Serbia will supply 48 NORA B52 155mm howitzers to a mystery customer

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić confirmed the signing of a contract worth €311 million with a mystery customer for the delivery of 48 Serbian-made 155mm/52 NORA B52 self-propelled howitzers.

Speculation suggests that the mystery buyer might be Azerbaijan, a nation that has previously expressed interest in acquiring this artillery system.

At the same time, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's visit to Serbia strengthened these claims. Ilham Aliyev had one-on-one and comprehensive meetings with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić. In addition, many Serbian military products were introduced to Aliyev during his visit.

The Nora B-52 (Novo ORuzje Artiljerije – new artillery gun) self-propelled howitzer was developed to replace obsolete artillery systems in service with the Serbian Army. The first 12 systems were delivered to the Serbian Army in 2007, and more such systems have been ordered. In addition, the howitzer in question was exported to Bangladesh (18 units), Myanmar (30 units), Cyprus (number unknown) and Kenya (30 units).

The Nora B-52 is armed with a 155 mm/L52 gun. The system, which is a further development of the Yugoslav M84 Nora-A howitzer, can fire all standard NATO 155 mm ammunition. The howitzer has an automatic loader that allows a firing rate of 6 ammunition per minute. There are a total of 36 pieces of ammunition in the vehicle. The automatic loader has a capacity of 12 ammunition. While the maximum firing range is 20 km with ordinary ammunition, this number increases to 41 km with rocket-assisted ammunition.
