The sad thing is that Britain's efforts to stymie the Russians throughout the 19th century would come back to haunt them in the Great War.

It's so funny how those hundreds of brit earthquakecackles were gunned down by the Russian normaltrash. It is highly debatable if their volunteering to get killed in a war was earthquakecackles or well-meaning, but the former is more likely considering we are talking about normal brits and equally normaltrash turdcases who used to be slaves in ottoman service.

Early 19th Century geopolitics was a mess? Compared to the entirety of the 20th century? WWI, reshuffle allies, WW2, reshuffle allies, cold war...

It makes you wonder how many families were destroyed by their homes and or their merchant/fishing vessels were destroyed or taken.😔 If your allies are upset because they are starving from loss of trade and commerce you can only imagine how the locals fared in the winter and spring before the crops and early forage afforded sustenance.

The war of 1854/55 was not just in Crimea! Russia had at that time a large Baltic Sea coast as the Russian Empire of the time had control of Finland. The British sent about 18,000 men into the Baltic in 1854 with 16 sail powered battle ships plus a large number of smaller warships many of which had steam power. They increased this to 25.000 men in 1855. The French also had sent a considerable fleet though they contributed less ships & sailors more troops. In 1855 the french had 10, 000 troops in action on the Baltic coast. As well as a fleet of sail powered warships. The Main action was expected to be with 26 Russian sail powered battle ships.......... But this never happened as the few British paddle steam powered boats could run rings around sail powered warships so the Russians used their brains & stayed in port & never tryed to compete with the smaller steamers. In fact the British wasted a lot of money sending sail powered battle ships when a few steamers could have wipped out the Russians on their own & THE CREWS OF THESE BOATS KNEW IT even if the British Admiralty was a bit slow to figure this out! The only big land action was in the Aland Islands where British steam ships landed French Troops behind a number of Russian Forts The Biggest Fort being Bomarsund. These Russian Forts had all their defensives set up for a front attack by sail powered battle ships & no defence to an attack in the rear via steam ship transported troops & artilary! It was a clear easy victory for the French/British who hardly lost a man. With out steam power advantage to the British/French, these Russian Forts Would never have been taken. But! While the French Troops hardly lost a man in the fight they did die like flys after the battle & on their way home from disease from poor sanitation! This was not the only tragedy. The Alander people ARE Finlanders NOT RUSSIANS, although controled by Russia at that time. The British ships crews remarked at how friendly they were & often stopped to trade fresh food with them. Talked to them, had friendly visits.........! But because a few Russian soldiers were seen in the villages of these people & because Russian cargo vessels tried to slip down the coast past the mainly British Blockade of all Russain shipping in the Baltic the THICK top brass of the british fleet ordered their ships to shell many coastal towns. One minute the crews of these ships are on very good terms with these Alander Island people (Finnish Peoples) Next they are ordered to lob shells into them as a few Cossacks (Russian Soldiers) have been spotted in a village. I know the British crews were not happy as I had blood relations on those ships firing the guns. ..........It was not a time when you could say no to such an order. One had live to live to be old, another 50 years to get to an age when in England you could safely write about things that should have never been done! The Baltic part of this War was a turning point in learning, Sail Power was dead in the minds of all younger free thinking military minds though these things took longer to go up the line of command in the 1850's. Plus The huge loss of life of the French due to disease that certainly was of their own making....... poor sanitation. They slaughtered the Russians in battle due to a tec advance in warfare & some good planning by subordinate officers........ Then lost more men in the end than the Russains did. These thoughts did have some effects to help change the thoughts of many miltary minds! A mistake is only truely a mistake if you repeat it??????

Nobody has battleships. There are no battleships. If you can't be any more accurate than this you are not a reliable source of information. (Or was that just click bait?)

In Solovecky Monastery itself the battle is described differently: two British steam frigates: Miranda (15 cannons) and Brisk (14 cannons) vs the monastery defenders 53 invalid soldiers and 2 officers with two 3-pdr cannons and eight even smaller training ones, supported by 200 monks, 370 pilgrims and 20 prisoners.
On July 6th (18th) the British warships opened fire on approach, the Russians returned fire, Miranda was hit, the British retreated.
On July 7th (19th) the British warships returned, with an ultimatum demanding surrender. Russians refused. British bombarded the monastery for 9 hours keeping their distance, afraid of return fire.
On July 8th (20th) the British pirates retreated, burning and pillaging other undefended churches, villages and Krestny monastery in Onega Bay on Zayachi and Kiy Islands.
Doubtfully the most heroic achievement by British Navy.
