Im 53 now. My dad and i watched these shows. I always wondered how he could leave his daughter behind only to adopt a bear and many animals.
I would imagine his daughter would be outraged seeing him now.

I was 5 years old when this came out. I remember waiting in line at the movie theater with my sister and both my parents to get in. It was my first movie at a theater. Time has changed so much since then.

Well I remember this movie Very well! I came about long before this came out! Always wanted to live somewhat like this in Alaska, but I could never go! Yep born in the wrong time I guess! I wish I was born in the late 40s! Alaska would have been my home!

I'm feeling a bit lost right now. I just started watching the 2-season series of The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams (for the first time ever) that I bought on DVD. And many of the same things in this movie also happened on the series. It even has the same indian guy. But some of the things look different. Such as the cabin Grizzly Adams lives in. They really filmed the entire story again when they made the series? 🤔

The whole backstory of him deserting his daughter to go play with a bear in the woods kind of ruins it for me. I’m about to be 53 and grew up with Grizzly Adams. Always fondly remembered him and the show. One of my favorites. But I don’t think I was ever really aware of the reason he was out there in the first place. It’s believable someone would take off under those circumstances…but still it’s pretty scummy to not face things and be as much an influence for good in your daughters life. And they could have come up with a thousand other plot lines…even keep the same one but not have him have a young daughter he deserts for life. It’s just weird and shitty.

Speaking as a 35 year old who has spent his life dreaming of living in the woods (I’ve genuinely got no doubt one day I will take plunge), and as a father to a little girl who I love more than anything in this universe, given the choice I would still rather prison for a crime I didn’t commit than never see my daughter again. I find it hard to believe he never made contact

I had neighbor back in the 70s who looked just like Grizzly Adams. He used to hang out in his garage and he would be building muzzle loader rifles and pistols out of those kits they ised to sell in the sporting goods department. I got the courage to go up to his garage and he showed me all his guns, animal pelts and heads on the walls. This guy was as close to the real Grizzly Adams as it gets for living in San Diego CA/National City area. He was as interesting as this movie was.

I loved Grizzly Adams when I was a young kid. He & his shows fascinated me because I, too, loved/love wildlife & being out in nature.
I remember watching it from our living room with my parents, especially with my dad, who was also a big-time outdoorsman & camper type of person.
We even made our own little permanent long-term camping site in our woods where we explored the plants, rocks, and creek and ate lots of wild, safe, edible fruit like black raspberries, etc.
Watching this movie reminds me of sitting with my daddy watching all kinds of nature shows that we could find on TV.

I have no spouse, no kids, no relationships. I live solely with my giant four-legged friend, so I can relate to this movie's message tightly. He's old and I've been worrying about losing the only soul I got so bad nowadays. Life may be simple yet so uneasy. Luke out.
