So ominous looking and beautiful at the same time. Still the best aviation design to date. The SR-71 reminds me of the aircraft designs on TV’s marionette show ‘THUNDERBIRDS’.
Edit : The SR-71 Blackbird and the F-35A Lightning II are my fave jet aircraft.

Why do they keep saying this is the fastest jet plane.. It is the fastest operational jet plane own by the USAF.
The A12 Oxcart ... which was only ever flown by the CIA, flew higher and faster.... not by much by it did.... this information is readily available.. get it right guys.

This guy speaking works for the CIA. The CIA is not as intelligent as it used to be.

I remember watching a 1990’s Time-Life documentary about the SR-71 and they were talking to a Cold War Russian fighter pilot who used to try to intercept the SR-71 in the 70’s and 80’s when it would fly near the Soviet Union. They could always track it with radar but everytime they got relatively close, it would hit the gas and out accelerate them. So they could not only never catch it but couldn’t target it with their missiles either. The remark he made that made me laugh was “I just couldn’t believe that a spoiled country, like the US, could create such an incredible machine”.
