I started with Roger with Spy who..., then went back to all Bond movies, my favourite being Diamonds are..... Brosnan lived on that role very well too and Daniel taken it to great hights of machoism.

Connery’s Bond has not aged well since the 60’s. Craig is now the best. Second is Moore.

"Sean Connery talks about Roger Moore & Daniel Craig as James Bond." - I started to see Sean Connery in the begining of this vídeo (the thumbnail) and I figured: For sure it is about two completely different interviews. Naturaly, of course.

I personally enjoyed the acting of Sean Connery, more than Roger Moore's version. But I believe that Roger Moore had to deal with bad writers and maybe directors. But, Daniel Craig did a great job as well, a very close second to Sean Connery's James Bond. But, to each, there own.

To me, it's not a matter of who was the best Bond, but rather, which of the movies best bring to life Ian Fleming's books. Dr No, From Russia with Love, Goldfinger, and Casino Royale (with Craig) were the closest to the books, while the Moore movies were more like a comedy caricature of them. I thought the Danial Craig Casino Royale movie best captured the inner emotions of Bond that were written throughout the books, but rarely brought to life in the movies. The Timothy Dalton movies were a good move back towards the books after the Moore comedies, but the Pierce Brosnan movies were too much "Remington Steele" and too little James Bond. Connery had a huge advantage of being the first, and therefore had no one to imitate or compare to. Every other actor had to unfortunately be compared to him rather than just being judged solely on their own performance.

I believe that Mr. Connery was correct in stating that Daniel Craig really gets it when it comes to his portrayal of James Bond and I agree. Craig reminds us that Bond is not just a smooth sexy operator with a lot of high tech hardware but in essence a killer, it is what he does without hesitation or remorse, but was also capable of falling deeply in love.

The thing is, I don’t dislike any of the Bonds, and I’ve had a moment while watching each of them where I thought that actor at that moment was the best Bond. It depends a lot on the mood I’m in and the season I think.

I've been around since the very beginning and as a fan transitioned nicely from Connery to Moore. By the time Craig came along, I was a senior citizen and my taste for this type of movie waned so stopped watching.

Probably the same as with most things. If you originally liked something, every other version of it will be compared to that thing, and nothing will ever be more like your original than your original. It's the same, for example, with the Star Trek debate. I grew up with TOS, so even though I can see the good points of other versions, I prefer the original series. Also, I suppose we tend to associate the thing that we prefer to the times, places and memories that it evokes. In other words... Sean Connery is the GOAT!

Connery established the character, so Moore and others were seen as doing the character Connery did.
It's a shame the special effects were so low quality in the Connery Bonds, and that is not his fault.
It is also not Moore's fault that the writers gave him more gadgets and punch lines.
Moore was generous in one interview where he said Connery was the best Bond.

I think it's best to just look at the Bond films as entertainment and do not compare actors.
Concentrating on ranking the actors takes the enjoyment out of the movies and shouldn't being entertained be the point?
They are all major departures from the books.

My favorite Bond movie is Thunderball.
If I had to pick a favorite actor playing Bond, it would be Daniel Craig. His movies are just better made. Connery was my favorite for a long time, but Craig is just too good and the scripts have more nuance.

Connery's Bond was a caricature. Roger Moore brought tongue-in-cheek to the role. If you've read the books, Daniel Craig comes closest to the character.

You can’t beat the original. Moore, Craig, Brosnan, etc…all brought different layers to Bond but Connery was just…cool. And he made it look so easy. He was Bond as written by Fleming…the closest to the character in the books.

I will admit I certainly noticed character changes in Bond when Sir Roger took over for Sir Sean. However, I enjoyed the transition and admired both actors for what they brought to the role. Daniel Craig brought back the Connery styled Bond as a hard-nosed agent rather than the suave 007 of Brosnan and Moore. If I had to categorize Dalton, I would place him in the Connery/Craig bucket as he also played a harder Bond. The story lines and gadgets of Moore's 1970's Bond were somewhat over the top and added to the movies bringing too much humor to what should have been a traditional Bond style spy story. However, in reality, no spy could possibly operate in the "open" as much as Bond without failing miserably. Love Bond as a character and look forward to the next Bond. Should be an interesting spin on bringing the character back from what we all thought was a climatic death scene. Of course we know it was a setup as Bond will always endure. As he should.
