BENQ LITE ON DG-16D2S

Great Vid, but, help needed. I got a replacement drive, plugged it in the 360, popped in an audio cd, it works - mint. Next i swapped boards, i didnt fancy try to flash. Fired up the 360 and it wont play any disk. Assuming i have done the soldering right, what could be the problem. Any help greatly received.

hey i tried to replace the circuitboard but it ended up staying on the "opening/closing" choice when i turned on my xbox after i swapped the 2 circuitboards... anyone know the issue of how or if i can fix that?

Now does it matter on the firmware and hardware versions? i have the same model but mine has the 8 firmware version now all i am seeing out there is the drives with the 7 versions firmware. Can i take a drive with the 8 firmware version and swap mine out and place it into a drive that had the firmware verion 7?

Amazing! I just swapped circuit board from a read error Lite-on DG-16D2S drive to a working Lite-on DG-16D2S and my Xbox 360 read it perfect. I can now play games and watch movies. Thanks for this awesome upload.

could this fix my drive, because it just spins and dosent even read the disk. would getting a new drive fix this?

@omgwatmyname yes it would, as long as you swap circuit boards from your old drive to the new working one.. should work just fine if you followed the instructions from the video.

Great video. I do not have a soddering iron so I had a question for you. Can I removed the laser from the new drive and put it in the old drive? That way I do not have to purchase an iron or is that just making it more complicated?

@rtkiiiprod ok...Here is what i would do..FIRST.buy the soddering gun...The reason for that is .....it is easier to replace the circuit board then to replace the laser..REASON!! REAL INPORTANT..You will NEVER get the laser to line up right...TRUST ME ON THAT ! ALOT OF ADJUSTING>>! If you do change the laser ,you will be taking it apart thousands of times to get that adjustment right ...SAVE TIME AND THE HEAD ACE....Buy the sodiering gun..!

DON'T YOU THINK IT WILL BE EASIER TO CUT AND JOIN AND THEN INSULAT THE CABLE'S IN THE MIDLE ITS QUICKER AND NO SOLDERING?

@MrCHRISSHIELDS ...If you want to....But it is nicer and cleaner look if you use the soldering gun..No black electric tape look...The tape might be to much and take up room inside of the dvd drive and might get in the way...Do what you want to do buddy ,it is yours......

Hey dude i have a question, Number 1. did it work after you modded it im guessing Yes but just to be sure ;). And 2 is about the big flat cable connecting the laser to the cicuit board directly, on other vids of changing DVD Drives (but different models) say to remove the big flat cable from the laser end not the end from the motherboard end. Does it matter with this drive :) ?? thanks

@Sh1t0nTheVilla well....The big cable on the laser in this dvd it is easier to remove from the motherboard..BUT if you are going to change dvd players like putting a different make in there it might not work...Back to your question...if you can remove it from the motherboard easly go ahead...If not then the only way then is the laser...All dvd drives are different ...Good luck...Well yes and no ...after the modd i found out that the dvd drive ,that i bought was used and returned.

Why do you need to desolder those wires why cant you just put in the new drive shouldnt that work?

@SwavelyHD THE BIG THING IS THE KEYS! THAT MATCH YOUR XBOX360...YOUR KEYS ARE IN THE CURCUIT BOARD IN YOUR DVD DRIVE..IF YOU CAN GET THEM OUT AND PUT THEM IN YOUR NEW DVD DRIVE GOOD LUCK AND TELL ME HOW TO DO IT..I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW,,

You can also just replace the guts by unscrewing the 2 screws that hold the circuit board(you should disconnect the ribbons to prevent damage). under the board you will see 4 T screws(T-6 i think), remove them and the laser/rail system will lift out. replace with the new one and reassemble in reverse. prevents the possibility of burning your board.

=/ but the interesting is extract the key, that is SO easy, is better only replacement the laser, no need to desolder those wires or anything and works exactly same

Hey man i got a dvd drive that is broken and a different one that works but a different model....my original one is dg-16d2s and my new one is different...can i still swap the circuit board and not get banned or anything and will it work

@ranced yes you could.

@jacob54389 cut the wires, rewire it to the new drive but soldering is better. still works anyway, make sure the wires are well twisted and cover with tape.

yea so i tried this and whats really fn gay is that it when i got the xbox it wouldnt read any disks well i got a new disc drive did this same thing and it only reads dvds n cds...whats the dealo with this someone has to know damn it

ok i havee a 9 serise lite on its broke i cant find a new one anywhere but can i replace it with a 7 serise or even a benq by replacing the circit board old cpu into new drive

@TheCodkillcams It should be the same circit board...Buy the a used one to see if they have the same board..Sorry that is all i have for you....

is this the same board as the Phillips Lite-on Drive DG-16D2S?

i didnt know i had to keep the old drive is there any way to fix it just to play games i can care less about internet the old one got thrown away.

@L1QUIDZ ..ok did you see if the lazer is stuck all the way back to the circuit?That is the reason for the open tray ERROR...

i believe my laser is the problem, instead of soldering the board can i just take the whole laser and disk spindle mechanism out and put it in my new drive?

I have to tell how grateful I am for the internet and for this video. I tried to "tweak" the laser with those tiny screws. Worked for a week, then same open tray issue. Made sure I identified the correct model of drive, ordered through amazon, swapped the boards (being very careful and taking the soldering very slow!) Put everything back together and BAM! Works like a charms. Again THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!

I just wanted to say I tried this and it worked. I got the same model off ebay and swapped the controllers. The soldering was very easy, level 1 noob stuff. Thanks.

@MrDoom6969 does it matter which way you solder the two yellow and two white wires back on after swapping the board?

will this work with one lite on drive (DG-16D2S) and one benq drive (VAD6038) ? (due to the fact that they're both from philips and very much alike)
