You have no idea how sad I am to see how this pick backfired because as an NFL fan, I was really excited to see Trey Lance ball out for San Francisco.

Lance was OK filling in for Jimmy G during his rookie season in select games, and showed some promise as a starter. Then in 2022, when Lance became the starting QB, he had a rough Week 1 before suffering a season-ending ankle injury against the Seahawks. Fast forward to 2023, not only has Kyle Shanahan made a 7th round pick from the 2022 draft named Brock Purdy as the Niners’ QB1 over Trey Lance, but he also made Sam Darnold the backup behind Purdy, officially signaling the end of Lance’s time in San Francisco.

The best thing that could happen to Trey Lance now is that he gets traded to a team with a coach that doesn’t hate him like Kyle Shanahan did, and that hopefully, he’ll become the future franchise QB of his new team after a year of learning behind the veteran starter.

Edit: Trey Lance was just traded to the Cowboys in exchange for a measly 4th-round pick. He’s not going to start for Dallas this year, and we don’t even know if Dak Prescott will still be the starting QB for the Cowboys in 2024.
