I came here cause when Aretha passed there were alot of photos circulating and there was one particularly that I loved and it was her blowing a kiss to bill clinton and I wondered where and when that photo was taken ! The song choice was awkward and not befitting an otherwise joyous celebration. A song, message aside, whose melody and lyrics were meticulously composed by professionals to be sung as-is. They thought of everything. Consequently there was no need for Aretha’s signature pauses, long notes, or flourish. Soul and Gospel arrangements may require her creative contribution. Show tunes do not. As for the song’s message of lament and melancholy, any decision to perform it at this otherwise joyous occasion could only be interpreted as misguided self-indulgent. It was oblivious of her.
