No clue why people even defend Toy Story 4. The Woody stuff was amazing but it was only like 40% of the film. The rest of it was the biggest soulless cash grab ever.

Elemental didn’t flop… it’s on track to earn $430 million. Just because a film doesn’t do too good on opening weekend doesn’t mean it’s immediately a flop.

I'm genuinely mad at the fact that pixar is making another toy story movie, I wanted toy story 4 sure but toy story 5 is too much. If they wanted to make a sequel, there are so many movies they could've made instead of a fifth toy story movie. So many examples like a cars 4, monsters inc 3, a bug's life 2, or ratatouille 2, and even incredibles 3. But nope, they went this far, its like they threw the original movie ideas card out the window, after elemental bombed and they brought the card back creating elio.

This is a massive issue with a lot of studios like Pixar, they do something genuinely cool and unique which brings them success, and then they take that success and say "if we just do the same thing again, we'll continue to be successful" so they end up making a shit ton of sequels and they stop revolutionizing the same way they once did. We've seen it with Dreamworks.

I thought the reason elemental failed domestically was because it was released around 2 other better marketed films with Spiderverse and... there was another one but I can't remember it.

Honestly, I saw it and if I'm honest the first half was quite generic and I can see what people mean by not liking it so much at that point. Not to mention some glaring worldbuilding mistakes. But the second half is where it actually got interesting characterwise. Because yes, there was the 'you need to follow your heart narrative' against tradition. But the daughter never defied the father at any point. Not outwardly.

So, honestly I had an enjoyable time with it overall. The second half was the best half and felt more pixar to me. It touched on some interesting issues and complexities that a lot of immigrant children feel and how it's not so simple to just follow your heart when sacrifice has been made.
The first half needed to be brushed up on. Especially the world building elements. So, I didn't understand for example why air and water elementals needed to arrive by ship since they could fly or swim respectively across the oceans. It just didn't make sense why they'd use physical means of transportation, when they can physically do so. Maybe they get tired over such a large distance I suppose but it felt lazy. Maybe if they made the ships these elements came out of less... generic and more adapted to each elemental's needs. And I mean the non-discriminated ones. So then it feels actually unique and a city for elementals.

The clouds on the bus were a good idea. Have them upside down. I liked that.

So yeah, I just feel they really needed to work on the worldbuilding a bit more and how a city of elementals would actually look like. Because a lot of it felt like it had the aesthetic of integrated elements (minus fire) but was still... human designed.

You know why the good dinosaur is bad? Because it's the only Disney/Pixar movie that doesn't follow the three-act-story-structure. Arlo didn't learn anything over the course of the movie, didn't face his biggest fear. Him getting the mud paw print thingy just didn't feel earned.

They’re doing the best they can to give us good movies like they did back then! I loved Elemental but it could've been better. Like, let us explore the world of Elemental while letting the characters talk about their lives or some sort. Seeing the world like an experience without anyone in the movie addressing it unless it's related to a dialogue. Honestly, this movie had so many missed opportunities to add in.

I had no plans to go see Elemental until I heard it's supposed to be based on the immigrant experience and cultural assimilation. If someone had mentioned that from the get-go, I'd have already given it a shot.

Finally the low risk low profit start to apply to them... And it make me pretty pleased
