Unfortunately, the Mazda will require owners to spend $500 every 50,000 miles to get their intake valves carbon-cleaned using walnut-blasting. That's because Mazda uses only 'direct-injection' while Toyota does not have carbon buildup on their intake valves because Toyota uses both direct-injection as well as port-injection (port-injection cleans the carbon off of the intake valves).

I bought my first Mazda (GLC) in 1982 and it was a... Great Little Car. We currently have a 2016 CX-5 (bought new) and it's been flawless. Will be buying another Mazda (CX-50 or CX-70) in the next couple of years. Have to agree there is nothing better in the segment. Also, I've owned several new Audis over the years, and I think Mazda is a FAR better value, and as a surprising bonus, the driving experience (and interior finishes) are comparable. Great brand - great review!!!

I love my CX-50. Coming up on one year of driving it on FEB 16. At 26,000 miles right now. Works great in the north GA mountains where I live. Very "planted" feel in the non-standard private roads in lots of areas which are paved, but not to DOT standards for grade and turn radius. While it is no rock crawler, does plenty well on non paved paths and pretty good in the snow.

I drive a 2013 Mazda CX5 with only 82000 miles and had it in for normal service and checked out the CX50 . They had a top of the line non turbo for about 39000.00 dollars really not out of line since my 2013 awd touring MSRP was 28,600.
I like the cx50 but may just buy another cx5

Got my granddaughter a 2021 CX-30 2.5. 26 city and after a long road trip we got 36 MPG’s. Love the car. Rides smooth quite and after you get used to the different technology you really fall in love with it. Love the smooth 6 speed transmission, why mess with perfection. If they keep up the good work and drop the cylinder deactivation bull crap I’ll keep buying Mazda !!!!

CX-50 last century ancient and clunky infotainment system is a deal breaker for me not to mention the torsion beam rear suspension. I can ignore the torsion beam suspension but the infotainment system is inexcusable in 2024. Not in a hurry to buy. Waiting for Mazda CX-50 to incorporate a 21st century infotainment setup.

I will never buy a Mazda, not because of the car itself which is a very good car but because of Mazda dealership and Mazda Canada. The oil discharge plug was wrongly put on my CX5 and leaked on my driveway. That created an oily mess on my driveway. I took pictures and send to Mazda Canada and never got any apologies! Never buying Mazda again !

If people knew anything about cars AND were in the market for a non luxury brand Japanese car Mazda vehicles are by far superior in performance, styling, construction and value. Not to mention their trims are almost as good if not better than the german manufactures and certainly over the toyota and honda.

Can’t stand when reviewers compare start prices with the competition and do not mention that the CX-5(0) are AWD standard.
The base prices for Toyota, Nissan, and other makers, apart from Subaru, are always for a FWD. Therefore their base prices are always lower…. If you compare AWD prices, then the CX-5 is cheaper…

I never thought that I would say this, but I prefer MAZDA over Toyota and Honda now. Mazda just offers better premium vehicles that are just as well-built. They come with better safety ratings, better safety features, better interiors, better features and more power along with standard AWD. I did my research this past year. I was open to buying a Toyota, Honda, Lexus, Subaru or even Ford. I ended up choosing the Mazda -- because it was the better overall choice.

Why quote the 93 octane power/torque figures for the CX-50 Turbo and the 87 octane ratings for the CX-5 Turbo. They both use the SAME engine. Both make the same power if run on the same fuel.

GREAT video Scotty. I just bought the 2024 Mazda CX-50 Turbo PP in Zircon Sand + terracotta interior for under $44K. I am older and have owned several other Mazdas. This new CX-50 is amazing. It is so rewarding to drive...fun. It doesn't "look" like anything else out there. To me it is a steal of a deal -- with AWD, comfortable ride, zippy handling, quality, and all options with the PP

But after test driving the 2024 november production car,
I decided not to get one😢
The rear torsion suspension with damper still too stiff AND loud.

Also... in iihs moderare overlap crash test, this car disintegrates😮. Like, with shy Le touch, then everything falls apart.

Got the Cx-50 turbo and put a little over 20k miles on it, truly the best of its class. Sure the Rav4 is a great economy car but for a similar price you can get a car thats incredibly responsive with a very very sporty look coupled with similar reliability to toyotas, in the end You got a great car. Im glad I chose the Cx-50 over the Rav4 and im glad Mazda is getting the recognition it deserves

Ummm... Why no talk about reliability and maintenance costs? For those of us that keep vehicles well past 200k miles maybe even well over 300k miles with vehicle gig work, how do these vehicles stack up in long term maintenance and repair costs? My 2015 Toyota Highlander Limited AWD with 200k miles except for break pads, one set of rotors and one new battery, tires and routine maintenance has had NO mechanical break downs, no burning of oil or leaks. Not even a water pump or alternator! I can easily see my Highlander going another 100k miles before engine or transmission problems. Will the Mazda go 300k miles with just routine maintenance and without expensive repairs like pulling the head and cleaning the carbon buildup or rebuilding the engine or transmission?
