Panasonic Lumix LX10 half the cost of a Sony RX100vii with blurry background

Will the ND filter fit on the Sony RX100-7 ?

Sensor isn't 1" - it's smaller, sized 13.2mm x 8.8mm (so diagonal is 15.8mm, nowhere near 25.4mm). Industry coined this smaller sensor a 1"-type sensor, but now Panasonic isn't even using original name and just calls it 1" sensor. Sony, on other hand, calls it 1.0-type sensor (thus, not mentioning inch at all).

I wish there was a version with a non-telescoping lens that you just keep turning on and off without that extra battery and physical drain

Nice alternative or option for low light! Wondering if you have ever used the Sony Hx99…sadly, not a one inch sensor (1/2.3) with a 720mm zoom in a pocket camera. Not something you would likely use though, but kinda cool.

I read some reviews saying that it has poor battery and focus. Did you experience this? Also comparing this with canon sx740 and sony hx99. Any thoughts on which one would be best for family pictures, etc?

I want one. but I have a gx8 and m43 is a little better than 1" and my Leica 15 is crazy sharp

The lighting in this video is a head scratcher to me.
It’s very harsh like daylight, but also looks incredibly artificial and makes it look like a green screen shoot.

I enjoyed this review Marcus, but the lack of a mike jack is a deal-killer for me. I mostly film in the kitchen -- food, food prep and upper torso conversation shots. Am I stuck with the Sony?

I have rx100vii. There were no firmware upgrade to it ever. If Sony would add 10bit to it via firmware upgrade, it will kill all similar cameras including pocket 3.

How do you do the audio separate?

wouldn't the ZV1 be a good cheap alternative to the RX100 VII?

How is it compared with sony zv 1 series?

I've got the Panasonic LX 15/10 too and have been happy with it, especially its low light performance.
Works well on the Zhiyun Crane M2.
It was released 7 years ago in 2016 but still holds up.
Panasonic should update it with 60fps and better AF and ergonomics.

In 2023 I buy the RX100 M3! For 479€, what a little Beast. Love it.

Another great video. I have wanted an LX10 but not affordable for me, but then i found a similar camera, Canon G7XMii for great price used, works perfectly. Great companion to my interchangeable lens bodies.

The ZV-1 is a much better buy than the LX10 for the same price

At that point given the zoom range, why not get the ZV-1? Audio in, good ecosystem, superior AF.

Why not just get a secondhand Sony RX100 Mk4 or Mk5, which had everything except the mic jack, including the built-in ND filters? On the RX Mk7, Sony changed the lens to a superzoom with more reach, but of course a smaller aperture. Or get a Sony HX99, if you want a cheaper superzoom, but still with 4k?

Would love to hear your thoughts on the best video camera with a large zoom with good stabilization and 4k. My vlogging setup only goes to 70mm (and can push that further with clear image zoom) but that’s still not close enough to capture some of the shows I film at theme parks and stuff. What’s your recommendation?

I own this camera, but the biggest issue I have is very inconsitent autofocus. So if you want to buy something small that gives you blurry background buy sony zv-1 or rx100

I love that you keep it real and have no problems going against the flow and advise people on sensible options. Do you think that there's even a need for a pocket camera if you already have a flagship smart phone (i.e. anything equivalent to or newer than Samsung S22 Ultra, iPhone 14+ Max, Sony Xperia 1V, etc., ...)?

I love Panasonic cameras. It would be silly to say Panasonics are underrated but i do think they are frequently overlooked by the GAS brigade. I've just been playing with a GX80/85 (bought it as a backup stills camera) and I love it. I normally shoot video with a GH5 but I couldn't resist buying the GM5 too! They're extremely well built, great economics and i think they look smart too, even that tiny red GM5. Unfortunately the LX10 doesn't have a view finder so that's a no for me, but it's definitely a worthy competitor to the RX line.

Why compare the long zoom version of the RX100 to the LX10? The fair comparison should be with the RX100 3-5 series with the same length zoom but with a 1.8 lens. With careful shopping you can get a used 3 or 4 version around the same price. The RX100 3-5 also has a significantly sharper lens compared to the LX10 and are all around much better cameras.
