One of the major attributes of most ancient Yoruba towns in the South West of Nigeria is their ability to protect their territory against external aggression.

As part of ways to keep the memories of their sacrifices, palaces of Yoruba traditional rulers are adorned with statue of warriors.

Apart from their roles as custodians of Yoruba culture and tradition, many Yoruba traditional rulers were warriors.

The founder of Ilobu town, headquarters of Irepodun local government in Osun State, Laarosin fought gallantly during the Fulani invasion of Yorubaland and conquered.

The Erinle river, popularly known as Ojutu is one of the defence mechanisms of ilobu, helping the town to defeat enemies.
