Due to lymphedema issues in my right leg I have to wear a compression stocking, in summer it’s a toeless nude version😞. I’ve had to manipulate all my clothing choices to work around the stocking because I agree….nude stockings look terrible! Life could be worse but for someone who likes fashion, it’s a bummer! Love your tips, you nailed all of them and explain why. I’ve always hated capris….now I know the reason!

What is the deal with "cowl necks" I don't really see anything wrong they add some interest and make draw the eye down vertical? Am I wrong? is it a generational issue? I am not that old but they seem kind of classic. Please provide some explanation. I am open to giving them up but just curious. I think the pants you are show are very on target on the capri but they are wide at the the thigh, which is where many women carry weight. Which I feel emphasize thigh and hip size. What do you think. FYI really do like your videos and wish I could get my hair to look as soft and pretty as yours.

You can get hose with no reinforced toes which go well with open toe imo.

I've found that the best nude tights are Capezio Footed Dance Tights, they hold everything in and give a great coverage and make me feel confident a summer dress for a formal occasion such as a wedding or christening.

I love that comment about the bad cowl neck. I had some of those!

As someone who used to have to wearing stockings in the ice age of corporate america, aka the 90's and 00's I am SO glad pantyhose and stockings are no longer required. They equal blisters, annoyance, tackiness. I wanted to burn them all at the time lol.

Tunics are awesome for short waisted ladies sans pockets. The sweater you wore is sexy but again for the short waisted - nope

nude pantyhose looks fine if not shiny and you wear them with tan or light colored shoes. You wore them with a hideous, too long too full skirt and black shoes. That skirt looks frumpy with anything. A short pencil skirt worn with nude hose and light colored shoes would be fine. The reason black hose improved the look of that outfit was because the shoes were black. If you want to make your legs look longer, everything should be the same color or tone. Even without hosiery, I wear black sandals with black slacks, and beige sandals with shorts or skirts. While I have worn black or navy shoes or sandals with bare legs or nude hosiery, the effect is the same, not good. The shoes should match the legs..

The cowl neck top needs to go under a tailored jacket. It's not a piece to be worn alone. It was never a piece to be worn alone. It goes with a suit. Cap sleeves look terrible on everybody who weighs over 100#.

The tops with pockets on the hips appeal to nurses who wore scrubs and got used to having pockets right there for scissors, pens, rolls of tape, tissues, pagers and cell phones. After a career of wearing pockets like that you don't know how to function without them, even when you now carry all those tools and supplies in your purse.

I think something that truly makes someone look frumpy, even if they are dressed to the nines, is poor posture. A second is not knowing how to walk properly in heels. Women stand out for the wrong reasons. Love you videos - great tips!

I do think you and other stylists make good and relevant points but it would be helpful to see how much effect and or improvement there is if you kept the other items the same (sunglasses, shoes, hairstyle etc) but changing multiple items in the next shot is not a favourable comparison . By all means do that to show a further improvement in a later shot which would be very useful.

I only wear capris because of warm weather. The little bit of skin exposed and uncovered keeps me cooler than in long, hot, pants. There is plenty of time in the colder months for my long pants, which is around the corner. On hot days I simply wear shorts. I'm overweight, and that's too bad. Now, that said, I do make the effort best I can, to coordinate complimentary pieces, with comfort in mind. At 55 , I'm too old to suffer for style. Comfort with style, is the only way for me.

Well, completely with you on all things (especially liked the part on pant length), until the pocket advice. You must examine the style against your own body type, but in your example I liked the with pockets version better. The other style looked like something you would constantly be tugging down and /or readjusting the neckline. When I’m at work I need those pockets notes, pens, and sometimes phones; not hands are found in pockets. You could however address the absurdity of massive cel phones jammed into back pockets, looking like they’re about to fall out.

You are not completely right! It depends how it suits to a person. Stockings are sexy and not frumpy, and black can be frumpy or sexy!!

If you wear stockings in summer where I live you will melt. It’s way too hot! I appreciate these tips. I’m having a hard time dressing myself at 49. I’m very small and all the clothes that are “age appropriate” are very frumpy so I wind up shopping in the younger person area. I have to be very careful what I get so that I don’t go to the other end of the spectrum and look like I’m trying to be 20 😅.

Nylons are now made where the toes are not there so that the nylons can be worn with sandals. I’ve never done this but I have seen them in the stores. Where I live in California Bare legs are the norm.

As a casual reminder, what looks good on her won't necessarily look good on you. Women vary quite a bit in body type. The drape-y greenish top would look great on some people! Same with the sweater with pockets that was shown later. They just didn't suit her body type, and that's okay! They might still suit yours :)

I have to wear hose, because between my two young children and four dogs, I end up with all kinds of scratches here and there. I usually opt for a black with a little bit of a sexy look, like a lace design or even fish net if it's a edgier skirt or dress. And, as you suggested, never with open-toe shoes. That said, my dislike for nude hose and my imperfect legs is why I opt for pants so often. 😞

I’d be cautious about urging all women not to wear panty hose, especially in the summer. Older women often have visible or varicose veins and a good panty hose can smooth out the look. Not all older women look good in opaque hose. Also your over the shoulder top looks great on you, but again, for many older women it would be neither appropriate nor flattering.

I might be doing ok. Marked safe from giant zebra pants and kangaroo pouch sweaters and Turkey neck shirts. 😂😂I’ve also never liked capris much. I do like a good pair of stockings or tights tho, but not all of them look good.

If you have imperfect legs, spider, varicose veins, swollen, mottled, discolored legs, hose are a must and nude comes in many sheer tint shades to cover up flaws; a sundress or summer shift with sandals is the only time i would go without hose in the dead heat of summer...I remember reading about Jackie Kennedy showing up at a church in Florida in the 60's in a summer shift dress with sandals, a lace veil and BARE legs! What a stir she caused!

Pantyhose is not just to cover up legs. It's to smooth things out, hide panty lines and helps shoes feel better. As an older woman I was taught that a lady is not properly dressed without them.
There are also sheer toe with single seam that can be worn under toes if you're wearing a nice sandal with heels for those who can't go without.

Hi Erin! I'm 57 and I love watching your videos. I also love your style; it's simple and chic! That's how I like it too. I find that as I get older, I like simple, chic and comfortable! For example, I'm really liking the more structured pieces of clothing nowadays. The stiffer cotton fabrics. The interesting sleeves such as the puff sleeves. It adds interest without being over the top. Keep up the good tips! 😊

Some of those styles are not for those in their 50's or 60's to me. So I disagree on some of those items.

I generally agree with your ideas, but bare legs on anyone with anything less than a perfect tan or olive, brown or black skin looks awful. Most people over 35 have varicose veins that makeup will not cover in the summer time.

The sandals look frumpy.

Black or nude tights that are comfortable look better all year round and do not have to be compression to help keep circulation better in lower legs.

You have to try different tights and pantihose. They look more attractive and professional.
