I think this video is pretty misleading. make a basic box but you need a table saw and lots of technique. I'm sure there is a better easy way to make a box than this.

Sorry. do we make our own measurements? You seem to indicate measurements were somewhere on the page, but I have yet to find them. I'm a newbie, so sorry if I got this wrong. Thanks for the video. I'm just starting and have limited tools. Wanted to start something and see if I would continue, before I spent hard earned on more equipment. Thanks again.

Maybe it's just me but it seems like a race to get things done in a shop using tools such as a table saw is asking for trouble. Losing concentration for just one instant could be catastrophic.

So let me get this straight: I`m starting in woodworking, my first project is a simple wood box. I buy my lumber, and take it too my $5000.00 wood shop (that I don`t have), and start cutting it up with tools I don`t know how to use. Especially if I am going to do a basic Rabbit Cut (whatever that is), instead of Doo-Doo Cut, and then use thirty clamps of different sized and functions to press everything together. Yep. Simple. Excellent for novice.

Hello Steve! Thanks for the amazing video as usual. I have a question regarding the table saw for beginners, since I'm not from the US and there's no Ridgid distributor in my country. Do you think a Dewalt DWE7485 will be enough for "fairly" precise woodworking? I hope to start making some furniture in the future once I'm more experienced with the tools and I'm wondering if that model is good enough for doing precise and repeatable cuts to build cabinets etc.

The bow in the top could be solved by flipping one side over. The variance in Blake angle will be cancelled out. No bow

It's great you did this with basic tools. Most tutorials out there are using 7 high end machines in a 20K workshop for the same purpose.

Please take a moment at the start of your "basic woodworking" videos to go over some safety tips that might help your audience keep all their fingers. Such as the gripper your using.

It would not surprise me if this video inspired some to go out to their garage and fire up the table saw that has been rusting for 10 years to try to make their own box.

a little box trick some may like: make your box, glue and screw all the joints, and glue on the lid too. set the table saw if you have one for, say, 1 1/2". this is a place your screws do not come to from the top or get put in from the side. saw the 4 sides. now you have a box with a perfectly fitting inset lid. even a hand saw can make one, and you could use nails, but i like sheetrock screws.

All the people complaining about expensive tools apparently don't know you can get them used. I bought a complete in working order craftsman 113.298720 contractor table saw for $100. All it really needed was cleaning the table top rust and a new blade.

I just went through and love the “Equip your woodworking shop for less than $1000” document referred to in the comments.

Are there any advantages of Dado Blades versus a router table combo other than lower initial cost and less storage space? I have never used either Dado Blades or a router table.
I am also curious how often people still use their Dado blades once they own both?

For background, I am a woodworking newbie. I have a table saw but not a router.
