I live in California which if you aren’t aware is a once amazing state but now is a corrupt bankrupt lawless one party controlled joke with nice weather.

To that end, I refuse to fund any company that supports the super majority party that ruined my beloved state. After doing extensive research, I refuse to give a penny to Schlage or Kelsey as they are both huge financial contributors to the corrupt party destroying California.

Fight for what you love folks or it goes away forever.

Thanks for this review, Reed. I've had both the Schlage Encode and the U-Tec Ultraloq. The Schlage has never failed me. Easy to use and set up. I really have no need for remote unlocking as I don't give access to my house without me or family being there. This time i wanted a lock with a fingerprint sensor and purchased the Ultraloq and the hub bcuz the lock couldn't connect to my wifi without it. The fingerprint sensor has failed me and my family many times and now its finally not working. We just use PINs now. Notifications also work sometimes but unreliable. Going back to Schlage and never looking at U-Tec again.

I am going to assume that since these are all deadbolt style locks that the door latch lock is not ever used????

Kwikset is terrible , i have the Kwikset Obsidian with Z-wave installed on my garage door ,this thing never worked well , very short battery life , extremely weak motor ( sometimes it doesn't have the power to lock the door and it goes back) comparing to 2 Schlage Z-wave deadbolts , is exact the opposite , very long battery life (over 1 year) , very strong motor (but indeed is laud , but it doesn't bother me.
Kwikset is complete trash comparing to Schlage

Home key is great but the fingerprint reader is faster. The best lock would have fingerprint, HomeKit/home key, nfc, passcodes, WiFi and a killer app.

What about a lock for us HOME ASSISTANT (sorry, this isn't Paul's channel) users? I currently have the Schlage Connect and have used it for a few years and it's great. However, I would like a lock in our next home that I can link to automations. So when a particular code is used to unlock the door, it can trigger one HA automation, or if a different code is used, another automation will run. It is looking like Aqara might be able to do this, but I figured I would ask you since you have one and could confirm.

I'm so glad to not see August on this list. I have one August SL03 and one SL04 and my biggest complaints are unreliable connectivity, limited battery life, and I never got Z-Wave to work on the SL-03 (The SL-04 doesn't have Z-wave). And since Yale bought August, I'm likely to avoid their gear too. Guilt by association, I suppose.

Door locks only keep honest people out. Choose the one with the least amount of unlock methods. If it's keyless it's better. There's a $500 eufy smart lock with dorbell and camera that can be picked in three seconds. Don't buy expensive smart locks. Buy smarter.

Got the Schlage encode and love it. I want to try the Lockley or Aqara. But how do they stand against lock picking? Which is why I went Schlage.

I have the Schlage connect and I would have to disagree with the tank comment. The battery pack takes 4 AA and does last a good amount of time however it is linked to a plastic battery pack that has to be taken out in order to get to it. Then the battery pack is connected to a 9 volt connector which I have had to resolder a new one because the wires had ripped out of the board which in turn ruined the lock so it doesn't auto lock and the battery pack frame deformed because I had to do some soldering there as well to repair it. Highly do not suggest spending hundreds of dollars on security equipment when the power supply can break so easily by routine maintenance. Hope this helps to those who have been looking at this model.

I've gone through 3 Electronic Kwiksets and each has failed me. I suspect it's because their electronic locks are not built to be water proof, "The exterior can be installed on an outside door but not be exposed to direct weather. Sincerely, Kwikset Support Team". I wanted to try their locks because I wanted to rekey them using my old keys.
If the lock's product page does not mention weather or water proof, I would steer clear. The Kwikset 916 in this video does not mention weather or water proof.

I’ve had all sorts of smart locks, starting with August when they first came out. Lockly was my favoriite followed by u-loc, but now we have an octogenarian living with us and the fingerprint locks aren’t cutting it anymore. Is anyone making a face-id type lock? I need one ASAP!

Very good comparison. This gave me a lot to think about. One thing I feel would be critical is Battery life. I am using the August Wifi Smart Lock. When it is working Best decision I made. However Battery life is very short, I am replacing batteries every 30 days. Connection to the Wifi is super spotty even though I have a strong Wifi signal near the lock. The best feature of this lock is it knows my location, so the door unlocks when i get within 50 feet of it. So 2 questions, do any of these locks have a feature to lock/unlock based on your proximity (like the August)? If I am taking out my phone to unlock the door whats the difference between that and taking out my key? And do you know the battery life of each?

Do you happen to have a video that doesnt involve smart home connection for these locks? We like having our current smart lock, but dont need the whole smart home connection stuff. Just need the electronic code setting with physical lock. Or could you recommend a good brand instead?

I hate the idea if someone stealing my phone or watch and being able to open the door with them. Ugh.

You should have included Level Lock in this comparison. I've been using Level Bolt in Home Assistant as a HomeKit device using an ESP32 as a BLE proxy, it works very well and it's impossible to tell the lock apart from any other normal deadbolt.
