Best Budget Loudspeakers for Music Lovers!! KANTO YU6 Speaker Review

Thanks to Amazon's generous return policy I auditioned 12 sets of book shelves and the Kanto's YUP6's (passive) won. At first I thought these were the only one's where I could get away without a sub, but like all of these little speakers they do NEED a sub. Bought the matching 8" sealed Kanto sub and now it sounds like a full sized stereo. Added bonus: one of the few speakers that is cheaper in Canada than America. p.s. While this little system is VERY good, (best of the little guys) -- it is not nearly as good as Andrew says... but, like Andrew-- that's just my opinion.

I wouldn't say $500 speakers were "budget"

Your channel has been my go to for getting into the world of high quality audio and music listening. I’m almost settled on my first vinyl setup. Would you say the kanto yu6’s would pair well with a stick Pro-ject debut carbon evo?

I have a pair of Edifier R1280DB connected to my TV through an Optical (TOSLINK) cable.
Honestly, I could go in many routes. But I chose this because:
a) These speakers are quite good, average base, but perfectly clear and balanced;
b) It was cheap, at ~120€, plus 20€ for a 7.5 meter Optical cable;
c) It occupies a small footprint at my living room, to the point you not even notice them;
d) Provide me with Bluetooth if I desire to stream music off my phone.

I am wondering if I can get more from a home cinema setup, but it is difficult to justify 10x the price, for a little bit of an improvement...

We saw what happened with the Beats phenomenon, remember?
Where people placed form over function: a really bad sounding headphones were chosen because of their styling.

Therefore, we, as enthusiasts, shall incentivize this: function coupled with form!

If you dislike this, or simply do not understand, please make the effort of reaching on other fields you use but are not an enthusiast, e.g., cars, trucks, monitors, PCs, TVs, etc...
Maybe, just maybe, you will see that what you chose is not what the enthusiast love or advise.

Since they don't have USB... how would i best connect it to my PC? Do i need a DAC?

Music only 2.0. YU6? YU4? Tuk? I've watched each of your videos. (problem is i'm on a low-end Edifier budget and am grappling with getting Kanto's and spending a few retirement dollars i'll probably need in a year or two). I have watched your Kanto videos multiple times just can't clear my own mind with which I should get. Thanks. Great presentation..

The thing that freaks me out about the Kanto series is the further of the chain you go the less connections you get. On the YU2 if memory serves me correct you actually get a USB in to pair with your computer but on the four and the 6th they completely remove that option. That's what's kept me for buying them. That and the fact that they don't have a way to set which speaker is going to be the active speaker please correct me if I'm wrong

YU6 sounds rubbish.. I totally regret buying these..

One year later and the YU6 with 8 sub does the job. (So much fun) I pad into a Dragonfly Red dac, into a Schitt Loki eq. I use the Loki during low volume listening. Thank y’all. Keep up the good work.

Hi Andrew, Super impressed with all your reviews and I was shopping around for a soundbar for TV. But then, somehow I was not feeling satisfied after checking out Bose, Polk...etc. I felt the music output would be lacking in terms of covering a wide range of frequencies, which, I felt a Monitor or bookshelf speaker will be able to accomplish at least 10X times or more better. Did a lot of research on Elac / Klipsch The Fives (thought a lot about going for these but didn't feel the confidence from many reviews)/ Kanto / Edifier....for the sub $500 range. I checked on many reviews from different sources and my confidence in Kanto has only been reinforced and in fact going to order my first pair of Kanto. Your review was the final nail in the coffin, which helped me in giving that extra confidence to go for Kanto brand and specifically YU6. I feel if you could do a review with these powered speakers Vs soundbars, that will be awesome as a lot of buyers in the market would look for that to make the leap from soundbar to a powered speaker. First of all, thank you for all the great content you provide, it's really helpful

I've been looking into getting myself a turntable. The Kanto Yu6's seems like THE speaker for me, has phono, bt and optical. Im in dire need of keeping things minimalistic and white. Do you still recon these speakers to be any good?

The yu6's will serve as turntable sound and tvsound (and i can finally get rid of the soundbar i use atm)

Also, how well do you think you can rely on the phono inside of these speakers, it's kind of good to know because getting a turntable with a phono preamp or not. If i like the turntable i will eventually opt for a seperate preamp ofc.

Also, do you have any idea on a white turntable? :)

Edifier 1280DB....look them up...check them out. 150 bucks, Optical composite and BT input. Sound at that level unmatched! Hidden gems... Sound in the audiophile level
