The irony6 is that Dreadnought also made the Royal Navy's battleships obsolete.
The British shipbuilding industry was their version of the military-industrial complex.

the concept of a uniformed all big gun battleship was developed by Italian naval architect Vittorio Cuniberti

Imagine the UK enacting that policy right now and then having to have more ships than USA and China combined

With how much larger the British fleet was its a miracle that the Germans preformed as well as they did in Jutland

HMS Dreadnought... Tier III only on World of Warships, but without her the mighty battleships of World War II like the Hood, the Bismarck, and the Yamato wouldn't have existed. By then, of course, it was clear that the aircraft carrier was the most powerful variety of warship.

Semantically speaking, it was not the aircraft carrier, (so much) that made the (Dreadnought) battleship obsolete, but the aircraft itself. An aircraft carrier is only as good as its airwing is available and effective. Without its airwing, an aircraft carrier is just a very big target for a battleship.

"Now that our superiority has been proven with 70 battleships, let's declare them obsolete and let the world know we have one dreadnaught!"

What is the point of the smaller calibre guns. I mean it says the first Dreadnaught had 27 smaller calibre guns and this was pre aircraft warfare I believe

Numerous fictional and computer games have a dreadnought class ship. The name stuck after over a hundred years. It still sounds bad ass.

Why do the animations look like they're going 50 knots like some speed boat? It really takes away from these videos for me.

As an American, im happy the Brits are on our side. Never underestimate their ability to one-up their opponents lol. Tenacious country that one.

In fact the German Navy was never planned to rival the Royal Navy. The basic idea was the plan to build a navy that would mean a risk for every other navy to attack. The so called arms-race was an invention by Jacky Fisher as he could use that word as an argument for demanding more ships for his beloved Royal Navy. So "arms-race" became somewhat like an idiom, but in reality the German Navy was never a real equivalent rival of the Royal Navy.
And this idiom works even today. Here you say "Germany began an aggressive battleship building program". So was the self-conception and the two power standard of the Royal Navy not aggressive?
Furthermore look at the North Sea. This is the basic surrounding of the German west cost and most German ships had a range that covered just that Sea. So it was in Germany´s vital interest to have a navy that would secure the North Sea what led to an obvious conflict of interests with the UK. But naming Germany´s interest "aggressive" backfires on you, the Brits, as their building programs could also be called aggressive.

Finally, nuclear subs shooting ICBM underwater destroyed everything afloat. Combined with recon stealth fighters covering 1000’s of miles in minutes. I was hopeless for the enemy.

If it was not for defective british shells that had a habit of detonating early, the German fleet at jutland would have been reduced to obscurity.

You missed mentioning 33 light cruisers of Kaiserliche Marine at the start of WW1.Pretty sure they had 57-58 cruisers in total.

The fact that dreadnought translates to “fear nothing” seems kind of ironic, since when it was launched it was instantly the most feared ship on earth

The moment you switched to the WoWs footage of Dreadnought sabaton started their guitar solo that is about 1/3rd of the way through the song, so instead of classical music, i got badass quitar from my favorite metal band that never dissapoints
