Trying to make a serious apology on David Letterman’s show was something that David Letterman himself couldn’t accomplish (if you recall his affairs/extortion revelation).

I respect this man and feel his pain

It's better to have compassion. Something inside of him flared up. It would have been good if he could have spoken to those people in the audience he was insulting. Then if they could forgive and have compassion. We shouldn't label someone as bad or look at this in a negative way. Maybe a reason to talk and open up about our personal problems. We all have them.

Big of him to not go along with the audience or Letterman and make a joke out of it because he probably could have easily done so.

Letterman cracking up. That was it. That was the end of legacy media thought control. The old model of peer pressure tactics imploded. Talk shows were no longer a viable format for any discussion deeper than next week's movie, or a recipe book. Boomers lost the war on thought.
