Thailand Thai Drivers Licence Renewal is not a difficult thing to do, a Thai drivers licence needs to be renewed after 2 years if its your first licence in Thailand and 5 years a Thai renewal licence is required in Thailand. If your living in Thailand you should get a Thai drivers Licence This is only for renewal of a Thai licence not your own country licence, you require a International driving permit to drive in Thailand, this usually lasts for 1 year only. Driving in Thailand is dangerous and is 2nd in the World for road deaths, mainly motorbikes, many Thai's don't have a driving licence
Paperwork required, Residency Certificate, Medical Certificate copy of your details in your passport and a copy from your passport of your visa. Fill in a simple form at the Licence office, complete a few simple tests watch a short video get your new picture taken wait and then get your new licence, in all it took 3 1/2 hrs to complete the process.
The cost of living in Thailand is cheap in so just Budget the cost of getting a Thai driving Licence into the cost of living in Thailand.
Expect to pay up to 1350 baht in total, 200 baht for your medical certificate, (local clinic Doctor is the cheapest )500 baht for your Residency certificate (Immigration office )and 550 baht for your licence. I was told I needed a Medical certificate the last time I attended the driving licence renewal center then I was told at the Licence center it was not needed but for 200 baht its better than a wasted trip if they ask for one.
