I love SG's. I've owned a '92 Standard for over 30 yrs now & I got a '61R from the Custom Shop in 2011. Weirdly enough, I much prefer the Standard but I do think the '61R looks better. They might not be as pretty as any of my LP's but they're just straight-out rock beasts.
ОтветитьSGs are neck heavy as it is, a maple neck will make that worse...and make the guitar heavier overall. Pass
ОтветитьThe Gibson SG Tribute might be the best bang for the buck option, I used to own one. If you like chunkier necks and don’t mind the lack of neck binding it’s definitely the guitar for you. The Standard’s neck is narrower and somewhere in the middle of a 61’ and the Tribute neck~wise.
ОтветитьBtw i count in dollars but im from sweden...
ОтветитьI already have a red 61 SG and i just wanted a bigger pickguard black SG. The Gibson standard ebony was almost 2000 dollars and i didnt have the money for that i looked at the Epiphone SG standard ebony and choosed that..in the beginning it was ment that i saved up maby 200 and my father gave me a couple od 100s to cover up the rest but at the end he payed it all, he gave me the guitar. The price was 529 instead of the Gibson for 2000. Its a great SG even better than my 61 epiphone. It needed a set up, a fretlevel and I changed the bridge pickup to hotter pickup, maby gonna replace the tuners to grovers(like the gibson version) in the near future. Didnt like the kluson type tuners too much. After the set up it was really nice to play. I two now i can choose to play either a small pickuard SG or a big pickguard SG...just like Angus Young.. although he has a lot more SGs and all Gibsons.
ОтветитьImages of the guitars would have helped so much 👍🏻
ОтветитьWhat is this where are the guitars wtf
ОтветитьAll talking, no sounds……..
ОтветитьI always loved the SG classic. P90s
ОтветитьI bought a brand new SG Custom in 1969. It was nothing like I had expected it to be. The batwinged horror was just crap with a lousy neck and the biggest neck heel I'd ever seen. I traded it even for a 1961 Les Paul Custom (SG) a year later, which I owned for 35 years, only finally selling it in 2005.
I bought a 2022 Epiphone SG Custom and so far I have replaced the pickups and coil switching with Seymour Duncans, added a custom W/B/W pickguard, a Deusenberg vibrato, gold locking Kluson tuners, a Stringbutler, and had it Pleked. All up, I'm in it for about $1,400-$1,500.
It comes the closest to feeling like my 1961 LP SG as any other guitar I've ever played. At 73, I could care less about resale value. I think that resale value is becoming the single biggest difference between US and many Foreign built guitars, that and their nitro finishes.
I have a few gibson SGs. A key point with the '61 is that the head stock is not as wide. It's the old school thinner one. This makes the 61 sit very nice on the strap. I don't like the '61 pickups - too hot for me. The '61 is for sure the one to get, IMO.
ОтветитьFor me top 3 Gibson SGs are: 1Junior, 2 Specials P90 year 2019+. Why? They have heavy versions, around 3 kg -> NO NECK DIVE! Quite resonant and beautifully playing guitars, from clean to djent tones. For Specials two super red and blue metallic colors. Just perfect guitars. #3 would go for any Gibson SG Standard without neck dive, difficult but possible to find. As a bonus, kinda #4 i would choose Epiphone, can be either Special P90 very similar to Gibson or Muse series. Quite cool guitars for money and/or SG experience.
ОтветитьI recently bought an Epiphone SG special.....the cheap imported model with humbuckers and am quite disappointed in the neck. I thought it would be much slimmer. Is it possible to swap out the neck for a slimmer one. Just curious but maybe it would just be a waste of money. I basically wanted to add an SG style guitar to my collection. I am actually still working on the set up as the action is higher than I would like. Not having much luck there though. Guess I should have bought a pricier model.
ОтветитьLove the channel, but, I wish that you flashed on the screen images of the comparisons and your picks for those of us new to the options. Sounds like full reviews are elsewhere? Yet too many words without visual references in this review. I need to see the guitars you’re talking about… this isn’t a podcast it’s a video . Otherwise thanks.
ОтветитьI would really like the SG Tribute if it had a slim taper neck. Love the maple neck--even cooler would be a maple fretboard w/dots and natural maple headstock face....with a Flying V shaped headstock. Enuff dreaming LoL 😆👍Great video
ОтветитьY'all had this big production around your last giveaway. Why not have the same for the Gold Top??? Not even an announcement? Who won it? C'mon guys!
ОтветитьI'm lusting over an Epiphone cross inlay Tony Iommi and a Blueberry Fade SG Modern
ОтветитьNice work, lads.
ОтветитьI'm planning on a Tribute or Epiphone Worn with P90's, depending on a few things; mostly money. The Tribute tends to have a thicker neck, which I love. I just fixed up and gave away my old Epiphone SG and can't wait for a new one.
Great video, as always. Keep it up, John and Zach.
I love your vids but pics of each guitar when describing would have been helpful in understanding the differences of the guitars.
ОтветитьWhat about the bonamassa 63 sg 3 pickup are you CRAZY how could you miss this
ОтветитьGood summary. Thank you
ОтветитьFirst off I would never ever buy a guitar made in China and support them. Never. FC.
ОтветитьI'm going to pick up a Gibson 61 with the stop bar. Love 'em.
ОтветитьI don’t have any Epi SG’s, but I have three Gibsons: 2010 GC exclusive SG Standard, 2020 ‘61 Standard and a recent Iommi Special. The Iommi’s neck is BIG, it’s just a touch bigger than my R8 Les Paul and it’s super resonant. The nice thing is that between Epi and Gibson, there’s an SG for everyone’s budget.
ОтветитьDemo Shop. $1699 for Gibson SG Standard 61 Maestro Vibrola three months ago. Biggest issue with the guitar was the wood didn’t take the stain as dark as was expected and there were light streaks on the front, back, and neck. It has a different look—that’s why I picked that one. Also tightened the screws on the vibrola to stop a lot of annoying rattle, and remember it’s there for looks not what it adds to tuning stability. Great guitar.
ОтветитьEpiphones are good platforms for modding. So if you want an SG in your collection and you don't insist on having a Gibson get the Epiphone Standard 60s. Set it up properly and over time you can change the pickups and the hardware by something else. I replaced the Probuckers with Gibson Burstbuckers 2 & 3 that I had lying around and it's a massive improvement! Tailpiece and bridge come from Faber, Germany. They offer all parts with metric mesurements which is required for guitars built overseas. Thank you for ths helpful video 🙂
ОтветитьGreat video. Agree exactly with everything you said.
ОтветитьSo, you wouldn't go with the Zzsounds SG61 Pelham Blue Exclusive with the Epiphone Probuckers? It's a really nice guitar. $620 With the case through Zzounds limited run?
ОтветитьWho won the Les Paul Deluxe?
ОтветитьSome pictures om said guitar during talk sould be nice. Great show.
ОтветитьWho won the Gold top Les Paul you just gave away?
ОтветитьAn idea for you guys if you have not done it already. You could do a breakdown of the best SG to get if you are an Angus Young fan. Epiphone model for the budget people and a gibson that is closest to Angus style.
ОтветитьThis is a great video for guys like me that just love the technical side of bass and guitar. You guys should do a Wylde Audio demo, just because Wylde audio has a unique neck shape. I think it is called the Zakk C.
ОтветитьTributes Suck
ОтветитьBEST GUITARS EVER MADE....
except for the fuggin neckdive ffs
I always wanted someone to explain the differences.
I see Gibson SG for sale from $800 to $3000
I agree with the sg special praise. Loved the guitar and the pickups so much I also had to have the LP special.
ОтветитьGood job on this !!
ОтветитьJust do not like the look or feel of the vibrolas on SGs. As far as the best SGs....I like the Gibson SG Supreme. Good Pickups. Ebony Fingerboard. Diamond inlays. Custom shop Diamond headstock logo.
ОтветитьThis is so helpful.
ОтветитьHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
