Regular consumption of "Gallo pinto" (black beans and rice cooked together) may change your life. Just make sure you soak the beans before cooking

There are doctors who literally say the opposite...like people on carnivore eat high fat steak cheese butter bacon and all that good stuff and these people swear by it like jordan peterson...animal fats are good for you...avoid seed oils and processed foods and suger....i personally feel better on keto....but hay what do i know

Excessive carbohydrates (blood glucose) cause heart disease, not cholesterol. Cut carbs, not saturated fat. As humans have cut saturated fat and red meat from their diet the incidence of heart disease has increased, not dropped. The epidemiology that correlates red meat with heart disease conflates lasagne, burgers, sandwiches with red meat, it's worthless. Plant based Junk food causes heart disease, not meat or fat.

No, you don't want to get your LDL below 100 unless you would like to develop dementia. Our brains need LDL cholesterol. Geez, Mikey.

LDL-C has really minimal effects on heart health once you control for other blood markers. Doctors are incentivized to look at it because it's easy to affect with medications, but it's really not that important. It's like the old joke about a drunk looking for his keys under the streetlamp even though he thinks they're elsewhere because everywhere else is dark.

Thin endurance athletes on keto often see their LDL-C go above 200, but don't seem to have any health problems as a result. I'd be more interested in blood triglycerides, VLDL-C, LDL particle density measurements, and measures of insulin resistance like fasting insulin level if I were trying to get a sense of my level of risk. There's no good reason for the body at rest to have large amounts of chemical energy parked in the blood for extended periods of time, and all those measurements get at that concept from different angles. Whereas LDL-C is a much worse proxy for parked energy in the blood.

while this is interesting and informative, LDL cholesterol testes aren't a the whole picture. it's important to also look at HDL and triglyceride levels to get a complete picture and see if someone actually is healthy.

@erinkey2686
@erinkey2686 - 06.11.2023 21:53

Serious question - when it comes to LDL, isn’t it more about the VLDL - trans fats that’s more dangerous? (Hardened vegetable fats like shortening or hydrogenated anything) Isn’t getting your HDL increased important too?

Sugar and refined carbs can raise LDL and triglycerides right? So those are the big no noes. I feel like animal fat and animal protein gets a bad reputation but really I think our bodies know more what to do with whole foods, including animals, as opposed to processed food.

If you watch any videos from like 40 plus years ago, everyone was thinner. It’s gotta be all the processed food and fast food and sugar in everything making us sick. Portion sizes were better then, food from food groups, and meals spread out and made at home.

Even chicken or white meat is not good. It contains saturated fat same proportion as red meat. We should be targeting ldl less than 80 to avoid arthrosclorosis, anything above 80mg risks plaq formation. Need to refer Dr Caldwell Essestlyn and Dr Colin Campbell. 😊

Whoever takes any of the advice suggested in this video needs to look elsewhere for true information that will lead to a healthy heart. LDL-C is NOT at all dangerous, neither is saturated fat. Getting Triglycerides below 0.9mm/L (that is 80mg/dL) is the only marker that anyone should be concerned with.

Thank you for making this video. I'm a 20-year-old tiny, 5'2", 130 lbs woman, and I've had terrible bloating, gas, and other digestive issues lately. I knew there was something wrong because it's VERY easy to tell it wasn't normal as I am quite skinny (24" waist) and the bloating was so much. I went to the doctor to get myself checked out. Labs came back, and my LDL is at 135 with a total cholesterol of 205. I used to have the same habits. TONS of red meat, whole fat dairy, cheesy pasta dishes, junk foods (chips, soda, chocolate, etc.), and the results of the labs really woke me up, not only to how easy it was to binge eat (I've been eating salads now and feel fuller faster), but also to how much food has terrible ingredients and how hard it is to resist them. My mum swears by coconut oil because it was a fad before that was "better" for you than butter. I'm not only worried about myself, but also worried about her. If I was able to get my LDL so high at such a young age, how easy is it to get it that high at an older age? I wish schools would teach about this stuff. I don't need to know all the details, just the basics, but it really would've been nice to know how truly bad the foods that are commonly bought and used in the United States truly is for us with only a small percentage of the available foods being healthy. That's companies making money off of us, as per usual, I guess.

Excuse my ignorance. If you were intermittent fasting and working late, is there a reason that you didn’t move the window or temporarily stop until you didn’t have to work late every night?

Also does this mean you started using a more holistic approach to telling your patients to lose weight?

I have inherited the tendencie to hypercholesteremia and there have even been deaths in my close family circle because of this condition. When I was 12 I had to start taking a medication to lower the LDL cholesterol and been on them for 8 years. After changing my diet to eating vegetarian only my LDL dropped from 210 to 120. Not even the pill led to such good numbers and I haven't taken any medication ever since I stopped eating animal products because my doctor said I don't need them anymore 🌱

Hello Doctor Mike i also work shift time and when I get home I'm really hungry. My problem is that then i order sometimes pizza or other not very healthy food. Could you recommend if I should eat when I'm hungry then? I got some organic plant based food called Loewenanteil in glass bottles and ordered it. So when I work late can i eat it when I come home at 11 pm? Or shall I eat a big portion without extra carbs at 6pm?. Thank you very much.
