Final Fantasy 8 - The Impossible Follow Up To The Greatest Game Ever Made

I remember playing this in grade 8.and just played the remastered on switch took me 10 hrs per disc you could say . Only can image doing everything this in this game congrats to you. Long time watcher and subscriber first time commenter!😂

I tried to like FF8 but just never could. Triple Triad was fun (one of the better side games in FF games), way better than the random mess of the card game in FF9 (my favorite FF game). But besides that there wasn't much i liked about it.

I would add a couple other things to the list of gripes people had with this game, and even though I never really played this game, my brother owned it and I would watch him play it for hours upon hours for months while he worked his way through the game. A big complaint I heard from him and from other people who played this game was the magic draws, as opposed to magic points. Another annoying thing, while not as much of a problem as the other listed things, was the ungodly length of the summon animations that you could not skip. I remember time and again when my brother would summon Doom Train or Ifrit or Carbuncle, the summon cinematic would last anywhere from 1 to 3 minutes!

to this day everything fall short of ff8 for me. they had an epic parade scene!

I did not think the draw/junction mechanic was confusing. It’s literally explained point by point in the tutorial like you said lol. Idk how the tutorial could’ve been better for a ps1 game tbh

I've beat the game prolly 30 or so times, so far. I've never once used the magic. Nope, never once. It feels to valuable.

Triple Triad is Amazing & E Z as hell... junctioning is ok, but not as bad as it may seem, when u get the hang of it, Draw magic is not really needed as much as ppl may make i think, & Squall is the freakin Man... I Love 8 more than n e other Final Fantasy, when i 1st played it on Day 1 i wuz enthrallled wit its beautiful world & compelling story... Absolutly Amazing

In my humble opinion many Final Fantasy games are great but none of them is nowhere near as great as Final Fantasy VII

I love this game and I love the junction system.

Now, I've just realized after all these years, there's a connection between the number 8 and the theme of time loop (adult Squall told young Edea to create Seed to make sure the same outcome everytime). The numeral "8" looks like the symbol of "infinity" loop after all.

Also (going to post this on the other videos that mention it) how many in other kingdom hearts players didn't attach Squall/Leon's home world being "Radiant Garden" to the "Garden"s of ff8

I love how the characters forgetting their past is somehow a weird plot hangup for some people... They should try playing this thing called EVERY JRPG EVER MADE. 🤣

I love this game so much. The more Jirard talks about it the more I’m just swathed in happiness.

The side quests are fantastic. Even ones like "I'm a courier and I dropped my mail. Can you get it for me?" end up revealing huge details that enhance the narrative.

You can challenge an actual corpse to triple triad on the moon after Renoa breaks loose. Theyre on the ground in the medbay.

I imagine Squall playing with their cards alone while theyre unconscious.

FF8 had 4 major flaws for me, consumable magic conflicted with stat junction system disincentivizing the use of magic. Nearly no treasure to hunt in the game, outside of magazines there was little to no lootable treasure in the world, a very limited equipment system that watered down the RPG elements further, level scaling content made your own power growth feel irrelevant, id even argue that leveling results in you getting weaker compared to the content unless you have advanced knowledge of how to abuse junctions. I still enjoy the game for what it is, but it has earned its spot on the lower tier of final fantasy games.

once you realize ffviii is super influenced by evangelion, it all really makes sense lol. I finished it for the first time earlier today and can confidently say it will be one of my favorites of all time, and honestly despite the junction and draw systems being terrible compared to materia, i much prefer 8 over 7

The youth of the characters is an integral part of the lore. Previous to their story, the world was fighting the Sorceress War which killed a large population of adults. Makes total sense for the average age to be significantly lower. A bit of a miss there 😂

Year late but Triple Triad is 2million% easier to plan and understand than FF9 card game.

Squall (along with a dying Ultimecia…) visits Edea in the past at the orphanage and encourages her and Cid to begin Seed and current events, hence why they lean on the present Squall to lead, because he has done already.

It feels like the third place entry if there was a contest for a Final Fantasy 7 sequel. The story is ok but so contrived sometimes its a slog. Still worth a playthrough, hey even 13 is lmao

Ff8 isnt the best but it's by far my favorite. I feel like that's true for most of us that have played this game.

I feel for ya man. My mom also has dementia. Fortunately for me, I was well into adulthood before it took hold. Definitely a hard thing for the whole family.
