I tried the secret photon hack with the Sc200 Compellent that you recommended yesterday. Incredible increase in throughput.

Great utility! Thanks for posting the download link.
But....seems to work only on Linux. I tried this on eComstation and the command failed with an error.
Please port this to REXX.

Wow what an insane discovery! I updated my HBA and now my 7200RPM drives are able to spin at 900000RPM! Thanks AoS! I am so happy that I pay for $999 a month Patreon tier to get access to this. Amazing!

great job ;) Next year I want a hack for my disk shelf controllers to upgrade them to SAS4. Or a hack to upgrade my spinners to SSDs :)

This was so well executed.
I had an idea it was an April fools video but then it started looking legit and then the bench numbers come back. Nope.
I assume you used a SSD raid to get the boosted numbers.

How do you fake this process, the dd command and the flash UI? Everything looks so real.

@ArtofServer if you have the time, maybe you could lend a hand to all of us over at the unraid sas spindown plugin forum. We are trying to work out why some drives mainly seagates fail to spin down to dell servers with hba cards

Great! Not only didn't it work as expected, but my motherboard refuses to clock the cpu at nothing more than 25 MHz!

This DOES work but you FIRST need to solder wires directly into the drive pcb. The standard SATA power connector does not have the contact surface nor thermal mass to run the drives this hard, which is why manufacturers down clock them in the first place and why some enterprise drives have dual power connectors.

Use at least a 10ga thin stranded ground, and 12ga positive wires on the drive. You can wire nut them back to the normal psu wires as long as it's about the same cross section of wire. WAGO connectors work the best.

Add thermal paste and an active cooler to the drive as well before you even go download the tool. It's not worth compiling it if you don't have the soldering and thermal paste done right first.

Microcenter can actually do this if you ask for it specifically, but just know it will void your warranty.

And either use a 1200w psu, or use a car battery with high cranking amps in parallel with the 12v rail to give you a bit of buffer when the drive is really using that power. I've actually seen it burst as high as 1.21 gigawats! Crikey!
