Mortal Kombat Figures Are Also Stuck in the Past

In a perfect world we'd have Neca MK figures that would put the amount of Predator figs to shame.

Mcfarlane Toys is an extremly disappointing company nowadays. I used to collect their The Walking Dead figures, but then they started doing that Color Tops line which made no goddamn sense and now with DC/Warner rights, they do only popular characters. There's so many Batman figures that Mcfarlane did that makes Marvel Legends Spider-Man put to shame

The best mortal Kombat games were the first 3 because they were groundbreaking. MK, MK2, MK3, MK Ultimate Edition and MK Trilogy were the main games that defined a contained trilogy. It’s like Resident Evil being self contained with RE:0, 1, 2, 3, 4, Code Veronica, Outbreak, and RE:Umbrella Chronicles (fills in things with Rebecca in the mansion and Ada in Raccoon City..which ties it to Outbreak making it canon) are like the umbrella portion of Resident Evil. Former scientist are working for all these shady new companies making bio weapons, but the genie is out of the bottle the fact that in Revelations (can’t stand those games…out of being boring) they make the newscast of the attack with bio weapons not being this whole crazy thing meaning there are prob a lot of companies using them.

This makes sense since multiple organizations were made that Chris worked for, ended up being the bad guys, betraying him and then joining the next one and repeat. So that’s why I say once Umbrella went down in Umbrella Chronicles then that was the end of the “umbrella series” honestly as odd as it is you can put the “lost chronicles” dlc (part of RE5, as a prequel set in 2005 I think with actual gameplay) as the end because that’s Spencer’s death at Wesker’s hands and the last of the 3 founders of umbrella dead. I just realized that it’s the 3rd copy of the mansion from raccoon city (also at the Antarctica base), man did Spencer like George Trevor’s work. He probably regretted having him killed, seems like if you like a guys architecture that much you wouldn’t kill him haha.

As a Johnny Cage fan, it surprised me to see (several years ago, when I first searched) that there were very few action figures of him. Don't know why Storm Collectibles hasn't done one yet.

They didn’t even do a Shujinko or Onaga figure for Deceltion rofl

I mean you can only do so much for Mortal kombat figures I’m pretty sure Mk figures don’t really sell a lot so most toy companies would rather play it self and make more known characters to new audience instead of pleasing hardcore fans. At the end of the day it’s really up to netherrealm studios and whatever toy company they want to collab with if they really need to push figures to more marketable audience or just leave at it is and mostly focus on Mk statues rather than figures

There's still no Shang Tsung

I hate that they've done so many Scorpion and Sub-Zero figures but haven't done any of the designs I actually like. At least not as figures that look good and/or are affordable.

If MK was released in Japan as well, we could have got Scorpion nendoroid with exchangeable toasty head. MKX and MK11 one would have his human face. MK not being available in Asia resulting in ugly figurines.

what's crazy to me is how big the mileena fandom has proven itself to be and yet all we have is ONE funko pop. absolutely insane, I would buy any and every mileena merchandise or figure out there.

Dvorah doesn't deserve any figures

The Mega Man X series has a similar problem. Everything is a variant of X or Zero and once in a blue moon, they'll throw us a Vile model/figure. How many times do we need a black armor Zero? And I like Vile as much as the next guy, but he's not even the series main antagonist. I've been waiting forever for a Sigma model/figure. It's like they're afraid to branch out to the more obscure characters.

Having their roster being "Stagnant" is good actually... Somewhat. Because you showed that weird picture comparing original trilogy to MK9 and MK11... that tells us nothing because it doesnt include any actually new characters added into MK11 (Like the Kombat Kids which are hated and D'Vorah who is.... The most hated character in the game) and overall this whole point is just stupid.

Let's be honest, some characters like E. Black or even Skarlet are good to have there.... But overall nobody fucking cares about some nobody NRS decides to shove in

I do like Hanzo n Kuai as characters but 1. It’s so hard to find the signature outfits for them for the game versions I actually LIKE that aren’t a billion dollars, and 2. good loRd this video explains why it’s so hard to find any decent MK merch. NO FUCKING SHANG TSUNG??? ONE OF THEEEE MAIN VILLAINS SINCE THE ORIGINAL GAME AND LIKE??? Extremely fuvking popular? No figures from the newest game yet several months after release? It’s. Wild. Just baffling genuinely

Joker was likely the same deal since he consistently does work for DC

To be a little bit fair, I think the problem with all these toylines having mostly the same Klassic kharacters is that they tend to not last long so every time a new one starts they really just have to start with familiar faces and maybe one or two newcomers in order to get people's attention, it'd would been strange if, say, the MKX line had Kung Jin, Ferra/Torr, D'Vorah and Tremor and like maybe Kitana... and then the line was done without Scorpion or Raiden.

I think if any of these toylines lasted longer and focused on a specific game we might've gotten more kharacters outside of the usual suspects, like what Street Fighter did with NECA and SOTA.

With the statues I guess it is a bit different because it is understandable to focus on the more iconic kharacters given the kind of collectibles they are... like, sure, having big, expensive and detailed Scorpion and Sub-Zero statues makes sense but it'd be weird if they announced Jacqui and Collector statues

It's not the company/manufacturers that decide what figures get made, it's the license holder. Ed Boon and just WB/Midway/whoever are the ones to blame for the lack of diversity in figures.

Coming late to this, but I know how you feel. Especially since my favorite character's Mileena, it's ridiculous how, with the exception of a Funk Pop, I got to cut an arm and a leg in order to even get one figure from her. Heck, I remember the 1:3 statue of her MKX design being almost $3000 DOLLARS!!!

The demand is clearly there. It's just that unless they're names both start with the letter S and they're men, good luck finding any (unless you're willing to shell out to a scalper)

Sad news, Storm Collectibles lost the license thanks to WB themselves and we could't even get the final 10 classic character.

Storm collectibles made a prototype for Kabal. If he gets fully revealed/made it will be the one and only storm collectible I buy.

It's sad knowing this, I literally just recently got into mk this year but there is absolutely no collectibles anymore on sale. Unless they are $100 a piece

It’s ironic hearing you complain about Sub-Zero and Scorpion constantly getting the spotlight and always getting more figures than the other characters, when in reality. I can never bloody find the Sub-Zero & Scorpion figures that I want at local game shops. But I see your point. Still, I’m not complaining. I love the MK ninja characters, so I’m not bothered if they get all their own figures as much as the side characters. But yeah, I do wish other popular MK characters would get more figures often.

It’s also ironic how Sub-Zero and Scorpion always get sidelined for the kombat kids. And yet, toy companies haven’t even bothered to make figures for characters like Cassie Cage, Takeda etc. But they still make more figures of Sub-Zero & Scorpion even though the stories of the modern MK games never treats them as the main characters despite being the poster boys of Mortal Kombat.

Man, it’s so confusing being a huge Mortal Kombat fan sometimes.
