I am very impressed with Cathie Wood as an individual. Your analytical look at her ETFs has provided an excellent view into ARK for me and confirmed that the founder of ARK is far more interesting than her funds. Thank you.

I had a look at ARK in 2020 and cane to the same conclusions really, already held SMT which is cheaper and has the investment trust model, so that was as far as it went for me. Kudos to Cathie Wood though, she is a great icon for disruptive investment herself.

Cathy Wood and Ark Investments have found themselves in a bind with the devaluation of Tesla. Apparently they had to sell other stocks to cover for the $200 DROP in price of Tesla stock. So, yes, I'd agree that they've put too many eggs in the Tesla Elon Musk Ponzi scheme basket.

As well as much lower charges and the huge advantages that are conferred by its status as an Investment Trust rather than a fund , Scottish Mortgage has one other huge attraction .
The managers have noted that companies are increasingly staying private for longer and longer . By the time they list as an IPO much of the gain has already happened . Many of the companies in Scottish Mortgage’s portfolio are unlisted i.e not available to retail investors.
Scottish Mortgage owned companies like Tesla , Palantir and Alibaba when they were still private and very much in their infancy.
Scottish Mortgage continues to realise some of the gains it’s made thru owning Tesla and has been reinvesting the proceeds into much smaller unlisted companies ... some of which are already the next Tesla 🤔

For getting into the world of ARK, I doubt I could have found a better video overview with a "laymans" terms description. Easy to follow 👌

So you say that every one of her stocks hit except for one (Lending Tree). Then, in the same sentence you say she/ARK was lucky, lol.... yea, ok... sounds like jealousy

The key problem with this analysis is that it doesn't consider exponential growth that cuts across all sectors. I suggest people listen to Cathie Wood explain it, along with Winner Take Most. ARK is much more than what was presented here.

Is the Canadian version of the ETF (example, EARK) better for Canadian investors or is it more risky because of less volume?

Hi Ramin. What are your thoughts on Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust? Would you put them in the same boat? Innovation and disruption has paid off for now.

It’s higher risk but if you are say 100% for the year with Ark, a drop of 50% would still beat the index. I do understand that getting in now may not be as wise but there are a number of instances where this has paid off.

How do we explain the big tech companies and their consistent high returns? High amounts of cash, reinvestment, low labour required?

Where do you see the Nasdaq in the next 10 years? Do you not expect the technological revolution to continue?

IDK about that. Cathie Wood focuses on Disruptive innovation. Isn't that the way we're heading in terms of the sustainability of humanity? You focused only on the numbers, you did not consider of the Quality of the company ARK invests in. Isn't the most basic thing about investment is the Quality over quantity?

Great analysis Ramin, however, I think anyone investing in Ark should know that they’re investing for long-term growth in disruptive innovation. The massive increases in value into all of her picks in 2020, to me, validates her hypothesis that those companies are the ones ready for massive disruption in the next decade or two as 2020 truly accelerated digitalisation from 5 year timelines to weeks and months. No one is going back to the old ways of doing business, so looking at historical charts, although provides insights is probably not the best way to look at them. Ark looks at wright’s law. If any company follows it, or shows signs of it, they invest in them.

10% of my portfolio is invested in ARK. I am in for the long haul. Mainly because I want to be invested in the risky forward looking companies the funds are invested in. I was happy when no one new anything about ARK. I’m excited about where the fund will be in 20 years but if it crashes and burns it will not be the end of the world. I enjoyed your video. I thought it was informative but as I’ve said I don’t think I will be getting out of Ark anytime soon. I auto invest and have been doing it for years.

If the fund managers are good I am sure people would not begrudge fees which are still below 1%. The problem for me is that I am too lazy to follow regularly so I get caught out by rapid falls hence why I like slow and steady. I invested in one fund which has 8% Tesla but SMT has around 12% but I didn’t fancy that one.

The fact that Cathy Wood has established giant returns WITHOUT investing in FAANG is a testament to her abilities. Cathy regularly interviews CEOs regularly so she has inside Intel better than other managers or dumb FANG laden growth index funds. Case in point Tesla. She convinced Musk not to go private.

Not that i am a Tesla fanboy, but i dont think Tesla is totally overvalued. Once they licence their auto pilot to others, their margrin for this matter will be...roughly 100%, since the software is already developed. Think about it. Tesla alone does not have the production capacity to sell +10Million cars and wont have it in 2025 either. So they need to buckle with at least one of VW, FORD, GM or Toyota. Theyll charge 10.000 USD for the software for Tesla users. Assume they charge only 5.000USD for the license and 6 Mio cars/year are equipped with this. Thats 30 Billion of pure profit. At an p/e ratio of 25-30, which is ok for a growth story like Tesla, this alone equates to their marketcap of today. Add a robo taxi network and +5 Mio of their own cars sold, and youre up for another +100% at least. Well and if they dont achieve these goals, theyll drop. Sure. But its not like there is absolutely no chance of getting there and satisfying todays valuation of ~ 830 Billion USD.
