I have a vintage Yamaha AX-870 that sounds amazing. It has nearly similar specs as this Sony.
These are no live stores here anymore so I can't hear the Sony.
How does the sound compare to the Yamaha? The main difference is the weight, the Yamaha is double the weight, but both are Class AB.

BTW, This amp is not a class D that use output IC that will be obsolete in 2 years, it use a real discrete class AB final output stage. Just in case someone would want to know.

I love this focus on the bottom end of gear. I have an AppleTV and wonder what the cheapest, best solution for lossless audio out and maybe Dolby Atmos. I hear separates are better than HomePods but having said that they don’t suggest some separates to do this.

Andrew. I finally found a shop to work on my 80's CV speakers. However, the tech replaced the 8 ohm woofers with 4 ohm (without asking me first!). I have this Sony but so far haven't used the 4 ohm. Will this receiver actually be able to handle them? I know it is advised against and will void the Sony warranty. Thank you. Love your comments on gear.

Sounds good with cd or fm. However, lacking in bass. Anything you suggest to get a boost? A loudness button could have made a difference.

I have a quick question.
I have a powerful Pioneer receiver that is not Bluetooth, and the Sony STRDH 190 is.
What if I wanted to use only the bluetooth function by using its out put into my Pioneer tape input and stream audio from my tablet.
Is that possible, and would I compromise sound quality from my Pioneer ?

It is just like TVs just buy what looks good to you and with receivers what sounds good to you. Your eyes and ears are all dependent on you and at 62, it won't matter that much to me.

Nice to see you have a Fluance Reference TT piped through your DH190 (230.00$ CDN) and that you're using a Ortophon Blue cartridge. I have mine piped through an old pair of Sony SS-957 speakers I picked up privately. Nice punchy sound.

Does not have the clarity, tones are overlapped and present as if you listened to a single drive speaker with no separation of tones. Do your ears a favor and get the Pioneer vsx-534 or higher models (I tune to Pioneer for their tone over the Marantz, Denon, Oikyo, Kenwood, Sansui, Yamaha, Sony etc for equipment under 1000). You get what you pay for! Definitely not a hi-fi equipment. Sony STRDH190 is just an amp, that's about it.

Can anyone suggest a cheap 2 channel receiver that has pre amp output? Want two build a monster 2 channel set up. 100 watts per channel just is not going to do it.

Sony must have probably watched this video so that's why they increased the price three times of Original. Which means their mark up is above 200 Percent.

The true wattage is only about 15 watts per channel, powered sub woofers definitely will doctor it up so you can get something more than 15 watts out of it.

I have an STR DH190 and I connected a pair of Tannoy DC-6 by 8ohms (10.5ohms measured with multimeter) to the A speakers and a pair of Bose 2.1 acoustimass also at 8ohms to the B speakers and select 6ohms on the receiver settings. Do you think the resulted 4.5ohms/speaker( instead of a minimum 6 ohms/speaker) will damage the amp? Thanks🙋

Ended up getting the whole set. The Sony receiver, bookshelf speakers and subwoofer. The sub really adds the needed low end that the speakers don't provide, plus you can hook two extra speakers up to the subwoofer because it is powered. Got everything on a Best buy Black Friday deal for around $250.
Sounds really good for lower end equipment. Eventually want to get a set of vintage speakers hooked up to it and hook the bookshelf speakers up to the 2 outputs on the sub.

Rather have a small tube amp for around the same price. Smaller footprint for a computer desk which is where Id be putting something like this.

When unit is playing and you connect the front headphone jack does it mute the speakers? This unit doesnt have a dedicated sub out. In the past I have used the headphone out to power a sub.

I can see why the price for this is so low. Not many people want to buy a receiver just for stereo these days. We want home theater receivers that can provide surround sound, ideally Dolby Atmos. This is a niche product, and the price reflects that.

I use this in our personal gym room with the B&W 302 speakers.
Perfect sound. Most important for a gym is that everyone can easily connect their device by bluetooth and the Sony does that!

Maybe I missed something, but. Can this receiver drive a 4ohm load? As in two pairs of 8ohm speakers (simultaneously) or one pair of 4ohm. You didn't say anything about FM tuner capabilities unless I missed that too. Just curious.

Such an awesome time to be an eletronics nerd. The market is flooded with so much legacy audio gear. I just picked up a Teac compact amplifier at Goodwill for $15 that has more features than this new receiver minus the bluetooth.
