Wonderful to see an american couple wanting to make friends with the portuguese, integrate and stay. Curious about where they are based for it is absolutely stunning. 🤩
ОтветитьSmaller parcels can still feel huge, depending on location. You might be surrounded by someone else's land or public lands (not yours to maintain, just yours to enjoy), your smaller parcel may have wooded boundaries, etc. You can consider these factors in addition to just the size.
ОтветитьHeadlines for Likes ... So sad ..
ОтветитьI have lived in Portugal since 1998. Kids go to Portuguese schools and I work in a Portuguese environment. There are British people about, although it’s not really my thing. Their kids go to international schools and play with British/American kids and only the most privileged Portuguese families. Country living, is a good option, but it’s also isolating. Then you have the possibility of forest fires too, cold winters and damp. Many Portuguese people are leaving the bigger cities now and opting for the smaller villages, so with that comes land, but with an authentic community too. If you guys are here when your kids start school, if you don’t homeschool- definitely put them into a local school. They’ll be fluent after a week. Good luck with it all, and make Portuguese friends. 👋
ОтветитьWell, having electricians trespassing, cutting off trees makes sense as otherwise your house will burn to the ground the upcoming bush fire season. I’d guess that’s part of the contract, and therefore whining about it sounds like this stereotypical expat'ish "exceptionalism" attitude.
And kudos to the two Americans who truly understood what being a guest in a foreign country is about, to assimilate as good as possible, and participate in the wellbeing of the local community.
Move to America our what ever British ex colonies yall think it's better 😂😂
ОтветитьI would say one of the biggest negatives for me has been the lack of build quality and the mold/damp issues. I knew it was an issue, but it has been much worse than I anticipated. Difficult to find a house to buy where the management of this issue feels doable.
ОтветитьSome great advice from everyone there. One other thing you could try renting for a while before you commit. We had to do that due to covid and ended up in a very different location and property to the one we thought we wanted. I thought we would buy a place in the middle of nowhere, but it turns out being walking distance to a community with resources, yet in the countryside with neighbours is more important for us.
Ответитьhaha i saw this on the newbys channel!
ОтветитьWhy the post title "Don't Move To Portugal"? What truth did the residents tell you not to move to Portugal? It mislead the viewers who think (before watching) that bad things happen here, so keep away. After watching it I just saw good things from your hosts, so...
I'm Portuguese born and raised and I welcome everyone who come to my country to do good. You included.
They talk about "couples" but there didn't seem to be any?(unless of course the two jewish Americans were homosexuals....??)
ОтветитьWe have home schooled our children and it’s safer and happier for our kids. The best part is raising them with your own morals and values
ОтветитьElectric company cannot go into a property and cut a tree, at least without owner’s permission. In some case they can go the a official authority, I thing the court, to get the permission to cut a tree. Unfortunately, those company assume that can do what they want.
ОтветитьIt is always greener where you are NOT. Life happens no matter where you choose to live, the best you can choose for yourself is where life will be easiest or most peaceful but that is my goal...I guess is you life uncertainity vanlife , or if you like diffiulty a differen country with a differnt language not that would NOT be what I chose, Plus I am a firm believer that if you were not born in that country you should not be able to own property in that country ,,, youc an rent but not own . vanlife is defintly NOT easy ! YOu can NOT escape from yourself.
ОтветитьGreetings from the LooseNatural farm in Andalusia Spain where we currently live through a drought and we are creating a beautiful new life. MOVE! MOVE!
ОтветитьIt was great to see this video. The american couple.... they are a must!
I´m a portuguese man, who lives in lisboa and i own a piece of property, kinda similar to the ones you show. It´s near Castelo Branco, and i can relate to the issues you presented .
I´m over there half year, but thinking to move in all year long.
I wish you the very best, for sure you will pick the best decision ;)
Just some thoughts after seeing a US couple get uptight when their visa was rejected...
Its important to remember that unless you are a National, you are a guest in the country youre in. Its a privilege not a right.
I heard a disturbing comment from a Brit renovating his home in Italy 'it gets loud when tourists arrive' He IS a tourist!!. Hes not a national unless he becomes a passport saying so. We have to quit thinking we can colonise another country and expect government departments to bend to our demands.
Respect cultures and remember you are guests within the country you are living in.
Other than that, travel, enjoy what you see and experience and respect the journey.
Lastly, family comes first. If travel and moving gets in the way of that, its never worth it.
Try and deal with Italians! Although I am Italian I am starting to regret my decision to move here! Everything is extremely difficult to do!
ОтветитьNo volume
ОтветитьThe Newbys do a really great job showing the hard work that goes into enjoying a beautiful lifestyle in Portugal.
ОтветитьCheck out “The Indie Project” they live in Portugal and have a lot of land that burned this year. Their home is stone and they have some animals.
ОтветитьThe only problem of Portugal is if you have to live with the Portuguese salaries and taxes. If you have income from other countries you will be ok.
Ответитьone good thing is if you buy a place in the country with a few acres you can always have a guest house on the property, find someone who can live in it and help take care of the property living rent free instead of pay....if you sell produce you can always split the profits with them. That way when you do want to do a little bit of travel someone will always be there to take care of the place.
ОтветитьMy son just started prek4 so he is in school. His school is private so they have more breaks and a longer summer break. We plan on traveling over his week-long breaks around the US and during summer breaks we will travel abroad.
ОтветитьOf course.
ОтветитьLiving in a different country is not easy. For someone who likes to travel and be free buying a farm is not ideal. Noticed that John is still upset about the trees being cut down but maybe is the responsibility of the electric company to maintain their electric cables. Portugal is a great country but young people do not have a lot of opportunities. You have to think about that and about your little ones.
The retired couple are happy in Portugal. They have embraced the culture and trying to integrate themselves in the community. High fives to them.
Emma is scared of being attacked by chickens and the idea of getting eggs in the morning and use them is unthinkable…I don’t know but maybe moving to Portugal is not the ideal for this couple. 😊
Loved this! ❤
ОтветитьSounds like a perfect opportunity to house sit for the newbys while they travel. You can get a feel, for living in Portugal and they have sitters they trust.
ОтветитьHi Emma and Alex! How interesting, I just read in my german news paper (Süddeutsche Zeitung) that they start a series about dropouts. They will start with your story living in a camper van. I follow you already some time, so it will be interesting to read about you in a german paper.
ОтветитьI'm another one who inspired by the newbys few years to come I will be inviting you as well as them to shoot my video, So far I'm stuck here in South Africa preparing
Ответитьgreat vid. gotta get to Portugal sometime
ОтветитьIf you can make ebegging pay and avoid paying your dues anywhere you stay then you are good.
ОтветитьWoh such indisived people when you really want to do something just do it
ОтветитьI am favored, €50k every week! I can now give back to the locals in my community and also support God's work and the church. God bless America 🤗🤗🤗
ОтветитьYou seem a very narrow minded persons. Travel is about that, experiencing the unknown. Why are you leaving the UK exactly? Why don't you just stay in the UK. The lovely Newbies have got the right life attitude.
ОтветитьBefore taking on a project in any country ask yourself why people have abandoned the properties?
ОтветитьFor you guys the best is to go back to UK and hand over your kids to rtainbow taliban.....if this is how you measure quality of life then you got nothing to look any further....
ОтветитьMaybe consider buying in the South of France or Brittany!
There are many farm houses with land for sale at a fraction of the cost of something equivalent in the UK! Check it out! Plus, you‘ll be an easy drive away from the UK, if need be. Good luck with your search!
Yes it's a mental barrier, I threw my kid in school in Italy at 10 without a word of Italian, he was behind for a year but caught up quick... it's really easy if the kids start school young, they'll be dual lingual within a year.
Just let them go to local schools, you then become a member of the community, embrace the country you're in fergodsake... did you really think you could just live where you come from... in another country, there but NOT there just because it's cheaper? Love where you are.
Brits and Americans seem to be the main groups that compare their societies with Portugal... while it's a difficult thing to adjust to any society not your own, it's important to remember the Portuguese have their own way of doing things... fit in or get out!
ОтветитьThe schools there are great.
ОтветитьThe country needs young people, a new generation.
Ответитьthe baby is soo cute! you guys are now complete! happy for yah two...
ОтветитьTara and Emma could be sisters
ОтветитьI bought a village house in Central Portugal and then bought a plot of land separate. Best of both worlds and I don't have to worry about the legalities about the whole habitation licence thing!
ОтветитьAs far as education is concerned sending your child to a local nursery and school enables them to make friends and most importantly learn the language
