Hisense U8K is PATHETIC the way it simply DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY with an Onkyo A/V Receiver called the TX-NR5009. What is even worse is the way the U8K from Hisense does NOT work properly playing USB movies. It lets you watch a movie the "First" time you watch from the USB card, but NOT after that. If you turn off the TV set, and then come back thinking you will get to enjoy the program you were watching, you will be SAD when you see the TV set no longer allows you to watch the movie! If you have other movies you have never watched, you can watch them. However, if you try to watch a movie you previously watched, you will see the TV set starts the movie, and then instantly turns the movie off FOR NO REASON. Caleb, it would be GREAT to hear an explanation for this! I wish I had never bought this worthless U8K. I will never buy anything from Best Buy again. Best Buy won't do an exchange or store credit.

What I really wanted to see is somehow the possible ways to make this damn thing to work. Got a Samsung 4k TV and a Marantz and no matter what I do, sound from apps won't go for the receiver.

Hell... i get issues using LGC2 OLED with my LG S75Q soundbar using ARC. Optical works just fine. But ARC works when it wants to. I THINK it could have to do with my Nintendo switch and or ps5. It seems after i turn off everything and turn it back on the ARC option wont work anymore, i then have to fully power cycle to get it back up and running. Its ridiculous

I have tried multiple times to get eARC to last longer than a few weeks. I finally gave up and moved back to optical. The volume level is lower, but it works every time.

Caleb keep up posting the problems with HDMI. So many people blame the AVR manufacturers for a problem that's just not theirs only.

OMG I never realized its been around this long and the bugs are still there. CEC quit working on my 900E after the last update. And of course the update logged me out of all the apps:( This used to be less of an issue but most apps now require 2 forms of ID to log back in which requires way more time to get you back logged in. I've gone through the settings and don't see the issue. Back to a table full of remotes:(

A few years ago, a friend had spent thousands on a Samsung frame display and Sonos amplifiers and speakers all through the house and had it installed 'professionally'. Of course the two would not communicate via eARC and would require the Sonos amplifier, which was mounted in a remote area to be power cycled each time they wanted to watch TV. I only determined this issue after a few hours with numerous tech support and changing cables etc. Perhaps a firmware update would have eventually fixed this issue, but I refuse to ever look at a Samsung or Sonos product ever again.

Any reason why my LG C3 won’t send bitstream to my Pioneer receiver? Once I switch to bitstream, the picture turns to static and I get a no signal message. PCM works fine.
The tv used to work fine with bitstream up to a few weeks ago.

HDMI ARC is the most useless and wasteful tech ever. It's taking up the most valuable HDMI port for no reason other than trying to piss consumers off. What's wrong with using optical cable, or using a HDMI 1.4 port for audio and leave the HDMI 2.1 port for PS5 and Xbox and other more valuable components? I don't mind donating 1 port to the audio if a TV comes with 5 or 6 of them, but modern TV only don't comes with that many and most only had ONE 2.1 port.

I thought I was going crazy. My "premium" Vizio m series sound bar works maybe 33% of the time. Turns off randomly, shoots the volume up on its own, etc. The Internet says "just power cycle, unplug everything, try again." Why do I have to do that on a product I spent $300 on in 2023?

Samsung smart tv and Samsung soundbar. It worked for an hour when first installed. Got it restarted using several different troubleshooting methods, but it is always gone the next time the system is powered up. At least now, it fails and defaults to optical, where I am just going to leave it. I did think it might be the other HDMI systems (Fire Cube, PC), but no, failed with nothing else connected.

Interesting rant. I have a 2015 Samsung 43" plasma TV which I like very much without an ARC port, just HDMI. You said ARC has been out since 2009? I've been following you because I want to upgrade not only my TV but also add a soundbar. I currently use a Denon surround base receiver in a 2.0 configuration, which has the necessary HDMI ports but again, no ARC. An anomaly is that sometimes when I change channels ALL sound goes away, and I have to select another channel, which re-incorporates sound, then go back to the channel I really want, and the sound works. For me to upgrade, I'll have to do both the TV with ARC/eARC, then some time down the road do the soundbar (or do both at the same time). I can't do just a soundbar now unless I use toslink, as you suggest. Technology is our friend.

I just went through a nightmare with a new Samsung Q60C65 and a new HW-Q60C Samsung sound bar. Hooked it all up with HDMI/eARC, and no recognition. Samsung dialed into the TV, ran all their diagnostics, and told me the soundbar eARC port was bad. The company I bought it from sent me a new soundbar for FREE, hooked it up and had the same issue. Samsung dialed in with a different tech, and he finally told me the eARC port was dead in the TV. They sent a guy from Mississippi to replace that board, and still no connection. Samsung then replaced the entire TV, telling me it was an issue with the TV itself. Received the replacement yesterday, and guess what? NO connection by HDMI/eARC. After the Samsung tech left, I monkeyed around and found that if I disconnected the TIVO from HDMI1, I could turn on the Qsymphony and Dolby ATMOS by eARC. I could stream Netflix and Amazon videos, and the sound was astonishing. When I plugged the TIVO back in so I could get my cable channels, the eARC connection disconnected and the sound bar could only be connected via digital optical. So much for this manufacturer's TECH SUPPORT. I bet the same thing could have been accomplished with the other TV. I'm assuming the TIVO I currently have doesn't support eARC. Who knows? I guess I'm just destined to use the soundbar and tv connected by digital optical only.

Consumer Electronics.......Suck. There will always be problems with connectivity. There should be a universal connector such as USB C that works universally but there isn't and never will be. Wireless systems are going to struggle with RF interference and bandwidth issues. Consumers will be getting more DRM problems from AV source providers...this will never end.....

Hello, Greetings from Chile. So I Bought a Samsung 800c Soundbar to replace my old home theater that lasted 12 years( and still working) I've try for 3 days to make hdmi arc to work with no luck and then I found a workaround.
I have 65 samsung tv, the cable receiver and a ps4 connect to the tv to hdmi.
I've unpplugged all the hdmi and just connect the tv and the soundbar to the hdmi arc and IT worked, then connect the ps4 and cable receiver to the hdmi ports and the hdmi arc continued working fine until poweroff the devices. So meanwhile Im going to continue to find out what hdmi (ps4 or cable) is interfering to luckily find the right solution

I had a problem with my AppleTV 4k and Roku Ultra 4k. I had them both connected to my Onkyo NR-5060 receiver and the AppleTV was fighting to control my Onkyo. The HDMI switching on the Onkyo did not want to work properly. The Fix was to Disconnect my Roku from the Onkyo and connect the Roku directly to the TV HDMI port. Everything works fine now. ARC takes care of routing the audio signals to the Onkyo so I still get Surround sound while using the Roku. The receiver HDMI switching works better now. It Not perfect but close. Sometimes devices need to be Rebooted before everything works good again. Just make sure you have all the software updates and Firmware updates applied to all your devices. I have CEC and ARC turned ON on all my devices and I am using HDMI 2.1 cables. My TV 4k Vizio “M” series TV from 2021 does NOT support eArc only ARC. My Onkyo supports ARC/eARC. It was very Frustrating getting All the updates, settings, and bugs worked out but Everything works pretty good now. But I think I only need HDMI 2.0 cables.

Some kind of standard sure would be great! I know I am not the only one to have a PC connected to my home theater with a OLED with a receiver running 120Hz, but I cannot get a direct answer on how to best setup my system. With DefTech BP9080Xs and Atmos enabled, I get feedback and popping (particularly when running browsers) and cant figure out where it is from. Is it my Nvidia RTX 4080? Denon X4400H? The way Im wired, or Windows 11, the Dolby Atmos app?! I sure cant figure it out and worse yet any of those manufactures I attempt to ask cant seem to help me.

USB C could, and probably should, replace HDMI. If the current version isn’t up to spec, the next version will be overkill. The cables are abundant and affordable and the more devices that use it, the better and cheaper it will get. How much easier would it be to route and plug in a USB C cable anyway?!

It's actually not always true that both devices MUST have HDMI CEC turned ON to function. I have a headphone amplifier that uses eARC that has handshaking issues with my TV if I've switched the TV to anything other than eARC (like optical or just TV speakers) after eARC was functioning. Sometimes turning CEC OFF with the headphone amplifier actually makes it work again with the TV. For eARC CEC has less to do with the audio signal and almost everything to do with your remote being able to control both devices and that's about it. Weird that a supposed "ARC guru" doesn't know this.

Optical is not a solution either if you actually have a system that uses more than 7.1 speakers either. Outlier case maybe, but simply saying "I'd just give up and use optical" is not always good advice. This channel reminds me of kids in an AV club at school. They know more than most of the other kids about how to hook things up and "make them work", but they are by no means experts at how the things are actually working. They just come off as experts to those that don't really know or understand the basics.

Had huge problems with ARC it almost drove me insane, then was advised to get a HDMI pro 3, up to 8K cable from a proffessional HIFI outlet, cost a bit of money but I bought one although I had a good one. Replaced it with the new, pulled all the plugs to power and did a reset with the new cable and now working like a charm for the last 4 weeks, before it would work only for a short time and then nothing. Almost thought I needed a new amp. as I had just bought a new TV. It saved me a lot of money.
