A StuG was not a tank destroyer. It was/is a Sturm Geschuz this is correctly translated an asault gun. It was modified to forfil the roll as a tank destroyer. It was a stopgap machine, not great but the best they had.

If war was delayed for another 2 or 3 years the Germans could have developed those fighter jets, have a nuclear bomb and improved those long range missiles. The war would have dragged on in that case. It was the right moment to invade Europe when they did that.
