How to ORDER and BUY a Tesla in 2024 (All you need to know!)

I can relate to your Toyota experience at the beginning. I was looking to get a Corolla before I started college and my parents and I were shopping around. The Toyota dealership near us wanted MSRP of a Toyota Corolla SE + a mandatory dealership package ($3k for wheel locks, paint protection, door guards, etc) + a $3k market adjustment price. It would have been noticeably more expensive than a Model 3 RWD after tax credit. It was even worse at Chevy when they wanted the Malibu’s MSRP + a mandatory dealership package + an $8,000 market adjustment that we were only able to negotiate down to $5,000. This was before destination fees, taxes, and all the other things you have to pay for to drive out.

My silver Model 3 RWD ended up being $36,220 - $500 with your referral link - $7,500 tax credit = $28,220 before destination fees, taxes, and everything else. It was a no brainer to go with a Tesla and I don’t even have a charger at my apartment (plenty of chargers at University of Florida, a Super Charger 5 minutes away from campus, and I can always charge at my parents’ when I go home to visit). My cousin lives in Colorado and they got even more discounts for their Model 3 too after going through the hassle of negotiating back and forth at a few dealerships. In Colorado on top of all the other discounts/federal tax credits, you get an additional $5,000 credit just for getting an EV and an addition $6,000 too for trading in her old ICE vehicle (95 Mazda Protege). I’m envious of her for getting around $19,000 off her Tesla while we don’t get any extra incentives in Florida T-T

You have to pay Tesla an order fee of $250 when it is you who is doing the ordering, and practically you are selling the car to yourself, the delivery fee $1350. These are the two up front rip of fees that strangely are not on your list. Problem is, there is nobody you can complain about it, you don't have a person you could interact with. They eliminated a salesperson commotion, make you to do all the work and on top of it they still charging you for lifting their little finger. I'm surprised that nobody is talking about it.

When does Tesla actually take the money for the down payment once you select how much you are putting down? Is it right away or can I just have them take it when I take delivery?

I just got my second Model Y. First was back in 2021. When I ordered in 2021 it was super easy, but 2 years later it was even more simple. Ordered on a Sunday picked up on Wednesday. Ordered online and then basically everything else done through the app (including the financing). When delivery day was here they told me the parking spot. Synched my phone to the new Y, looked it over for a few minutes and then drove off. During the whole buying process I didn't have to speak to anyone. Nobody pressuring you for anything. Had some text exchanges and signed paperwork through the app. Like you, I've had horrible experiences at dealerships. Typically buying vehicles at a dealership is an all day experience and they've used the bait and switch on me as well. The Tesla experience makes me not to want to go to another dealership again which means the only vehicles I will ever buy in the future is Tesla. I don't mind waiting for the vehicle as it's the exact one I want. It's possible through a dealership you can get a car that same day but it's rarely ever the exact one you want and sitting in a dealership for 5 + hours listening to their sales pitch and waiting on their financing BS just isn't worth it.

Is there any benefit to ordering the car with Advanced Auto Pilot if it can be added later? Why not just add it at home?

We both know you could be doing better, more practical things with that cash and do you really want a great deal of debt?

Hi Chris I ordered my MXP in UK when the 5 seat option was available and only the yoke. Will I have to pay extra for the 6 seat option and at what point do I get to change my option to the round wheel with losing my 18 months order position!!? Keep up the good work ;-)

Hi Chris I’m n Australia & have had an M3 Red / White LR on order from June with delivery showing Feb - May 2023. At a recent Supercars event (Aussie version of NASCAR) ironically Tesla had a stand that was really popular. The guys there showed me there was some M3’s coming in inventory so I decided to change my order to a Black / Black saved $5K & am getting the car in the next month. I don’t love dealer trickery either but found the Tesla experience of ordering a car then CRICKETS frustrating! Even now I have a car allocated & currently on a ship in port in Melbourne ( I’m in another state ) they still cannot tell me of a delivery date! As I hadn’t organised finance not knowing when I would get my original order it’s now a race to secure finance before my car arrives. Not the greatest experience but am looking forward to delivery day experience. Love your channel.

Moss Bros Honda is also my worst car purchase experience ever! Bait-and-switch once you arrived at their dealership after triple confirming the deal over the phone and text. It’s not worth the drive or the frustration. I feel sorry for people living in Riverside county for having limited dealerships options.

The other thing is, you don’t really need to wire any deposit to Tesla. For both of the deliveries, I just took 2 checks - one is from the bank on the loan, and the other one is the deposit. Since you got double charged on the Y, I knew I would not want to link the payment app to my bank account.

For the business write off, that is the very great idea. I will need to study that and will be grateful if you can do a ‘s-corp’ setup 101 video.

I am totally done with dealing with car dealerships. They are so outrageous. Over charge as much as they can (it is their once in a life time due to the damn covid). I will order the car from factory from now on. So I either will get tesla or some others but only directly with mfg.

I picked up the model 3 in 10/31 and Y in 12/3. I needed to pick up the Y as they won’t allow to push off anymore. So I won’t get the EV credit but I do get the ‘discount’ 3750 from tesla to take delivery in December. Actually, in total, I get about 4k lower because the discount is on the car price so it directly lowers the sales tax as well.

I took the loan from Orange County’s credit union for both cars. They don’t offer the best rate like some online banks but I feel they are reasonable and I also like to be able to access the branch to speak w the staff if I have questions. They are local in where I live.

I have a question. Since Tesla is opening up the Supercharger Network to all EV’s (some people even report waiting in line for other non-Tesla models) would you swap the Model X with something else?
