When it comes to sharpening... you can go back and forth, you can go only forward or only backward, it doesn't matter. As long as you are taking off material to get to the apex (the sharp part) and forming that burr on the opposite side. Then once it's formed (the burr) you turn to that side and run your stone (file, diamond hone, etc) over the burr and it'll flip back to the other side. Then flip it again, hit it again, flip and repeat until the burr is gone.
Point being you don't always have to sharpen in one direction. Sharpening back and forth is actually faster but leaves a more straight scratch pattern.

For someone who’s constantly sh@tting on Bear Grylles for authenticity, I can’t help notice how sensationalist Les is about camping - sorry; Surviving.

It is all blah blah and very less action. This is not about survival but a talk show.

Watching the knife sharpen was hard. Why did you choose to run your hand on the blade edge not the back edge?

He does his research before hand, but it ends up always being on the fly. Its amazing how quickly you can second guess research and your own decision making in the wild.

Ida took that machete and used the paracord to tie it to that bamboo to cut that coconut down, it seemed u we’re swinging that piece good enough with a machete on the end u coulda whacked a couple out. Love the show seen every video you put out multiple times and used to watch it on tv

The thing with the water bottle is that most (if not all of them) are designed specifically to avoid bundling the light to create fire. If you find a bottle/brand that does that it's most likely an accident or perhaps an older design/make.

Less, you got huge BA's, and one tough MOFO! I live off grid 100 acres, in Ontario, 64, it's hard, but rewarding! when possible, watch your shows.
