How many grocery chains are in the US and where do they get most of their crops from?
There are 3,000 grocery chains in the US and they get most of their crops from California.


What does California lack, but what does it have in abundance that makes growing there possible?
California lacks water but they have great temperate climate for growing crops.


How does California compensate for what it lacks for growing crops?
They created tunnels and canals to control the water to the fields many miles away .


Why are the shapes of many crops planted in Kansas circular?
center pivot of irrigation systems that are used.


How and why have crop yields increased in recent years?
3 times because of fertilizer and irrigation systems


What is most farmland, in the central US, devoted to growing? What is made of corn in grocery stores?
80% of the farmland in the central US is corn. Most processed items in grocery stores.


How has the frequency of going out to eat changed in recent years? Impact?
People are adding more celebration foods to their daily diet.


How has American caloric intake changed in recent years? What impact has this had?
American calorie intake increased by 600 in recent years due to high quantities of food consumed daily.

Agricultural pilots fly 8 feet off the ground at 150 mph to apply pesticides.

Bugs develop resistances to the genetically modified crops.

Main way many plants are pollinated is by bees. Diseases within bees.

Problems with our food machine and can contribute by starting a garden in their yard.
