If you haven’t listened to Taxi by Harry Chapin it’s another story. 30,000 pounds of bananas is a funny one. Dan Fogelberg’s Leader of the band is another father son song. I went to his concert many years ago and his dad was in the audience so he sang it to his dad. Many emotions. Thank you for sharing your experience finding these songs.
ОтветитьMy dad was that dad, but he never realized why his kids were so much closer to our mom than to him. He always blamed us for the fact that we weren't as close to him. You can't ignore your kids when they're growing up, then wonder why the relationship isn't that close when they're adults.
ОтветитьAli, 'it was all junk' LOL gotta love that
ОтветитьI recommend the song Diary by Bread
ОтветитьThis song was written by Harry's wife before his son grew up.
ОтветитьUgly kid Joe does a better version of cat's in the cradle I think though Harry Chapin is a legend I think ugly kid Joe did an excellent job Avery recording that song you should check it out
ОтветитьMy daughter is in her 30s, now... my son is in his 20s... and I can't tell you how quickly that happened.
Relish EVERY moment.
NEVER be "too busy".
It's gone, too quickly, and once it is, you can never get it back. Believe me. Don't let it slip by...
I wasn't too busy and it STILL went by too fast!
In addition to being a masterful story teller, Harry Chapin was the real deal humanitarian. He donated the bulk of his earnings and huge blocks of his time into feeding hungry people.
By all accounts the man was completely selfless and a shining example of a great human being.
Have you ever listened to or done a reaction to the live performance of Phil Collins In the Air Tonight? If not it is a must.
ОтветитьI saw Harry a few months before he died. It was at a 9k seat venue, and there were only 1k or so people there. He was doing a lot of work for world hunger and he invited everyone to buy a t-shirt and he would sign it, the money was going to his charity. I didn't wait around and I always regretted it. It was sort of a Cat in the cradle moment.
ОтветитьNow you are in my teenage years, I used to listen to all of his stuff, first on 8 track then cassette tapes, and now on CDs. I agree with you that his voice is nothing special and I don't think it matters, he is a storyteller. I like good voices as well, Neil Diamond comes to mind as he had incredible range, and his "Coming to America" was very special. Good video though.
ОтветитьDon't know who the chick is, but she needs to not be in your videos. She spoiled the song by telling you what it was about before you got to hear it. She could have just said that "it's a lyric song; the lyrics are important," but no, that wasn't good enough. She had to tell you it's about "not missing the moments" and calling it "parental."
Jeez, what a big mouth! Why didn't she just sing the whole thing for you? I mean, since she doesn't want you to find out anything for yourself.
Dump Mighty Mouth and do these videos on your own, dude. Do the two of you go to movies that she's seen already, so she can give away the ending?
Lady, shut up. I'm sure he can listen to the song and figure out what it's about without you helping him. Does it make you feel superior to explain everything to him?
Dude, don't worry about being annoying. You're not annoying. She is, however. And during this second pause, where you insist you're not being annoying, she still can't stop giving away the ending. You're not annoying, dude. But Miss-Give-Away-The-Ending-So-I-Can-Show-Off-How-Smart-I-Am is most definitely annoying.
Oh, Lord. I just got to the ending. If she's going to explain everything, the least she can do is get it right.
Cat's Cradle is not a nursery rhyme. It's a child's game that's played with a loop of string. Can be played alone or with someone else. Silver spoon is also not a nursery rhyme. "Being born with a silver spoon in one's mouth" means being born to affluent parents. The reason it's mentioned here is that this man is working hard, making the money to make sure his child has every advantage, but he forgot to give him personal time. As for the Man in the Moon, that is not a nursery rhyme either. It's just an idea, from many cultures, that certain visual cues in the disc of the full moon is a man's face. Kid's like to imagine there's a man in the moon.
No, none of these things are nursery rhymes.
Incidentally, this song, about missing out on one's child growing up was sadly prophetic for Harry Chapin. (And yes, it's pronounced CHAY-pin.) Harry Chapin died in July of 1981, when his son Josh was eight years old.
Maybe the most factual song as to the effects of learned behavior.
ОтветитьIf you were a kid in Northern Ireland in the 90s this song would haunt you in so Many ways. It was used in a series of advertisements that even had to be moved so not able to be aired before 9pm
They were truly haunting with this song in the background
You have to check out Harry’s song Taxi!
ОтветитьAnd it’s so true…my husband didn’t have much time for his sons…now our son doesn’t have time for us.
ОтветитьTerry Hicks - Seasons in the Sun
ОтветитьWHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND ?
ОтветитьAlways made me cry when I heard this as a child.. it's a great song. Thanks for putting this on for us and greetings to your lovely wife. It's way to close to reality, when you're children are little you work and pay bills then when they're grown and you have the time they're doing their own thing,,sadly this is life...
ОтветитьYes there was junk back then, but nobody remembers the junk.
MESSAGE!!
It is the quality music that is remembered and changes lives throughout generations. Anyone can make a quick hit for the moment and cash in and cash out. But if you want to leave a legacy and timeless music, you do not embrace producing junk. And that isn't just a lesson for making long remembered impactful music, it is relevant for anything you do in life and how you live it.
Harry Chapin is probably the most underrated lyrical, genius American music ever produced. He could hit you in the feelings like a damn H bomb.
ОтветитьAhhh, growing up in the 60s & 70s I COULD TELL we were living a VERY SPECIAL MUSICAL ERA❤
ОтветитьI'm the Dad in this song. Always working, trying to provide and thinking we'll catch up a bit later. A bit later never came and time flies past faster then you can imagine. My children never wanted to monopolize my time. They just wanted some quality time and attention from Dad who was always too busy.
Fast forward, I'm retired, my children are in their late 30's and early 40's. They live in different countries and states and we rarely see them but always say we'll get together soon.
It's not all doom and gloom. We have a great relationship now, keep in constant touch and enjoy each others undivided attention when we get together but nothing makes up for lost time.
Spend time with your children now for time goes by quickly. I never realized how fast until it was gone.
Im a woman
This is a song you don't hear much these days.
But, as a woman, I have tears right now.
Its a kid wanting his dad. Dad too busy, kid grows up, dad wants kid. Kid too busy.
.
Make the most of what time you have, while you have it. Before you know it, that time is gone. Can't get it back. ❤
Father and son
❤❤❤
Son and father.
Dude, I want to see you wipe a tear!! You seriously don't know this song?😢❤
ОтветитьPs. No doubt, ..gwen stephani.... ❤❤
ОтветитьSeveral versions of this song. Been covered a few times. All good!! You use simon & garfunkle, sounds of silence got covered by a heavy metal group!! Beautiful both versions
ОтветитьYou'll like these older examples because songwriters of those days were often story tellers, which is less common today.
ОтветитьAlthough I heard this by you and your visitor before, I decided to subscribe to you to see how far you go.
ОтветитьAlong the father songs, listen to George straight a father's love or james Blount's monsters, or kenny Chesney's there goes my life.
ОтветитьOK, I am not going to speak about Harry Chapin (great storyteller) but to your insight on parenthood you just referred to. Do become that parent that includes your children with everyday life by helping learn how to do things around the house like - cooking and understanding it is OK to make mistakes – that is how one learns and that it isn’t the end of the world. Let them be children and promote their opportunities to expand their imaginations. Become an integral part of their daily life, there is so much more to learning than what they get in a classroom/day care. Yes, they get to learn about creating relationships but there is so much more to learn. You two seem to be very intuitive and have just had one of those ‘A-ha’ moments when referring to a friend that lets their kids participate in making dinner. Who better to teach your children on how you want them to be not to mention continuing your growth as a parent, spouse, neighbor, a good human being. Awesome
ОтветитьSerbs thank you you got it right away!.!'it hits home for many of us that struggled to make a living anyway possible even if it’s sacrificed our time for our family which is of course catch 22!!!
ОтветитьThe chorus refers to nursery rhymes Americans typically read to our little ones, especially at bedtime, but this Dad never took the time to do.
ОтветитьLoved his music. Miss him.😊
ОтветитьIf do not watch Harry Chapin's "TAXI" you might as well fold this channel
ОтветитьSure bring tears to my eyes. They were entertainers Not just singers. They drew you in. Voice was good but not extraordinary. But the experience was so good
ОтветитьOnly reactor to pronounce his name correctly. kudos.
ОтветитьThis song is special, try to remember this song so those moments you need to catch
I used to text my kids with these lyrics, Dont cry just remember this, its now been passed to my grandchildren ,My son birthday was the other day l texted him to remind him. They all said thats a beautiful way to bond with your kids, He was killed when this son first came out.He is giving you a special message, dont ever forget what he is saying. Listen to her, she gets it.
7 kids over 20 years and barely missed a day. It was hard but worth every moment ❤
ОтветитьIf you're spending time with your kids you're doing the right thing. Time passes so fast. Enjoy parenthood. Its the greatest gift in the world.
ОтветитьTry "Teach Your Children" by CSNY, the lead intro and pedal steel player was Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead. He spent six months learning to play it. Great perfomance on the Deja Vu album.
ОтветитьHarry was like Gordon Lightfoot & Neil Young. It was the message, more than the 'amazing voice'. It was kinda folk rock music.
ОтветитьLive in the moment.
ОтветитьThis is why us old guys snobbishly talk about the crap kids listen to today. We listened to art. Music created by genius
ОтветитьI grew up in a small college town where the college would have concerts. I had the privilege of seeing Harry twice. Even though I was in to hard rock fan and drummer, I was a big fan of Harry and Gordon Lightfoot. Both were great story tellers who could paint a picture with their material. "Taxi" is another great Harry song to consider listening to.
ОтветитьWhile this is probably his most famous story/ sing. His catalog is soooo much deeper. Please search his other songs out. I would love to hear his take on today's landscape. His insight would be amazing.
ОтветитьI hope you didn't get the message your wife is sending you.
ОтветитьDon McLean, Bye bye American pie is a good one
ОтветитьMy life but NO complaints
