When i lived in New Zealand in 2011 i witnessed the transformation of Auckland's commuter rail that was definitely very aged during the time i was there and used it.

Would be so keen to get back to using public transport and I'm hoping the britomart/Mt eden link is a big success bcs I'm hoping it gives a huge push for the project to link britomart station to the shore. It's the only thing that's stopping all sides of the city being connected efficiently

They should've done this 15 or so years ago. Instead they chose the cheaper option and did the stupid motorway bus lanes that haven't done shit. Now they're doing the rail system anyway. Wasted money

Auckland needs to stop expanding! We need more hydro electric stations. Decentralization lowers crime and preserves culture. Auckland is violent and a silly place to have a big city. Its all bays.

When it comes to infrastructure of any kind, New Zealand will take a hundred years to complete it 😂.
They’re slow over here and the break/smoko culture is strong.

Bunches above its weight 😂 have a word what really have NEW ZEALAND achieved!! Nothing. While the UK have had a underground for over 100 years now. Also 1.5 million people is a large town the road system in NEW ZEALAND is so outdated because all the money NEW ZEALAND government has all goes to the local iwi in there back pockets. The British built NEW ZEALAND over 70 years ago and when NEW ZEALAND became independent the country went down hill fast and counting to fall into a dark black hole.

This rail link is a joke over budget and way past dead line has caused so many business to shut and to be honest it’s going to move f@ck all extra people , Auckland is so spread out most people have to drive or catch a bus to the nearest station to catch the train. How many people in Auckland use the train?

It's because NZ thinks setting up lights and speed bumps here there everywhere, will help. Traffic in Mangere has gotten 100x worse because new traffic lights and speed bumps have been put in place. Prior to all that, there was more traffic in the maccas drive through, than traffic on the road. Auckland Transport is to blame simple as that. Wasting our money on shit we dont need.

I moved to Auckland a year ago and love it. The only thing I don't favour is the endless traffic. Rush hour is more like rush 5 hours cos that's literally how long "rush hour" lasts for every day. Public transport is so cheap atm but I can imagine it going up because of this

Have lived and traveled all around the world, and have been in most big cities, but despite being a small city, I hate driving in Auckland the most, and public transport is basically non existent in the whole country. The roads are a joke! Especially in the north. Sometimes I feel like I'm living in a 3rd world country.

As well hyped as this project is, It will not fix any of the problems we currently have in our city. Our biggest issue is the incompetence of our Transport Authority, Auckland Transport (AT) who seem to be hell bent on removing any form of motorised transportation, without first having this infrastructure in place. It is not only in the city that the traffic is bad. Most of the suburbs are now having to deal with constant road closures, gaping potholes, lack of parking. My Nieghbourhood has 3 main arterials that allow us access. Currently all 3 have major road works allowing for traffic in only one direction at a time. New Zealanders suffer from a "fix it now" mentality. We look at what is needed in the short with very little foresight for what is needed in the long term.

Thank you for telling me more than what I usually hear about my own neighbourhood. I have seen another video a while ago about this which was quite good. Bye from Grafton, Auckland.

Auckland probably has the worst urban planning of any major city in Oceania. Its CBD is surrounded on three sides by motorway and (currently) public transport is terrible. It's amazing how long it has taken Auckland to start taking train services seriously, when Australian cities (even ones of a similar size, like Perth) have been investing in new train lines massively for decades. Auckland has A LOT of catching up to do.

What about the earthquakes? Geographically the ground is very unstable, and prone to several earthquakes. Every couple of years, how do you build a subway in an earthquake zone without putting the train and the people inside it in jeopardy?
