHere's what's missing:
* Superman (1978)
* Superman II (1981)
* Alien (1979)
* Aliens (1986)
* Batman (1989)
How the hell is AlienS not on the list? That thing aged so well.
ОтветитьMULDOON'S DEATH WAS A RIP!
ОтветитьFunny that not one of Ray Harryhausen's films is on the list nor given an honorable.
ОтветитьTitanic, Lord of the Rings
ОтветитьWhat about James Whales 1933 version of The Invisible Man with it's extraordinary visual effects that still look good and 1981s Escape from New York that looks like it could have been made yesterday?
ОтветитьStarship Troopers is still an amazing film. Such a visually stunning yet campy film.
ОтветитьHow about the original King Kong? One of the most exciting films ever made, start to finish - the battles between Kong and the other monstrous denizens of the island are spectacular, and his final moments atop the Empire State Building still bring tears...
ОтветитьOn glaring missing honorable mention: The Forbidden Planet
ОтветитьYou really need to look over "Forbidden Planet" from 1956. Everything in that movie was far ahead of its time including the acting.
ОтветитьWhere's the thing? Oh ok
Ответитьblade runner only an honorable mention?
ОтветитьThe WorkS of GEORGES MÉLIES stay Hallucinating for the time they were created, a century ago . The Film HUGO CABRET is a Brillant Tribute to Him
Ответитьthe original King Kong Should be on this list. The technology used in this 1933 movie was used in Star Wars and countless others. this movie stands the test of time.
Ответить
