The same guy who ordered the shooting to death of 9 unarmed civilians in Ballymurphy, Belfast in 1971 and the slaughter of 14 unarmed civilians in Derry, Northern Ireland on 30 January 1972. This is not my opinion. Both of these facts were established by public enquiries conducted by the British government itself. Bit let’s not allow facts to damage this psychopath’s glittering image.

James Blunt (yes, the singer) played a big part in this prevention of WW3. He was a high ranked officer and was on the front line during this negotiation with his Russian opposite.

With all due respect to General Jackson, and his very distinguished career, you Brits really need to stop retelling this abjectly absurd story about him “stopping WW3 with Russia”. While he did do an excellent job handling the situation with the Russian troops, the outcome would have been exactly the same had he followed General Wesley Clark’s perfectly legal and rational orders to blockade the airfield. That said, he’s lucky the Russian military forces already present were too badly organized, trained and equipped to challenge him. In addition, James Blunt needs to stop taking credit for having had an outsized role in the matter.

Britain think they can rewrite borders with impunity but in reality there is no such place as Northern Ireland, there is only the island of Ireland.

So Elwood was a middling officer at Sandhurst then and the Paras weren't interested 👍

Can't ever admit anything can they😂

I met Gen Jackson in KFOR film city HQ on my first tour, down to earth proper leader that didn't need to remind anyone he was an officer like some jumped new Lt or Capt.

General Mike Jackson said that the British Army held the ring as the Loyalists and the Republicans battled it out. He did just that.
I grew up in Belfast during the Troubles and I can assure all viewers that without the sense and determination of this man there would not have been peace and power sharing in the end. He was vital to that conclusion. I also owe this man for making people able to go to work and college and hospital safely during even the worst times of social unrest.
Only a small minority of Irish people want violence and its getting less and less. Respect to Mike Jackson from Ireland.
