30 Do's and Don'ts for the first day of your cruise

Just finished my first cruise experience on Spectrum of the Seas. Was great!

#1 DONT - fly in same day as cruise… I arrived 4days ahead to also visit family in FL and the group chat created by the trip agent/director had a woman frantically trying to catch a flight the night before. There was a BIG storm and allll flights on the east coast were cancelled that night. She couldn’t even fly in early the next morning in time.

I recommend you play the commentary at 0.75 speed

I love you information and your passion you have for Royal. I have learned a lot from watching your content. I know that this is video is a year old, However, we should never give a porter $1. or $2. They work hard picking up our heavy luggage in the hot or cold weather. We should give at least $5. or more per suit case. That is what I gave a year or two years ago.

you must be the first dude that got a free phone stucked between the legs at birth automaticly. what happened to the cruise providing working tablet or tv screen with all attractions and reservations to be able to be made and done at your leasure in each cabim instead for paying their WIFI at thifing fee and permitting them to be in your private
phone forever like a nuisance.

Why are you encouraging people to waste food and overindulge in eating? Just got off a cruise and absolutely disgusted by all the super-sized people piling up their plates sky high with the most unhealthy choices they can find! The cruise provides an amazing selection of fruits and vegetables, but most times see people with the hot dog + fries options. Can you imagine how the cruise workers feel when they see such self entitled behaviour? Just think of the standard of living they have in their home countries. Cruising is about the experience and learning from the different ports…. Not about contributing to global warming by waste and unhealthy behaviour

In discussing making reservations on the first day, can you make them in advance days or weeks prior to the cruise?

One thing you need to mention is have an early night as after all those “must do’s” you are going to be exhausted. I know I’m just from watching this.

I agree about the embarkation drink, but unless you dont care about saving money or you had a stressful trip getting on board and you need one right away to relax, wait a couple hours to have the first one to avoid state and region taxes on alcohol. Knowing these policies would be helpful in international ports of call, but be aware DRINK BILLS SHOULD BE CHEAPER ON INTERNATIONAL WATERS DUE TO LESS TAXING. Don't necessarily refrain completely from a first day embarkation drink but try to wait until you are on the sea. The only possible exceptions to keep in mind for this advice is pre-registered drink packages or if you have a specialized waiver from this problem written in your booking contract with your cruise company. In my experience though, this is golden advice that I wish I knew.

I never unpack my luggage anywhere I go for any reason unless its dress clothes. I pack lightly and live out of my suitcase for many many reasons - safety and security, convenience, speed in case of emergency, costs less on flights, less chqnce to leave something behind, less to lose if it is lost or stolen - much preferred for me.

What do you guys do about thieves? My hubby had 6 new tshirts stolen from his luggage 😢

When eating at complimentary resturents, can we go for a second or third round of food ( or more ) and does it affect the booking ( do i have to go back to the line to refill my plate? )

Plastic water bottles no longer allowed; too easy to sneak alcohol aboard is the reason given. Personal, empty reusable plastic bottles permitted.

Point of contention. It's Pike Place Market, not Pike's Place Market. The market is on Pike Street and, as a lifelong Seattle area resident, it hurts my ears to hear Pike's Place. 😀

I booked the ultimate dinning package for my family cruise in October so we’re not planning to go to the MDR for dinner. But we’d like to enjoy it for breakfast each morning! Should we make reservations for breakfast?

For the escape rooms will they still have reservations open when you get on the ship? I checked the app and website and they're all sold out. I just want to make sure if it's a possibility or not.

Even if you have the barcoded boarding pass info on your cell, keep a printout handy just in case.

All these videos are full of information and very nice for people going on a cruise. For those of us considering a cruise, these videos turned me off from them. Entirely too many things to do and don’t do, extra fees, packages, etc. Sounds anything but relaxing to me. No thanks.

I don't recommend going on these massive "cattle boats" to begin with. When you stuff 3-4 thousand people in that small space so many things can go wrong....and do. In general, the smaller the ship the better chance for great service and experience. That goes for European cruises as well. And if you can afford it....go on a private yacht cruise even if it's only for 3-4 days. You will think you have gone to heaven. Leave the cattle boats to the cattle.

I was planning to see the Tampa Aquarium on embarkation, however was unable to drop off luggage as planned because the ship got in late which meant ALL the porters were like 2 hours late, and there was no place to check luggage at the aquarium, you will not be able to keep your carry on wine with you if you plan to keep your backpack with you and you can't leave it in your checked luggage, so you have to check with your planned AM excursion to see if carrying wine in your backpack is cool. It was not at the Aquarium. Also, these venues open LATE, like 10 AM. Other than that it is a good idea to do something on the AM of embarkation day, just be discerning about what you plan to do that morning.

Wow, queuing to embark, telling you what drinks you can bring on, having to tip for your luggage, having it turn up at some unknown later time, things in the cabin not working, buffet being crowded, no iron or hot water jug, wow staying at home has never seemed so good!

What about smoking cigars? Are there any outdoor areas available? As a former cigarette smoker, I can’t stand cigarette smoke. So, a cramped enclosed smoking area would not work
