Great video. However, did not see any mention of wearing Safety Glasses.
In the video you are under a vehicle w/o any glasses.
You never ever want to accidently get Solder splattered in your eyes.
Safety First.

Nowadays most solder is lead free, especially here in europe. And you can find amazing "portable" soldering irons for really cheap, like the pinecil. It's usb powered but it's called portable since you could run it from a power bank if it's strong enough, but personally im just using a 65w adapter (like a laptop adapter) from the wall outlet.
Since it has the heating element in the tip it heats up in just a few seconds and can easily compete with "mid-tier" soldering stations. Just make sure you use the correct tip for higher temp applications.

1. It's soLder not sodder. Those heat-shrink solder connectors are substandard. Cut one open and you'll see that there is no complete penetration of the solder . It doesn't go through the all the conductors. That will create a corrosion point and eventually get hot and fail. They are just a cheap chinese rubbish.

Oh by the way, I bought that auto ratchet crimper and yes u can still over crimp the crimper. And even if u just squeeze the auto crimper doesn't mean it's strong enough to crimp. Not worth the high price. I think I better stay with solder heat shrink sleeve. Or maybe is my lack of experience.

I have trying to work on my wire harness, pigtails on my silverado low beam headlight. Gave it 3 tries. All I did wrong u mentioned. I got to keep trying. Using your last method solder sleeve heat shrink. I used a uncontrollable flame clicker on solder and stayed too long on shrink sleeve. Burnt insulation. Thx on your video.

Soldering makes a solid wire. Solid wires work harden and break. If the wire is a vehicle or something that moves a lot dont solder. Crimp a splice or a connector. If you wouldnt use a solid wire why would you make it a solid wire?

For proper conductivity and minimum resistance, for example, the wires must not be twisted as in India, nor dipped in tin by immersion. This method is probably prohibited everywhere in the EU.

As shown in other videos where they cut the joint, the 3rd type does not make as good a connection as a correctly soldered joint. Inner parts of wire are not soldered at all. So even though it's more convenient, it may not be the right choice in some applications. I feel it is better than a mechanical butt connector though because the wires are twisted together first increasing surface contact and then held in place by the outer layer of solder.

ADDING HEAT SHRINK TUBING

If you are soldering a joint, say after a wire break, or attached to or near a plastic harness connector plug, (or component such as a relay), put the heat-shrink tubing on the wire BEFORE you start any soldering, and then SLIDE IT AWAY FROM the bared wire you are about to solder. This stops any likely heat transference to the heat shrink before it is slid finally into place over the soldered joint.

The greater the distance away from the area to be soldered the better. Obviously, the length of wire being worked upon will determine just how far away the heat-shrink can be placed in the first instance.

Just a suggestion...

James Hennighan
Yorkshire, England

P.S.
Heat-Shrink comes in closed end or cap formats too, and this can be useful for some jobs...

soldering wires makes brittle wire that breaks near the solder joint. Best to just twist em tightly and tightly electrical tape the whole region. Fastest and best and longest lasting.
