I found a more subtle Nintendo reference in the first game. (I don't know if it's also in the second.) It may not be exactly identical, but the pause jingle is the same one from the Mario Bros. arcade game! (I don't know if it's in the original coin-operated version as I've never played it, but it's in all of the console ports/remakes.)
ОтветитьI always felt like StarTropics was, along with Mother, the reason we have Earthbound today. Think about it, those games share A LOT.
ОтветитьMike Jones would be like Nes in the game cuz Nes all the weapons you mention.
ОтветитьJust bought this on my nes 😎
ОтветитьIT. NEEDS. A. REMAKE.
ОтветитьI was spoized Nintendo even used Jim Jones as an option. Since it the 1970s and 1980s an guy by that name use the sepation of cruch of state to make war with the US govermnet. I will not say then more that since it get's into thing's that isn't family friendly.
ОтветитьThe idea that StarTropics was made specifically to appeal to the Western market feels like such a foreign idea for a company like Nintendo. Even nowadays, it feels more like their focus has been on the Japanese market, while Nintendo of America (and to a lesser degree Europe) just handles whatever comes out from them. It feels so rare that there are big pushes for Western appeal from Nintendo, not just in their games, but also how they market their games, and their additional merchandise.
That's kind of why I don't see this series making a comeback anytime soon. A lot of games Nintendo makes comes from people wanting to make them, and I don't see many Nintendo employees, old or new, being interested in reviving StarTropics, mostly because I get the feeling most of them aren't even aware these games exist. The only way I can see this series getting revived is if a western developer like Nintendo Technology Software or Next Level Games were to pitch it to Nintendo. I still hope it happens, regardless, because there's so much charm and potential in these games, they don't deserve to be forgotten about.
I'm one of the insane people who got the game secondhand pre-internet and actually brute forced the code instead of just giving up (though not in one sitting, I got frustrated around the 300s and came back to it a few days later)
ОтветитьWay better than Zelda.
ОтветитьGood video bad game lol
ОтветитьI wish they’d revisit this franchise. I mean, Mike is no different than a Max or Drake or Guybrood. They can do something with this.
ОтветитьMe and Aunt Betty, yes, Aunt Betty.
Killed this game when it first came out.
My gaming buddy was my aunt growing up. She owned Atari 2600 and about 1,000 games it seemed!
R.i p. Aunt Betty.
I miss when we used to draw out the dungeon maps for the original Legend of Zelda game...
No need to call the hotline, when you have an imagination!
I helped you figure out where to go because you needed my help, and I will never forget that.
Damn Good times.
🤘
Even if it doesn't get a sequel, it definitely deserves a spiritual sequel.
ОтветитьA star tropics remake would be really cool. Like a reimagining with more fleshed out content in a 2D/3D aspect
Ответитьi remember brute forcing the stupid code because i didn't kept the letter.
Ответитьyou and me both. startropics, to this day, is still my favorite series. here's hoping for a sequel or even a remake
ОтветитьSo I watched the temple of doom last night and it occurred to me, Mike's uncle is Indiana Jones! An archaeologist with a PhD named "Dr. Jones".... 30 years later... Wow am I slow...
ОтветитьThese two games definitely need a remake.
ОтветитьI want this to have a franchise revival so bad...
ОтветитьReally wish that Nintendo brought this series back using gameplay/mechanics of Uncharted
ОтветитьMan, like so many of us, that letter and the water stands out about this game. I actually didn't throw out the letter because even then I was fussy about maintaining my games well, but I remember the pushback being crazy. People were pissed about that letter! lol
ОтветитьMIKE JONES WHO?! MIKE JONES!!!
ОтветитьStar
ОтветитьWell technically Punch Out was a game for North America as it takes place in NYC.
ОтветитьWe have this one in the 1990s via Nintendo. We have not finished the game lol
ОтветитьWhoa this game looks tight! I can't believe I've never heard of this game before!
ОтветитьOne of my favourite games. The combination of the unique setting, weapons, and music really set it apart at the time.
ОтветитьJust finally sat down and finished this game last night. Had to make the kid in me happy and it worked awesome game even if the last couple chapters were a little brutal.
Ответитьmy favorite game of all time as a kid. so freaking magical. I remember you had to put some piece of paper that came in the instruction booklet in water to reveal some code or something
edit: oh heck yeah you have that letter and showed this aspect! nice!
747! If ya know you know.
ОтветитьYou could have easily blurred the code with the classic no spoiler’s here motto
ОтветитьMy mom bought me that game as a kid.
I also got part 2 later.
argonians? ....from elder scrolls? o.o
Ответитьwootz seattle!
ОтветитьYes, the letter was their attempt at limiting resell of the game. Blockbuster wrote the code down in the handbook that came with it and the letter was absent. I remember this because Startropics was my little brother's favorite game when we were really small. He got stuck and I remember reading the little booklet for him. .... I want to go back in time to the 90s and be a kid again lol
ОтветитьWe got a reference to Coralcola by Gullivarrr in Animal Crossing New Horizons.
ОтветитьMike Jones for Smash!!!
ОтветитьTakida: "I need ideas for my game targeted at Americans"
Random Nintendo Employee who has never left Japan: "Uhhh.. Indiana Jones... Baseball... 1776..."
nice
ОтветитьI picked up a used copy of this game in the late 90s/early 2000s. It was great but I got stumped and stuck at the wet letter part as I only had the cartridge. I need to go finish the game now!
ОтветитьStarTropics is on Switch online, now we can all play it!
Ответитьheart pieces, dungeons, yo-yos, baseball bats.... this game is like Zelda meets Earthbound
ОтветитьA character in Smash Bros. with a yo-yo and a baseball bat? Sounds familiar somehow.
ОтветитьWHO?
ОтветитьI remember the ads and commercials more than the game itself.
ОтветитьI believe there's a star tropic cameo in f-zero , there's a Pilot named Zoda
ОтветитьI absolutely loved this game when I was a kid. Totally underrated.
