Ah yes the only Sci-fi where people prefer inferior effects over improved ones. "You had to be there." I wasn't. All i see is worse effects than special. SMH.
ОтветитьIn a car at age 4 at a drive in somewhere in las Vegas - these are the scenes of it I still remember from that.
Ответитьits so weird to see peter cushing "in the flesh" instead of a CGI sockpuppet.
i was just thinking - this scene could use a bunch of crudely inserted CGI space creatures; maybe a re-edit that retcons a supporting character's arc. hahahaha

Yeah, I was there... like everyone here says, there was nothing like it back then. Although I met a few people at the time that actually thought it was just "ok". I was 11 and they were 18. I was watching the news and waiting to see it. To me, it looked like the Wizard of Oz in space. That is how it looked on the news, so I was excited about that... I was freaking out because there was no way I could just go on my own at that age. But finally, after begging and pleading, I saw it a few days after release. It exceeded my expectations. I never had that kind of experience with an audience, so that helped..
At that time, I was also into good 'ole rock' n roll, so I went to the record stores and found Star Wars posters alongside KISS posters. Both rocked my world. I also bought "Story of Star Wars" LP and the MECO disco single... and listened to it daily. Then there were T-shirts, trading cards, magazines, books, etc.. no toys until the next year.
But WOW! No movie ever had an impact like that. It was like a rock concert for the theater. It is very hard to explain it to kids today. Luckily some of it was filmed and preserved and you can see it in documentaries. What a generation to be a part of....
Still holds up baby!!!!!!!!
ОтветитьIf the Empire was smart enough to start that firing sequence like, 10 seconds before Yavin came into view, we'd have a whole different story on our hands.
ОтветитьThanks for that. ❤❤❤❤
Ответитьlucky shot 100percent
ОтветитьSaw it on a drive in theaters
ОтветитьIt only took 47 & 1/2 years for this to occur to me, but... if only those Y-wings had had rear-facing blasters, they would have been able to keep those TIE fighters off their backs during the trench run! 🙂
ОтветитьOh no Porkins could not handle it
ОтветитьI was 10 years old when we saw this at a Drive-In theater in Libby Montana. I think we had to wait somewhere around 4 months, before the movie came to our town. What a summer! We got to see Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind and Star Wars.
ОтветитьMan, we went to see this movie at the theater 9x that summer.
ОтветитьBig Red Standing by, Simply Red Standing by, Red October Standing by…
ОтветитьBorn 71.. now 53.
Man why do i still get choked up watching this ?😢😮
When Lukes buddies go down like flies and its left to him. The music, his destiny.. its just so fkn well done !!
The epoch moment, and film shot is when Luke stows the target system and theres a silence looking up the trench . The blurred periphery of the trench heightens Lukes destiny directly ahead.
Visually so clever and this scene only got stronger as i got older.
Of coarse John Williams music really makes this, but everybody says that 😂
Oddly ,my father by himself saw this film before my brother and I. When he arrived home he described the mechanics of the X-Wings and other parts of the movie. My brother and I were bemused that dad was talking so enthusiastically about what I thought was a kids movie at the time. In Australia, no real pre hype at all. But that all changed..
In later years I appreciate the scenes that got us so invested in Luke. A big one is when Obi-wan gave himself to the force. It made me realise how the dark side is the more shallow side when Vader stomps the empty fallen cloak as though in dismay for a moment. We don’t know it then, but Luke also seeing this, is firmly removed from being a mere mortal for the destruction of the death star later.❤🎉👍
Lucas REALLY struck gold with this movie. I can’t imagine a world without Star Wars
Ответить👏👏👏👍
ОтветитьI can guarantee that this is the original footage. There is a lot of small details that were fixed in the 90s release. For example, the initial ships take off, the moment they open the X wings, the Blast of the death star. Thanks for taking me back when I was 5 years old and saw the battle maybe a 100 of times.
ОтветитьDamn near brought a tear to my eye.. Thank you, George Lucas.
ОтветитьTHIS is what I saw in the theater...that first weekend...pure magic.
ОтветитьThe engine sounds sound like Cylon raiders at some points, the movements are slower than I remember. It seems newer SW space fighter content is much faster these days.
ОтветитьGreat shot, Prometheus of Videos! That was one in a million! 🤩
ОтветитьThis was a special period where imagination and creativity was way ahead of it's time and even now it's still ahead of its time.
ОтветитьYes, it's the version I remember from early 80's pirated video tapes watched religiously.
ОтветитьPERFECT. 💋❤💛💙
ОтветитьThe best version to date. F-ing amazing.
ОтветитьI had friends on that Death Star.
ОтветитьThe greatest, most epic fight scene in all of moviedom.
ОтветитьPoor porkins
ОтветитьThank you
ОтветитьImagine Kenobi said "Use the thread, Luke...". Hahaha
ОтветитьGracias Totales
ОтветитьMy father would not do lines. This was a time when ⛽️ was almost gone forever, and an ice age was going to cause a climate crisis. My god absolutely nothing has changed. If only we took this as a message and started to fight back against the evil forces who poison us daily and constantly caused crisis.
ОтветитьGreat to see Vader's eyes through his helmet in some of the shots. Was that in the original movie?
ОтветитьYES! This is fantastic to see and holds up perfectly well.
Lucas was so disrespectful to the original artists and craftsman with those so-called "Special Editions" and burying of the theatrical versions. They were were the functional equivalent of going back into the old Ray Harryhausen movies and replacing the stop motion with CGI.
I'm here for ultramagnetic
ОтветитьParamus NJ 1977. An early showing in the afternoon. Packed theater of NJ teenagers. About 5 min into the film it stops! Lights come up. Technical issues. Mayhem (ok a lot of yelling) ensues. But in what seems like forever to a 5 year old the film starts again….
Was anyone else there too??
Red Five standing by.
ОтветитьI like the special editions, but then again I also like the holiday special.
ОтветитьOh the tragedy of Porkins
ОтветитьME AND ME DAD SAW STAR WARS ON MY 11TH BIRTHDAY BEST DAD EVER !!!
