For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23)
When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. (Mark 2:17)
For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. (2 Corinthians 7:10)
I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. (Luke 13:5)

Next time you’re at a port get some spray on dry lubricant from were you got your oil and if you ever have to feed the sails in again just spray on the bit that slides through the groove that holds the sail and you won’t get it snagged.

What is your time frame to sail south this year? I didn't finish what I was trying to say earlier, I got interrupted. I live in Portland and am looking for other sailors to sail with south to Mexico. My plan is sometime in September. Thanks for your reply earlier! Dean

Disclaimer: You didn't ask but here is my opinion. First, it looks like those sails have some life left in them, and it may be more life than a replacement used sail would have. Yes, they could use some TLC along the edges, corners and covers. But at least you would know what you are spending your money on before it's too late. If you do get replacements, remember that flexyfurlers use a bigger size luff tape, and most sails will have #6 or worse #5 which you can pretty much count on pulling out when it's honking. In a way, U are lucky to have those furlers, bc you don't need a bosun chair, it is just as easy to pull the whole thang down the stay and feed a new halyard with it laying on the sidewalk.
Those furler halyards are a throwback to prehistoric times when we had to use cable, and you really needed at least a Nicopress tool, except any CDI furler halyard really needs a machine swage. These days all you need is some 4 or maybe 5mm dyneema, plus that version wont have to be made in two pieces, it can be one continuous line.
Hint: Lube your luff tapes with some cold water surfboard wax, or whatever wax you got.
If I were making sails for this boat, I would stress the advantages of not only 86-ing a boom (if there were one), but why not raise the clew of the main while you're at it so it rolls up more evenly, and eliminates the need for that snatch block hanging in midair just to hold the clew down.
It's Not really a question of whether the furling is inside the mast or not, before Ted invented the in-mast furlers builders and designers had been using them externally for decades. One is simply not better than the other.
Your Lancer is a Motorsailer, and the sails have a different job description. While they do provide some drive, it's not going to be very satisfying just sailing everywhere. All the things that make a sail drive a boat through the water on a conventional sailboat are kind of working against you in this case. Like Max square footage. Like Fullness. Personally, I would want my Lancer 38 mainsail Board Flat, and it would be at its best in a blow. THEN it would be pushing her forward, but really the best thing is that sail (perhaps 60% rolled up) would be making the ride a gagillion times more comfortable. Any fullness built into the main will mean you cannot go anywhere near as close to weather as this vessel should (motorsailing), with the super-wonderful steadying mainsail set.
The jib Needs to be a certain shape outline (profile), just to accommodate the somewhat "gimmicky" (translation: unnecessary) self-tacking traveller. It makes it so you cannot have a decently high, even-furling clew. With the jib rolled up halfway, the sheet lead to that traveller would suck, as the top half of the jib would be flagging.
That's all.
Personally, I think your rigger is many times more qualified to make recommendations than any of us in the cheapseats.
Thank you, Aubrey.

That external main furler makes depowering a little odd. Hence why in mast. So mast bend depowers. I guess that depends whether the mast bends at all. Which is a minimal consern with no boom style. It's definitely a cruising style rig. "No biggy." Audrey your such a classy piece of ass.
