I see on your video one of the fig leaves is drying at the edges. What is that?
Mine did that two years in a row. It would start browning at the margins and slowly spread inward and then the entire leaf would curl and dry to crisp. It world lose all its leaves this way. The tree is only 3 feet and not growing fast. It's been 2 full years. There's is mulch, fertilizer is mild.

Excellent! I'm from South Africa and now in our summer we've had two heatwaves with 33C in the shade and 37-40 in the sun. So I built a frame of 3m long and 2m high, 1,5m wide, and covered it with shadecloth. The difference was immediate and remarkable,. Use of compost (selfmade)and mulch, plus watering are necessary in our harsh climate. During our next winter I'll rebuild the steel framework and extend it considerably, to cover an area of about 30m2.

Finally someone who gets full sun isn’t created equal. I’m in North Queensland in Australia and we have extremely harsh sun. Our temps sound similar to yours & the humidity is disgusting - you have a cold shower to wash away the sweat & before you’ve even dried yourself you’re sweating again. We have had 30+ degrees c for a few weeks, now and my seedlings are suffering. My tomatoes I’ve got part sun beside the house are so healthy. My tomato plants that are in full sun are barely growing & look sunburnt. Same as my poor cucumbers. So I got some supplies yesterday and will shadecloth my beds today

Great video but you mentioned it keeps the insects out but what about the pollinators? I don't want to hand pollinate every plant.

I live in Southern Utah and we have 110F. My corn is totally crispy now... so I bought a shade cover to safe the rest of the plants and others are in the shade against the house. Oh I forgot to mention that I have everything in containers due to a small backyard... anyways, that video was very helpful. thank u. Shalom

I’m a new gardener and I tried the hardening off…. I had no idea I was supposed to start in the spring and now they’re all sunburned and wilting; my kale and spinach leaves look spikey and some are yellow; are they dead .. ? If I prune those leaves, will it survive …… ?

I love the shade cloth and when I buy it, I’ll give you credit at your Amazon store, I appreciate your help; my question now is, what do I do with all the bigger plants untilI get a shade cloth ? Keep them inside for now, are they going to be ok without being exposed to sunlight ? I noticed that hardening smaller seedlings had no bad effects;

Will definitely be doing this from now on ☺️ thank you for linking everything also! This video was so helpful and encouraging.

Thank you. This is very helpful. I ordered a shade cloth and when it came it was much bigger than I expected and I have been trying to figure out how I will hang it over my small lettuce patch without it interfering with anything else. I hadn't thought of just allowing it to drape over some PVC hoops. Perfect solution and even think I have some leftover PVC that will work!

I grow many different vegetables and herbs in my garden. My garden get around 5-6 hours of sun though out the day but are shaded by trees most of the afternoon and plants are going great. I was worried until I’ve seen the harvest and it’s more than normal I think the full sun idea isn’t what we think

92° is a major cool down for us. My plants are actually happy when we get down to those temps. Tomatoes won't work for us because it's too hot to flower. I haven't tried the shade cloth yet because our air is too hot.

I didnt realize severe humidity affected plants!
I understand that many plants get cooked in too high heat.
But, humidity?
This video is really helpful: I'm in zone 8. Five months,/year it's normally 100°F+ every day. 2 weeks moderate in Spring, and Autumn; lows of 27°F.
My HOA won't allow us to put any shade cloth, of any kind up -- nor will they replace the 2 shade trees I've lost due to their mismanagement.

i found out there are two types of shadecloth, which each have their own applications.
domestic grade shadecloth is available in many colors and has ability to stretch, which can be good or bad, depending on application. they're marked as uv protected but, they will not last much more than ten or fifteen years.

industrial grade shadecloth is used primarly for dust control at mining sites and also used to keep rain off large sites as temporary measure. this shadecloth will not stretch (or sag) once suitably attached. available in water shedding models, and is super tough. it will last a lifetime, at a price.

Hey! Another Zone 8 here. What a pleasure it us watching you knowing I'm learning from someone that knows my area best. I hand water my plants. I saw a video on your day vs night watering but can't for the life of me find it now. I need this video. Can you point me in the right direction? I've been doing day but want night for more produce, if I remember correctly. I've been doing day though since I'm worried the night is still too cool. Please school me in this! Thank you for any and ALL help you've given me over time.
